You are right about enjoying it. I think I am really beginning to enjoy singing. I use to be into that rap phase where I would make hip hop tracks and it really didn't fit my personality. I wanted to learn how to sing but your videos have not only helped me but it actually motivated me to work even harder. So hopefully I will fix my horrible voice and breathe proper when I sing. You've got many years of independance ahead of you. My father died in August, and my Grandmother died a few months before that. I met my father when I was 21. I have a daughter who is 13 and I love her with all my heart. If I stopped her from going out, it would be because I would worry that she might get hurt, and if she did, I would blame myself for it. It's really difficult for parents to let go. I know. You just have to help them realise that you are growing up now :)

what do your headphones do?

I play the music through the headphones, and not the speakers. This means that when I sing, the microphone only records my voice. That enables me to add effects to the voice only before it gets mixed with the music :)

I love the fact that people think you are lip-syncing. I take that as a compliment. All my vids are me singing the songs. A number of my earlier videos had audio/video sync problems, which resulted in the sound not matching the video.

I think that everybody is capable of singing well, except for those that have something physically wrong with their voice box. It's all about regular practice. I made 3 videos on here with singing tips, which can help to give you a start. You can find them amongst my videos. They are called "How to sing" part 1, part 2 and part 3 :)

Well I've changed a few things since this vid. I am just using the onboard effects on the soundcard, and an AKG C1000 microphone.

I've since picked up a Tube pre-amp for the mic.

I've been working a lot on production over the last year. Mainly for my own songs.

I think you mean moving in and out of Falsetto.

The answer. Lot's of practice. When you first start doing it, it can sound awful, but stick at it and have patience. It took me months.

There's not too much else to know for the basics. Once you start noticing the differences, you will probably start experimenting with different sounds. I know I did :)

I don't claim to be a fantastic singer. I just really enjoy it, and that's one of the most important things, and it affects the results.

I think we all have different voices, and like the sound of different voices too :)

The effect I'm using is "Reverb". It's part of the software installed with my sound card. A lot of sound cards have effects that you can turn on and off in their software control panel.

Reverb, uhh? Well I use a program call audacity that has that effect but I don't know how to set it up to sound as yours.

I have another question, what is that thing in front in the microphone called and what it is for?

Audacity processes effects on the output. Your sound card control panel will process effects on the input, so you can hear them when you talk on the mic.

The thing in front of the mic is a "Pop filter". It stops all the "P" sounds etc from overloading the mic. I made mine from a coat hanger and a pair of stockings, but you can buy them. I saw a guy in a studio do it, and he said it works just as well :)

You don't really need any special soundcard. I use a Sonic Fury card. A standard Sounblaster card is good enough to produce a song with several tracks.
