@trannypolicefu tekken is bigger in japan too. living there most of my japanese friends had a copy of tekken and might have never heard of virtua fighter. Although it is extremely popular and gets great reviews, it's overshadowed by tekken and capcom, sammy, and even segas own bleach fighting game there as well. I personally wouldn't mind if they brought the old bushido blade games back to life.
probably because they have no story line whatsoever, and that eternal champions got cancelled for it. i mean, sure i grew up with both of them and i do like virtua fighter, but that did suck. Eternal Champions final chapter was the last EC game to be.
tekken was around almost at same time as VF, they had a story line, even endings. i made an exception with the first 3 VFs but 4 and 5 you'd figure todays technology they could add some cutscenes with people they know: Akira&Kage, Pai&Lau, Jacky&Sarah, i shouldn't have to read the book that comes with game, i should see it as a cutscene or ending. the game is cool, but i think it be more cool if they at LEAST have a rival cutscene in the game. sorry, i had alot on my chest.
This game always annoyed me because it's so beautiful and the controls are awesome but the music is bloody boring and the little unexplainable quirks like hitting a guy 5 times while their body is limp from a fall...

Awesome. I've been meaning to try out Jean. My main is Jacky, but I might switch to Jean if I like his play style better, but Jacky is lookin pretty good in this one too. And for the people complaining about rip-offs, all games rips-off from each other. Tekken is still my favorite, but VF is awesome too. Some people are just too into their own thing that they feel the need to spout flames at things they're not into. on a side note, I know Sarah does tkd-ish, but I want a legit tkd character.
Does Virtua Fighter not do good sales wise in the Western world compared to Street Fighter and Tekken or something? They both get updated releases all the time, Capcom just released their 3rd update of Street Fighter IV last month and are working on a 4th update for next year, yet SEGA never seem to bother with that, they just release the first version and leave it as it is.
@Calengela i think it have something to do with that. plus, many fighting game players tend to opt for streetfighter and/or tekken over virtua fighter because to them, this game is not as interesting and it's difficult to master. i like VF, it's my fav fighting game series.

I've noticed also that most of Virtua Fighters players are usually always adults, so no surprise then as it's just too complex for kiddies, but as you get older it gets more interesting, I didn't use to think much of Virtua Fighter when I was younger either.
@Calengela I think people should stop saying VF is too complex. This "fame" only pushes possible new players away. It's the most deep and hard to master, but easy to get into, imo. I remember a situation in 1996: I saw a boy (a think he was 11) who was incredibly good in VF2 with Jacky. At a time that the franchise was not considered as "friendly" as it is today. I think most players are adults nowadays because they've have grown up with VF. I was 12 when I became VF fan in 1995.
@Calengela i played streetfighter 2, the alpha series, third strike and super streetfighter 4. they are great games but virtua fighter is different, which is why i like it a lot.

@NinjaKingRevival Have you ever played Virtua Fighter? Jacky Bryant is one of the flagship fighters of the game. The first VF was made in 93, way before Rock Howard's debut. And Jacky Bryant's fighting style is Jeet Kune Do. The similarities end with the jacket and hair color. Oh did I mention that you can customize Jacky's clothes? So really the similarities end with the hair color. Blatant rip off? Not really. And yes I have seen Rock Howard.

@cheekalover Just so you know Virtua Fighter and Tekken aren't beat'em'ups. They are fighting games. Beat'em'ups (or brawlers) are games like Street of Rage or Double Dragon where 1-4 players beat lots of under powered enemies.
I would say God of War is also a beat'em'up but since you don't "beat" people it would be considered a Hack'em'Slash game (beat'em'up which only uses weapons, like Golden Axe). However, since you have puzzles in it, its actually an Action-Adventure game.

@MindChamber001 Nope, its D-Pad sucks. Try using Akira on a 3DS. That would be torture, and he would be the one (most newcomers) would play as first resulting in a and bad experience and giving VF a bad name. VF should remain on consoles, I did feel the PSP was a suitable candidate for a older VF game.

You'd think with all the crazy costumes they'd include some Shenmue outifts (Akira as Ryo, Lau as Lan Di, Sarah as Joy, Jeffry as Tom, Goh as Chai, Lei Fei as Guizhang, Shun Di as Jian Min, Aoi as Xiuying, Pai as Shen Hua, Eileen as Fang Mei, etc, its so obvious how they can match up the costumes and would add to the customization fun)., as well as promoting Shenmue virally.

i love vf but sega needs to stop putting these damn cages and ringouts up all the time, and let it be interactive throw the enemy though a window. knock them in to cars, some thing....im not asking for a doa clone but, come with the times. vf has been doing the same thing for years now.and the sad thing about it is vf has some of the best stages around, but wouldn't it be fun for them to be interactive. and have the characters have some damn sense, they talk so weird.

