Yes this is one of the greatest concerts of all time. Flea was very humbled to be a part of it. The book WHORES goes into it at length, a great read for any JA fan.
I love Perry, I really do, but the band wasnt the same when Avery left.
Their aint no right- Just whats good- FCK the rest- they will never get it// all in a moment- whats a million when you look into a first, second, thirds- eYes! Sea of grass! ;-) you are the one. 16-19-23-45...
@wenders99 Haha dude, no disrespect, Avery is a good bassist and he wrote this sweet bassline which the whole song was most likely based off of, but that's Flea subbing in. Not some random guy...FLEA. He most definitely holds this shit down!
Avery wrote quite a few Jane's songs, actually. ("Mountain Song", "Had a Dad", "Jane Says", and "Summertime Rolls" to name some). Flea's contribution is as a tribute band bassist.
@wenders99 Avery was the backbone of Jane's Addiction. The J.A. music of today isn't bass driven like when Eric was in the band. Just will NEVER be the same. Sorry Perry.............Now this new album due out. They use some shit in the background and you hardly hear bass. Too damn bad. Wish Avery was with the band still. Guess he just couldn't cow tow to Perry. I think Perry is bitter at Avery for leaving. Perry knows how very valuable he was to the band. Bass driven Jane's forever!!!
@dudemanbro986 And Flea plays the bass lines as written by Avery to a tee!! Kudos to Flea. He has a lot of respect for Avery. Much more than Perry ever did....
So strange to read these "love" comments but here's the deal. When I saw them at the first Lollapalooza (1991) the crowd in Dallas had been rowdy and fighting all day. During Janes Addiction all of that stopped. People were mezmerized by it. Watching these vids brings back that feeling. One of the greatest sounding bands of all time!!!
i first heard this song at a party in cullowhee back in the early 90's. it was late & most of us were a little the worse for wear on various substances. someone put this on the stereo & it took me right back up..... god, i miss "the good old days" hanging out at the ghetto with the art freaks & band geeks!
i had the pleasure of meeting perry before he knew who he was as a singer hanging out with my surfer friends all from miami back in the early 80's when we were in southern california... pure creative genius, poet & quite an artist as well... i admire the guts he has to do what he does and express himself completely...
*I strongly recommend watching: Money as Debt, Freedom to Fascism, Ring of Power, 911 mysteries, Vibration Creates Form, Behold a Pale Horse, 2012 Enigma, Esoteric Agenda, Jim Marrs the 4th Reich, American Drug War Americas Last White Hope, The Polarity Matrix Field, Graham Hancock - Quest for the Lost Civilization, Michael Tsarion - Architects of Control Program, The Celestine Prophecy, Agenda 21 For Dummies, Rik Clay & 2012- RIP, Fluoride Deception, Indigenous Native American Prophecy. @fafisan, I apologize, dude, I should not have jumped on you like that. I just figured that since Jane's was an LA band, they would have kicked off Lollapalooza in their home state; I should not assume that.
Anyway, I apologize for my snarky reply to your comment - now I realize you only meant to say the first Lollapalooza "tour", as opposed to the opening "show".
@frankc32 Haha! It's all good, my friend. I enjoyed the experience wholesomely. It was a "turning point" for me, that first festival. I jumped the (police) fence somewhere around My Bloody Valentine, and saw them at a 30'th row seat for free!!! Stuck around and saw NIN at the front row!!! @fafisan Not My Bloody Valentine, sorry, meant to say Rollins Band. Was thinking of a later venue, 1 or 2 years after. I think I rushed the fence both times!
I remember that Mountain View venue distinctly 'cause I had just moved out to CA, was living with a friend and her roommate, and so as way of paying them back, I got us tix to the show.
A fine time was had by all, although some of the memories are a little, um, hazy?
@bschultzful and if more people picked up a book or 2 the majority would know exactly what you just stated and things would be alot easier, but for now, and as always we're surrounded by people who cling to tradition because its comfortable and all the questions have been answered for them. all metaphor is out the window. imagine how many would lose all moral ground once they realize none of it matters. thats the panic that we're waiting for, i guess, lol. *shrug* que sera sera
@bschultzful it's cool man. I understand that when people read some of my comments they tend to take them personally immediately. but thats human nature to try and defend either one's physical self or their state of mind. Human to defend a mindset, Animal to defend the form. I will say though, when at first you seemed to be in opposition, at least you were respectful and reasonable. If we had really disagreed I may have had a true debate and not some heated arguement where you called me gay.
@bschultzful in my opinion... if you dont mind... I think that possibly athiests have the ability to feel empathetically divinity in their own way. Without any preconcieved notion as to who what when where or how "god" or "infinate conciousness" is or may be. Of course after dropping all past bitterness, confusion, and opening one'self completely to the possibility of "anything" or "nothing". But then there will always be those who feel no need for this.
@bschultzful here we go again with the hang ups of terms and taking people literally. look, if you knew me, youd know to me, being in the presense of live (good) music is to be in the "presense" of "god". note the little g, sir. I really dont give two good shits about what people think god is. to me god is electricity. keep in mind i'm communicating with a world that still hold these beliefs in some"thing". who is this "us" you speak for brother?
This is how I feel today. I was at this show. It was amazing. I love Perry. "Theres so much space I can cut me a piece with some fine wine and bring peace to my mind."
@hansen6102 dude im sure loads of people have told you but just in case, i think he just joined Janes for this relapse tour thing since the chilis weren't really doing anything in 97. Sorry if im being a pain in the ass and happy if im helping. Peace man :D
Your videos of this show have brought back for me the ability to re-experience the best show I have ever been to in my entire life and there have been hundreds. this tour was just magical.
