the tune was trash on the lightning. all those mods and only 369rwhp? ive seen intake, tune only lightnings make that. a pullied, exhaust, intake tune lightning should be right at or above 400rwhp. you dont blow up a motor with only 369rwhp. either the tune was shit, or dumbass owner doesnt know how to maitain the truck. probably ran it low on oil
The tune wasnt the issue, and like I said, it's already ran off on "385 rwhp" Lightnings that put their numbers down on other dynos. Same tuner tuned another friend's Lightning recently, it made 386 rwhp with same mods and a 4 pound lower, although he had a magnaflow catback, not crappy flowmaster shit. It then made 412 rwhp with a 6lb lower, and long tubes.
Obviously Im mentioning another Lightning tuned by the same tuner on the same dyno with similar mods, although he had a higher flowing catback, he had a 4lb lower to start with, compared to the Lightning in this video's 6lb lower. It made more power, different truck, similarish mods, more power, but you claim the tune as the issue on the Lightning in the video.

They are nowhere near 8k for a Lightning long block anymore. He bought an MMR built shortblock for 3k, had the heads fixed for a few hundred, and went on his way.

He's got $45000 in his truck, I have just over $20000 (includes purchase prices) and his SRT-10 is 3-4 car lengths behind every time.... Anything can be built to out run anything else. It has nothing to do with Dodge, Ford or Chevy. Put 500rwhp to a b.s. 5.7 Hemi for 105k miles beating it to death and see what happens....

It's kind of hard to knock any of the trucks in this video... all of them have more balls than what most people have under the hood of their own truck. But obviously this is a reminder of the risk-and-reward thing, which I am sure the owner of the Lightning is fully aware of. But realistically, any one of those trucks could have had a failure, it just happened to be the Lightning that day.

Actually thats where you are wrong, boost is not boost, boost is just a measure of restriction. 6 PSI on the gauge from a turbo and blower are two totally different things.
You are correct. Boost is boost. However, 6lbs of manifold pressure on similar engines is different when it comes to power output to the flywheel from the turbo/supercharger. Since it takes roughly 1 fifth the engine power to turn a supercharger, your overall output to the flywheel will be down. I personally have a turbo on my 92 5 liter Mustang, and at 10lbs, I am over 100 horses over similar blower setups. The torque differential is even greater.
I"m sorry but to me what you just said actually stated that you don't know what your talking about OR your over stating your knowledge. First as you said boost is boost a turbo does not leach power this is well known however it also doesn't make boost at idle giving it a great deal more available torque. Which is why there is actually a diesel racing team going towards suprcharger the only problem is they are making too much boost and cracking blocks. For you 2 be 100hp Over? try again......
You see for you to have 100hp over an identically built mustang would mean...well that a supercharger COST horsepower because on the 4.6 with 12 lbs of boost your not getting at MOST 120hp and I am giving you a custom tune intake and cam to run the turbo 500hp is your MAX which is why people are running KB blowers.. My friend at 26PSI is making 600hp.. Not to be rude but you need to do more research
Let me try again, and this time when you reply, don't be so condescending: An S trim blower on my SAME 5 liter at 12 PSI, ONLY made 341 rear wheel horsepower and 377 rear wheel torque. The SAME engine with a 62mm turbo (no other changes) at 10 PSI made 444.6 rear wheel horses and 538 lb/ft of torque. I am talking about power output. When manifild pressure is the same, the difference is overall power output. And yes, ROOTS style superchargers make boost just off idle, where turbos lag.
He got 36 Hp for bolting on a Supercharger and not even running a standard 6psi...or 9 PSI which is high for a supercharger where that boost is active at idle but no...he got a whopping 12 P S I and 36 hp?

Dude, WTF are you talking about? Who is "he" you are refering to? I was talking about MY Mustang, MY supercharger and then the swap to a turbo. The S Trim made (read above so I don't have to retype everything for you), then when I bolted the turbo on with no other mods, the turbo made 103.6 more horsepower than the blower and the turbo was at a lower boost. Please pay attention...The turbo bested the blower in torque too by 161 lb/ft of torque. You do the math!

12lbs of boost on my friends cobra his license is Termin8tin in CA is running low side 500hp at 10lbs of boost and the KB 2.6L turned up is near 700 if your shop at 12lbs of boost ran anything under 400 they did it wrong. I'll explain what I am saying.
if Manifold pressure is manifold pressure all things equal the only advantage a turbo has is intake temperature (doubtful you can equalize that) ease of making more boost it's harder to turn up a supercharger than it is a blower. And HP lost in turning the supercharger. What your saying is that supercharger ate 103HP IF boost is boost? get me? If that's not the case then it's simple your timing injection fuel mixture and or boost gauges were way off.
again dont' misread me I like Turbo's but the fact remains why doesn't saleen use turbos? Why doesn't John Bloody force use a turbo? Or his super hot daughter? All roots blowers and I know why but it sounds like you have one bad pony i'd love to see a video walk around of it.
I am not refering to a roots blower. I am refering to an S-trim. I am also not saying you cannot make great power with a roots blower. You can! What I am saying is that a turbo makes more PEAK power. That is fact. The reason Saleen and just about anyone else use blowers (especially on the street) is expense and streetability. Roots blowers (as I said before) make great torque off idle. A turbo's boost comes on violently. I have one video of my Mustang posted.
If you read back at the beginning, I agreed with you. The only thing I stated was that off the top, a blower bleeds power from your engine (it does). A turbo is non-parasitic. A blower requires the crank to turn it. Those are facts. I've been doing this for 20 years my friend so if you think I'm the one that doesn't know what I'm talking about, you are DEAD WRONG. Why do you think I switched over to a turbo and spent another 5K to do it? Yes I do have dyno numbers.
Lightnings before 03 were notorious for engine knocking as well as easy of blowing the engine. Now I know some of you have some that have been reliable but I've seen many many 00-01 Lightnings with blown motors.