VF is a great fighting serie but I miss the depth of stories and because Sega really worked great about these great realistic moves, I was wondering if they could create more great characters with each his own fighting style.

Sega are fools not bringing Final Showdown to 360 and PS3 (and if they are not making a 3DS port they are even more stupid). Just port the game, make an online version of the Quest mode (with the arcades being lobbies; Quest mode just screams online ) would be pretty simple, and throw in a survival and time attack mode and bob's your uncle. Since SFIV there's been a renaissance in the fighting genre yet Sega seem oblivious to this. The stupidity beggars belief.
Virtua Fighter is by no means perfect but has fewer faults than Mortal Kombat. What I most appreciate about this series is the toned down nature of the violence and sex appeal, both of which are taken to extremes in Mortal Kombat.
@DoubleIntruder A friend of mine called Mortal Kombat synchronized button mashing. A practiced player, even on MK Armageddon (where designers made obvious efforts to shorten combos), can perform a combo so long that when it ends the opponent need only be hit once to win the round. Another annoying aspect of Mortal Kombat is the A.I. which, even when set at medium, is able to block the player's every move.
Besides MK I'm not familiar with the work of Ed Boon.

Its well worth getting, plenty of depth and it looks absolutely beautiful; the detail on the characters and their clothing is stunning, and it plays with a fluidity that I have not found in any other fighting game.

That one doesn´t look very real at all! The animations are so bad, and their movement is just years behind games like Tekken, SF, or Soul Calibur. So even if it is very deep, it´s looks and feels like too much behind in time.

@cruisecontrol318 In Vf5 to pay homage to bruce lee.. Jacky automatically grabs all one handed attacks except elbow when left neutral. Once he grabs them he can back hand them for the reversal. Now in Final showdown he can still grab all on handed attack but only the Basic (P) button.. When he does now he automattically goes into the Win chun Pak Sao animation you see now. He side shuffle (Bruce lee's hopback like Law.) Subaki all one handed attacks and he follow up with bruce lee like backhand

SEGA-pls por-favor FIX Goh's GRABS= he doesnt connect as quick. Goh's opponents feels too slippery. That was the BEST about GOH= the Distance, Quickness, and "Stickyness" of his grabs, most opponents get PUNISHED for being too RELAX, but in FS he feels like he CANT even REACH his Opponents, Bring Back the GRABBIN' GOH !!! w/ Sabaki Sprinkles on the Side.

@SDSOverfiend REALLLY, hmmm, am an intermediate player for the most part and i really lyk Goh. when i played in VF5R and VF5FS he definitely felt he had more damage and more combo's but i felt lyk i couldn't set up ppl anymore, his grabs felt RESTRICTED and SLOWER. i guess i havent played it enough, my W/L ratio was 1/3 (PVP), i sucked and every game was 100 Yen so i couldn't really stay there for hours learning stuff. hmmm which one did u play??. HOPEFULLY THOUGH THIS GAME COMES THRU!!!
@taengbakados I only played VF5 for the last 4 years lol!!! Goh's Striking game in FS is far supierior than R because of the simplified throw mechanics now. In R you had to defend against 5 directions using 3 escape inputs but in FS You only have to defend against 3 direction at only 1 especape input. Since his throw game has been nerf he can now deal more damge from combo's. The throw animation is a bit quick down to 10 frame since they removed zero framed throws and Clashing.

@taengbakados Nah i reside in Brooklyn lol!!! His throw animations are moe visceral but the animation for throw was shortened. He still beastly but at this point i would love to have R first.. R slowly weens you into FS believe it or not. Hopefully we can see a released date. It would be well worth it.

Nfox0900, you have a really really good point there. that would really boost the game even more than what goodness it already is, but then idk, that might take away from a future installment from gettin made, but again it would give the game more longevity. I mean the graphics are already top shelf compared to the others so i would just incorperate the same engines for final showdown but yeah add the character creator in and definetly some more styles to tinker with in making movesets.
So we have Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Fighter 5 R and now Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown? If Virtua Fighter 5 didn't do too well, why does Sega just tinker with the series? They should make Virtua Fighter 6 and re-do the game. New characters, GOOD STORYLINE with cut scenes, COUPLE NEW BOSSES (no lame Dural), get rid of bad "hitting" and "swooshing" sound effects and add online.
@Bflo23 It doesn't do well on console, because it was never on the popular console until VF4 hit the PS2. It still does well enough in the arcade to warrant upgrades though. It's the 2nd highest earning arcade game behind Tekken 6, so that's enough reason for Sega to keep doing upgrades like this.
@itsumobasho..... I don't even know where I can find an arcade anymore. They have become so rare nowadays. It serves no purpose to make an arcade version and not a PS3 version. Why not improve the series instead of tinkering it? The fighting is good but I always thought they should have improved single player mode with some storyline, cut-scenes, bosses and good ending. No more credit endings! As much as I enjoyed VF4:EVOLUTION, I thought it could have been better by improving these aspects.