Holy Crap - I was at this show! Only time I saw them and 13 years later out of nowhere, here it is! Thank you for posting this - what a beautiful night!
I song love this song!! First heard this on WRPB - was a bit surprised they even played it. Got the cd next day. Great version here. Thanks so much for posting!
I'll say this... Im about 10 years too young to have seen these guys, late bloomer to divinity. I played this album for a coworker, and I heard him mutter after this song played "gay", he didnt think I heard him, and it hurt, I felt sorry for him. I thought "What soulless, heartless, 'godless' creature must you be to not understand and feel the pure essence of Love when its in the room with you. Touching you with sound? Dont you get it yet?", but whatever, its ok... it rolls, right?
These guys put together some very tough and bulletproof music at times. I never heard this tune, thanks for posting. "Just Because" is one of my personal favorites. I've always liked Navarro's work. "Aeroplane" with the Chili Peppers is a mind blower. Isn't he married to Pamela Anderson or someone? And like Perry once said something to the effect of "we're the sexiest mf's in the biz..."
@DisgustipatedUlaji There are many that cannot feel.. perhaps in the next life for them ah bro.. good for you for being able to catch the vibes! get out there and enjoy everything nature has to offer! this song for me is one I listened to while going surfing in Costa Rica back in 2000 amazing times! peace.
@DisgustipatedUlaji 9 monthes later and the view is still taking my breath ;), until I have a friend who does 3D art work, I think I'll never trully get to show the world what I saw that night, i try to draw it, scultp it, no medium is right... maybe one day, but something tells me you've seen... for yourself.
@tennpaul I've come to the conclusion that if they dont get it, its either just because some people just arent on the same frequency as the vibe the music creates. its doesnt speak to them I guess, and even to those who enjoy the music but arent "touched" by it... maybe they just dont know how to open up to it totally. or to anything, who knows, Im just glad we get it. Like Zappa Fans, Claypool Fans, Tool Fans, Flaming Lips Fans... Im just glad we get it.
@DisgustipatedUlaji Man, sometimes we do things just so the people around us expose themselves for what they are.... for real, you have found a gift... enjoy it , it's yours ; )
@Lemure333 Your message is so sweet and simple. makes me feel as though ive always been right in what Ive done to gain or lose friends. my star element is fire, but im the least to fear out of the 3 flames in the zodiac. i cant help but think the strong tone i use will one day be heard by those with empathy, and instead of treating me like an easy target, embrace me as a sister of the soul/solar system. Thats what you guys remind me of, and thank you so much for it. Its ours.
its a good version crazymob... i have a version i love... i think i got it on Kazaa way back in the day.. form Lolla 91 in Washington State.. Perry does this awesome 3 minute intro/speech.. ha that guy could just talk forever so great
i liked them the first second i heard it i remember it in what 91. It took 2 seconds to say this is the best shit ever. ofcourse now radiohead is the best shit ever. Maybe if they could have kept it together they would still be the best.
This music means so fucking much to me. It changed my life and my whole perception of what life means. This shit blows me away. So haunting and prophetic. I did alot of acid when I was youger. That might have an indirect impact on my perception of the meanings.
I am 100% with you! First time I ever heard Janes i was tripping balls...and someone put 3 days on....took me on a journey I pray I never come back from.Been clean 4 years though ;)
@Caligamecock right there with you buddy. it was nothings shocking for me... we were watching bbc blue planet and followed it up with the album... surfNturf of the cosmic soul it was... these guys have a pure essence that they convey flawlessly. I never knew they used dancers for their act, but that night, all I could see were puzzles made up of flowers and naked bodies with no begining or ending... when I watched 3 days the movie, i couldnt stop crying. it was my vision manifest. shine on
thank goodness I had friends that sat me done in the late 80's and spoon fed me the incredible Perry Farrell and Jane's Addiction. I am so grateful for their insight into such a gem of an artist.
this reminds me of a lil roadtrip i took and it was amazing just me and alot of friends and this song was almost the theme song of that holiday, magic times, magic song really like reminds me of the good old days whenever i hear it
Reminds me of the summer of '96 when I hired out an Aston Martin for a week to go drive across Scotland with just a few cassettes for company. I thought fuck the hotels...it was so warm at night, so I'd park up by the road, and find some soft ground to put my sleeping-bag under the stars with a bottle of wine and a spliff.
Once in a lifetime, and could never be repeated.
Thanks Perry, you're as good a songwriter as Hendrix.
All haters aside, I would be in tears at the beauty that was this show. Congrats to the east-coasters that got to be there. No one walked out of there saying they didn't get their money's worth. Good job JA, and congrats to all the people smart enough to go.
You have to admit Perry is a little strange, but his voice is amazing. This was one of the best performances I have ever seen by Jane's Addiction and it only has 583 views!

Its ours.

@DisgustipatedUlaji don't worry about it, people that use the word "gay" as an insult are just in the closet.

Such a shame that Eric A. waited until Perry didn't have any voice left with his comeback.

i liked them the first second i heard it i remember it in what 91.

Wish I coulda joined you.

You have to admit Perry is a little strange, but his voice is amazing. This was one of the best performances I have ever seen by Jane's Addiction and it only has 583 views!
ritchieprime 3 years ago 3
Perry is just one of a kind, all hes ever tried to be...
He tries hard to be original and I guess that makes him 'a little strange' to anyone 'normal'.
Xiolablu3 3 years ago 3
im not sure that he tries to be original ..i think hes just a very unique individual anyway
