  • Can you explain how the levitation works like what are the poles of the magnets. How you tune it to levitate. Thanks

  • Lid, I finally found 2 ring magnets. They were on a magnetic parts dish bottom, under a rubber cup, at the auto parts store. In the discount bin! I bought 1 and checked that it could "float" a ring magnet for polarity alignment. They work. Now I can finally build it and when I work in my room it will start automatically like the room comes alive. lol Great little project.

  • Lid, I finally received my Waving Cat. lol I cannot find the large ring magnets anywhere. The magnets on the shaft resemble the RS ones. Right? I love this magnetically suspended, self starter. I may have to use 3 neos on each end till I can find a large set of rings to "levitate" it. The rings just have a cool look. Now it needs a small Muller rotor on the end. The drive portion is done. Wonder if the drive rotor had side facing neos for a muller coil?

  • Hiya - is there any way you can point out the paper clip holder them magnets come from? ideally on the internet so a may buy some. im in the UK

  • @lykenth08 ----I got the magnets at a dollar store here and could not find them anywhere else---but I think that they are the same ones that are used in audio speakers. I did find other paper clip holders at an office supply store that used smaller ring magnets that might work.

  • Pretty slick Lidmotor for such a small solar cell. Self starting too! If you burnt the insulation off the end of the wire and measured the dia and the resistance of the coil, you would know how many feet were on it of what gauge wire. If the circuit is under one of the black epoxy blobs, abt all you can do is measure the output to the coil and make a circuit that replicates the voltage, pulse etc....Nice little low powered motor though. Well done!

  • front page material. maybe in mandarin the schematic will be listed lol

  • If this could turn a fan blade, It would make a great ventilator for boats. Can you make this in to something practical? Best Regards

  • @0nerozen0 -----Yes! I was thinking the same thing about making this into a small fan for the boat that ran on ambient light inside the boat. Good for hot summer nights.

  • Can you share the schematic some time?

    Greets M

  • @sMartcreations2010 ----I would share the circuit schematic if I knew what it was. This solar cell drive unit came out of a "Solar Waving Cat" toy (see them here on Youtube). I have been unable to duplicate the circuit.

  • Thanks for posting,Very nice all projects :),I always appreciate

    A greeting :)

  • Awsome idea what about placing maggie next to the solar cell so she can put light on the cell so it will turn over just an idea but worth look at but not sure it would help.

  • @egn83b ----This light weight rotor will not work Maggie unfortunately. She needs a stronger rotating flux field.

  • @beac310 -----I found the large ring magnets at the Dollar Tree store (cost $1 ea.). They are in a magntetic paper clip holder. I think that speaker magnets would also work. The small ones I got at K&JMagnetics online.