@itsumobasho did you saw man list of bestselling franchise games of all times.....that list was made last february where tekken was 28th with 39 milion units sold worldwide,and street fighter was 40th with 29 milions sold wwide.....dead or alive and virtua fighter(unfortunately) wasnt even mentioned.....after that list was made tekken 6 br was released in october last year and until now tekken 6 br sold over 4 milions copies worldwide and just in usa fromm may-jun of 2010 t 6 br sold over 1.7..

@itsumobasho An online version of the Quest Mode would be completely awesome. The Quest Mode is how VF's online should work. The different arcades would be lobbies and the tournaments would be held at certain times.
It would be nice if Sega actually marketed Virtua Fighter, especially given its the only Sega game that actually feels like a Sega game.

@Calengela i think it have something to do with that. plus, many fighting game players tend to opt for streetfighter and/or tekken over virtua fighter because to them, this game is not as interesting and it's difficult to master. i like VF, it's my fav fighting game series.

I have to say I like Street Fighter a lot too, but it's definitely not as in depth as Virtua Fighter, still fun though.
I've noticed also that most of Virtua Fighters players are usually always adults, so no surprise then as it's just too complex for kiddies, but as you get older it gets more interesting, I didn't use to think much of Virtua Fighter when I was younger either.

@Calengela I think people should stop saying VF is too complex. This "fame" only pushes possible new players away. It's the most deep and hard to master, but easy to get into, imo. I remember a situation in 1996: I saw a boy (a think he was 11) who was incredibly good in VF2 with Jacky. At a time that the franchise was not considered as "friendly" as it is today. I think most players are adults nowadays because they've have grown up with VF. I was 12 when I became VF fan in 1995.

@NinjaKingRevival Have you ever played Virtua Fighter? Jacky Bryant is one of the flagship fighters of the game. The first VF was made in 93, way before Rock Howard's debut. And Jacky Bryant's fighting style is Jeet Kune Do. The similarities end with the jacket and hair color. Oh did I mention that you can customize Jacky's clothes? So really the similarities end with the hair color. Blatant rip off? Not really. And yes I have seen Rock Howard.

@cheekalover Just so you know Virtua Fighter and Tekken aren't beat'em'ups. They are fighting games. Beat'em'ups (or brawlers) are games like Street of Rage or Double Dragon where 1-4 players beat lots of under powered enemies.
I would say God of War is also a beat'em'up but since you don't "beat" people it would be considered a Hack'em'Slash game (beat'em'up which only uses weapons, like Golden Axe). However, since you have puzzles in it, its actually an Action-Adventure game.

always been a fan of VF, have had every version on almost every system (minus the 32x).. but I dont think theres enough here for me to get another 360 version.
I would however, love this for my 3DS..,
The first 3D (polygonal ) on the first 3D eyeglassless system seems like a perfect fit

@MindChamber001 Nope, its D-Pad sucks. Try using Akira on a 3DS. That would be torture, and he would be the one (most newcomers) would play as first resulting in a and bad experience and giving VF a bad name. VF should remain on consoles, I did feel the PSP was a suitable candidate for a older VF game.
Street Fighter 3DS is one of the worst fighting game ever. Admittedly DOA 3DS is alot better.

You'd think with all the crazy costumes they'd include some Shenmue outifts (Akira as Ryo, Lau as Lan Di, Sarah as Joy, Jeffry as Tom, Goh as Chai, Lei Fei as Guizhang, Shun Di as Jian Min, Aoi as Xiuying, Pai as Shen Hua, Eileen as Fang Mei, etc, its so obvious how they can match up the costumes and would add to the customization fun)., as well as promoting Shenmue virally.

Sega are fools not bringing Final Showdown to 360 and PS3 (and if they are not making a 3DS port they are even more stupid). Just port the game, make an online version of the Quest mode (with the arcades being lobbies; Quest mode just screams online ) would be pretty simple, and throw in a survival and time attack mode and bob's your uncle. Since SFIV there's been a renaissance in the fighting genre yet Sega seem oblivious to this. The stupidity beggars belief.

Virtua Fighter is by no means perfect but has fewer faults than Mortal Kombat. What I most appreciate about this series is the toned down nature of the violence and sex appeal, both of which are taken to extremes in Mortal Kombat.

