You can watch this over and over again and it makes you laugh. The timing is spot on, and the drawn out gag about the coffee really gets me. Is it black or wwwwwhite? The coffee, I mean. Priceless.
I was priveliged to actually work with Jim Casey and Eli (whose real name is Jackie Casey, by the way) in 2000 when they did this sketch as part of a variety bill we put together, as part of a festival in Morecambe. The third man in the act was none other than Mike Craig - he was truly wonderful - they all were - and it is one of my true high spots, which I'll never forget. I've also seen them do it at City Varieties, Leeds and the Spa in Scarborough. Hope I get the chance to see it again.
Shame the beginning and end of this clip are missing. This must be one of the greatest sketches ever. The comic timing is razor sharp. I love the way Jimmy James starts off appearing to be the only sensible one and ends up being just as insane as the other two.
A brilliant sketch! I remember seeing Roy, Jimmy and Eli performing this live at Bridlington (ABC cinema I think) in the late 195o's when I was only about 9years old.
Alma Cogan was on the same bill - I've got her autograph on a photograph somewhere.
This line, "Are you putting it about that I'm barmy?", spoken by Roy Castle, is actually from this very sketch. The recording of the Box sketch which is posted here is, incidentally, incomplete. I've seen a longer version on film, and the sketch as done live by Jim Casey and Eli is the full version from Jimmy James's variety act, which was of course a 12 minute spot.
Great stuff, I saw them in Leeds in April too with Ray Allen the ventriloquist who was top of the bill playing Roy Castles part. Superb entertainment.
James Casey and Eli Woods performed this legendary sketch on the Royal Variety Show in 1982, with Roy Castle. James Casey and Eli still perform it regularly; most recently they were at the City Varieties Theatre, Leeds, in April 2007.

This sketch is up there with the Monty Python Parrot Sketch and the Four Candles sketch by The Two Ronnies - one of the VERY best ever written.

This was also re-jigged for the Royal Variety Performance in the 1980's and Eli starred in it - a gem.

Classic and supremely funny. I'd love to find a clip of Lancashire Albert Modley, but there don't seem to be any in existence.

I've got this on video. Great to see it on here.
Eli Woods is so underrated.
Jimmy's son James Casey took over and this sketch was redone on 'The Old Boys Network' I think it was. Classic comedy. Not enough of this on TV.
