when telling the story of carl and ellie it was just a tear jerk-er. i mean when it showed ellie had lost the baby without words just pictures...unbelievable how well they told the story of the ups and downs it really could make kids and adults alike understand what was happening without voices coming out of the characters.
Why do I keep watching clips of this movie, I hated it. ): It still makes me cry just thinking about it. They kill off my favorite character in like, the first fifteen minutes. I: Sure, it was funny sometimes, but the beginning just ruined the whole thing for me...
I had a friend that looked exactly like her when we were kids, but then, she moved. I havn't seem her since. Ellie reminds me alot of her. (Still loving ya Devon...)
I cried. Like a little baby, it was so beautiful, I have never cried at any part of a movie ever. Pixar does serious and beautiful well. I watched it with my girlfriend, we cried, we laughed, we listened. This movie is a masterpiece.
@fatimamusic13 Yea Ellie couldn't have kids ,I felt sad when that part came up I always feel like crying when I see a Pixar movie they're so beautiful
Everything in this movie came together so well. The expert animation and rendering, character development, storytelling, music, voice acting...to say that is was one thing that made this movie so fantastic would be a severe understatement. It was the work and care of literally thousands of individuals that brought it together :-) And it shows in every single frame, from beginning to end. I could watch this movie again and again, and still feel the same way as when I first saw it.
This is one of the best Pixar movies that has been ever made. It's so...well, word's can't describe it. Take my advice and see the movie yourself, people.
I just bought this on Blu Ray, and it is worth it, Pixar did such a beautiful job like always! I'm married now and I've been buying Pixar's movies slowly, hopefully I'll have children one day and I hope they'll enjoy as much as I do.
The Carl and Ellie montage was an absolutely beautiful piece of cinema. Not a dry eye in any house anywhere. Congratulations on your 5 Oscar nominations especially Best Picture. Well and truly deserved.
Pixar makes some of the most adorable female characters I've seen. The largish round head with the tiny, somewhat mischievous mouth and bright eyes just sell me. Somethin' about 'em. Good examples include Ellie and Elastigirl.
Up honestly has to be one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life, ranking up with The Shawshank Redemption, Ed Wood, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and others.
I always tear up when I watch any part of Carl and Ellie. Whether it be just a flashback of him remembering her or the beginning scenes of the movie, this movie turns me into complete mush. Talk about a real-tear jerker, nothing beats this movie. So emotion-provoking.
I think its agree'd that Pixar finally got the worlds tough guy populaton to break out in a single tear with the opening scene with these two! If you didn't have the slightest urge to not cry, whats wrong with you?!
This comment was actually the final straw for me that convinced me to watch the movie. I was so sure I wouldn't cry and the movie was just overhyped. I was absolutely wrong, and I cried twice. :P
I saw this movie for the first time this weekend and this scene made me feel strange inside - I don't know what it is.
That got me thinking: Can this kind of love/relationship exist in today's society? (Carl is probably 70 or so in this movie, that means he's born in the 30-40's)
i was kinda sad knowing that all those years he spent chasing that dream of theirs the dream of adventure, when it turned out that her adventure was marrying and spending her life with him
Oh my goodness, the directors were right, even with this clip, it started make me cry and wipe my eyes of tears. BRAVO to the team at Pixar, this motion picture deserves an Academy Award for animated feature of 2009!
it's a beautiful thing when artists are encouraged to follow their instincts and do what they're best at.
the result is seen in UP.
in this clip you'll see the evolution of imagination and feeling put finally on - screen.
I watched the Special Features parts on the Blu Ray and the commitment to getting it 'right' was beyond amazing! Artists climbing those mountains and risking their lives for the sake of great art.
Thanks to all at Pixar and, dare I say it, Disney for contributing for all.
Carl and Ellie's story truely hit home because my mom wasn't supposed to have kids. So, to me, the story of "UP' is the story of my parents if they had not adopted my oldest sis and if the miricle of my sister and me had not have happened. It almsot makes me want to see that other universe where my parents never had kids, just to see how much like Carl and Ellie they'd be.
Up is a beautiful movie. Pixar has such quality that you can't find anywhere else. They don't rush, they take thier time, and it shows. Thumbs Up Pixar : )
i loved the ending, when the house fell, & the old man said "its just a house", i was all sad & happy . then the camera went to the cliff & it was in the spot where ellie wanted it <3 made me smile. CUTEST movie EVER .
It was rather funny when my parents and I were watching this film.....when my Dad was in the military, he was stationed in Germany for some time before they had children. They always promised they would go back to Germany for an anniversary.
During the beginning of the movie, my mother turned to my father and joked, "Is Germany our Paradise Falls?"
Very good film. It felt like an extended version of one of Pixar's short films, yet it never ran out of energy.
emazez me how they evoked so much emotion in the begining sequence of the movie....i really didnt know either of the characters first time seeing it yet somehow i cried within the first 10 minutes of the movie...amazing how they made you care for the characters in such a short period of time

I think this is a great example that Pixar can do animated movies for everyone, including adults.
Not only is it amusing for the kids to see a flying house but it also keeps the adults accompanying them transfixed with the underlying story.