A practiced player, even on MK Armageddon (where designers made obvious efforts to shorten combos), can perform a combo so long that when it ends the opponent need only be hit once to win the round. Another annoying aspect of Mortal Kombat is the A.I. which, even when set at medium, is able to block the player's every move.
Besides MK I'm not familiar with the work of Ed Boon.

Its well worth getting, plenty of depth and it looks absolutely beautiful; the detail on the characters and their clothing is stunning, and it plays with a fluidity that I have not found in any other fighting game.

That one doesn´t look very real at all! The animations are so bad, and their movement is just years behind games like Tekken, SF, or Soul Calibur. So even if it is very deep, it´s looks and feels like too much behind in time.

@cruisecontrol318 In Vf5 to pay homage to bruce lee.. Jacky automatically grabs all one handed attacks except elbow when left neutral. Once he grabs them he can back hand them for the reversal. Now in Final showdown he can still grab all on handed attack but only the Basic (P) button.. When he does now he automattically goes into the Win chun Pak Sao animation you see now. He side shuffle (Bruce lee's hopback like Law.) Subaki all one handed attacks and he follow up with bruce lee like backhand

SEGA-pls por-favor FIX Goh's GRABS= he doesnt connect as quick. Goh's opponents feels too slippery. That was the BEST about GOH= the Distance, Quickness, and "Stickyness" of his grabs, most opponents get PUNISHED for being too RELAX, but in FS he feels like he CANT even REACH his Opponents, Bring Back the GRABBIN' GOH !!! w/ Sabaki Sprinkles on the Side.

@SDSOverfiend REALLLY, hmmm, am an intermediate player for the most part and i really lyk Goh. when i played in VF5R and VF5FS he definitely felt he had more damage and more combo's but i felt lyk i couldn't set up ppl anymore, his grabs felt RESTRICTED and SLOWER. i guess i havent played it enough, my W/L ratio was 1/3 (PVP), i sucked and every game was 100 Yen so i couldn't really stay there for hours learning stuff. hmmm which one did u play??. HOPEFULLY THOUGH THIS GAME COMES THRU!!!

@taengbakados I only played VF5 for the last 4 years lol!!! Goh's Striking game in FS is far supierior than R because of the simplified throw mechanics now. In R you had to defend against 5 directions using 3 escape inputs but in FS You only have to defend against 3 direction at only 1 especape input. Since his throw game has been nerf he can now deal more damge from combo's. The throw animation is a bit quick down to 10 frame since they removed zero framed throws and Clashing.

Nfox0900, you have a really really good point there. that would really boost the game even more than what goodness it already is, but then idk, that might take away from a future installment from gettin made, but again it would give the game more longevity. I mean the graphics are already top shelf compared to the others so i would just incorperate the same engines for final showdown but yeah add the character creator in and definetly some more styles to tinker with in making movesets.

They should make Virtua Fighter 6 and re-do the game. @Bflo23 It doesn't do well on console, because it was never on the popular console until VF4 hit the PS2. It still does well enough in the arcade to warrant upgrades though. It's the 2nd highest earning arcade game behind Tekken 6, so that's enough reason for Sega to keep doing upgrades like this.

@itsumobasho..... I don't even know where I can find an arcade anymore. They have become so rare nowadays. It serves no purpose to make an arcade version and not a PS3 version. Why not improve the series instead of tinkering it? The fighting is good but I always thought they should have improved single player mode with some storyline, cut-scenes, bosses and good ending. No more credit endings! As much as I enjoyed VF4:EVOLUTION, I thought it could have been better by improving these aspects.

@itsumobasho did you saw man list of bestselling franchise games of all times.....that list was made last february where tekken was 28th with 39 milion units sold worldwide,and street fighter was 40th with 29 milions sold wwide.....dead or alive and virtua fighter(unfortunately) wasnt even mentioned.....after that list was made tekken 6 br was released in october last year and until now tekken 6 br sold over 4 milions copies worldwide and just in usa fromm may-jun of 2010 t 6 br sold over 1.7..

@itsumobasho milion copies.....so i am glad because of that,since i am hardcore tekkenmaniac lol,but i hate to see such game like VF(my 2nd favourite) to be beyond such retarded anime craps for kids like street fighter,mortal kombat,doa,dragon ball z etc.....its really shame....p.s can you tell me something about number of moves in vf 5??is there any improvement???

@itsumobasho An online version of the Quest Mode would be completely awesome. The Quest Mode is how VF's online should work. The different arcades would be lobbies and the tournaments would be held at certain times.
It would be nice if Sega actually marketed Virtua Fighter, especially given its the only Sega game that actually feels like a Sega game.