Sucks about the Motor....I had a ford diesel and blew the head gaskets out off a tune, CAI and 4" turbo back....sold it and now I got the SRT-10..almost went with the Lightning but no 4 door and the Harley Davidson SC is too slow, my bro's 06' 5.7L ram could hang with it...SRT is amazingly fast especially the auto tranny when it's rolling...you'll come back strong!
Thought the dakota would do better with the 125 shot. Impressive that the ram did a bit better than the ford.

Attn Dodge dbags, I own a 02 Lightning with a KB blower, bolt-ons and a decent tune. A friend of mine owns a 05 SRT-10 with bolt-ons and as violent a tune as possible. He's got $45000 in his truck, I have just over $20000 (includes purchase prices) and his SRT-10 is 3-4 car lengths behind every time.... Anything can be built to out run anything else. It has nothing to do with Dodge, Ford or Chevy. Put 500rwhp to a b.s. 5.7 Hemi for 105k miles beating it to death and see what happens....

It's kind of hard to knock any of the trucks in this video... all of them have more balls than what most people have under the hood of their own truck. But obviously this is a reminder of the risk-and-reward thing, which I am sure the owner of the Lightning is fully aware of. But realistically, any one of those trucks could have had a failure, it just happened to be the Lightning that day.

You are correct. Boost is boost. However, 6lbs of manifold pressure on similar engines is different when it comes to power output to the flywheel from the turbo/supercharger. Since it takes roughly 1 fifth the engine power to turn a supercharger, your overall output to the flywheel will be down. I personally have a turbo on my 92 5 liter Mustang, and at 10lbs, I am over 100 horses over similar blower setups. The torque differential is even greater.

First as you said boost is boost a turbo does not leach power this is well known however it also doesn't make boost at idle giving it a great deal more available torque. Which is why there is actually a diesel racing team going towards suprcharger the only problem is they are making too much boost and cracking blocks. For you 2 be 100hp Over? try again......

You see for you to have 100hp over an identically built mustang would mean...well that a supercharger COST horsepower because on the 4.6 with 12 lbs of boost your not getting at MOST 120hp and I am giving you a custom tune intake and cam to run the turbo 500hp is your MAX which is why people are running KB blowers.. My friend at 26PSI is making 600hp.. Not to be rude but you need to do more research

Let me try again, and this time when you reply, don't be so condescending: An S trim blower on my SAME 5 liter at 12 PSI, ONLY made 341 rear wheel horsepower and 377 rear wheel torque. The SAME engine with a 62mm turbo (no other changes) at 10 PSI made 444.6 rear wheel horses and 538 lb/ft of torque. I am talking about power output. When manifild pressure is the same, the difference is overall power output. And yes, ROOTS style superchargers make boost just off idle, where turbos lag.

Dude, WTF are you talking about? Who is "he" you are refering to? I was talking about MY Mustang, MY supercharger and then the swap to a turbo. The S Trim made (read above so I don't have to retype everything for you), then when I bolted the turbo on with no other mods, the turbo made 103.6 more horsepower than the blower and the turbo was at a lower boost. Please pay attention...The turbo bested the blower in torque too by 161 lb/ft of torque. You do the math!

12lbs of boost on my friends cobra his license is Termin8tin in CA is running low side 500hp at 10lbs of boost and the KB 2.6L turned up is near 700 if your shop at 12lbs of boost ran anything under 400 they did it wrong. I'll explain what I am saying.

if Manifold pressure is manifold pressure all things equal the only advantage a turbo has is intake temperature (doubtful you can equalize that) ease of making more boost it's harder to turn up a supercharger than it is a blower. And HP lost in turning the supercharger. What your saying is that supercharger ate 103HP IF boost is boost? get me? If that's not the case then it's simple your timing injection fuel mixture and or boost gauges were way off.

I am not refering to a roots blower. I am refering to an S-trim. I am also not saying you cannot make great power with a roots blower. You can! What I am saying is that a turbo makes more PEAK power. That is fact. The reason Saleen and just about anyone else use blowers (especially on the street) is expense and streetability. Roots blowers (as I said before) make great torque off idle. A turbo's boost comes on violently. I have one video of my Mustang posted.

If you read back at the beginning, I agreed with you. The only thing I stated was that off the top, a blower bleeds power from your engine (it does). A turbo is non-parasitic. A blower requires the crank to turn it. Those are facts. I've been doing this for 20 years my friend so if you think I'm the one that doesn't know what I'm talking about, you are DEAD WRONG. Why do you think I switched over to a turbo and spent another 5K to do it? Yes I do have dyno numbers.

Lightnings before 03 were notorious for engine knocking as well as easy of blowing the engine. Now I know some of you have some that have been reliable but I've seen many many 00-01 Lightnings with blown motors.

Sucks about the Motor....I had a ford diesel and blew the head gaskets out off a tune, CAI and 4" turbo back....sold it and now I got the SRT-10..almost went with the Lightning but no 4 door and the Harley Davidson SC is too slow, my bro's 06' 5.7L ram could hang with it...SRT is amazingly fast especially the auto tranny when it's rolling...you'll come back strong!
