You guys with your "it was luck" or "9 times out of 10 Cael wins"...

They didn't wrestle 10 times. Les won. Cael lost. That's how it works. "Luck"...sure luck plays a part in everything but "Luck" sure seems to happen to people who are in the right place at the right time. Cael put himself in a position to be thrown by a great wrestler and the great wrestler took the opportunity and threw him.

That's luck right?

I think everyone got too angry over this. Every wrestler has a bad match sometimes, and every wrestler gets lucky sometimes. I like Les Gutches. I also Like Cael Sanderson. They're both great. Just because one beats the other, doesn't make the other a bad wrestler, and it doesn't mean the winner "just got lucky." Gutches hit a good throw. He won. Do you think Sanderson bitches about Les "getting lucky?" No. They're both skilled, great American wrestlers. Let's show some respect.

YOU ALL are partison to one side or the other, I think if we asked Les and Cael about the other, they'd both compliment the other as being a tremendous world great. BOTH were and are phenomonally talented great great wrestling athletes, Before Cael, Les was dominating, the Cael dominated - - Les was winning every major tournament 10 yrs ago then he just disappeared, probably had to get a job, pay bills, marriage, wife, a garage to clean, grass to cut, bills to pay

I did wrestle with Les Gutches at oregon state,

First off, Les was hurt during this match, had very bad back problems, and he still won the match, if you see later on in the tournament he hardly finished the championship match to burton because of his back.

all cael had was an ankle pick, and really a very boring wrestler to watch, he always did the same thing.

So to some it up, sure cael has the records, but, Les is the better more complete athlete when he is at his best/ healthiest

this was at the us open in vegas and yes he won by a point so u cant take anything away from him but if they wrestle 10 times cael wins 9 and 1/2 out of ten it was a fluke

I was competing at this tournament it was in Vegas. Cael was winning 3-0 at the time of the throw bringing it to 3-3. Later in the match he snapped Gutches on his face into the mat. The Ref. Called it a slip. How he came to that conclusion I don't know. It almost cost him his head. The Gym went bullistic. Guthches ended up winning by 1 point. No Question it was a takedown. Cael caught him extended with his weight forward and made him pay. I think he even bloodied his nose when he hit the mat.

Les's sons use to train with my HS team and he'd make appearences and show us some moves on occasion. Shit was invaluable. Cael is the most accomplished American college wrestler ever but he didn't stick around in the amateur ranks long enough to carve a true legacy. Les is a world champion freestyler and he holds a Jr. worlds greco championship. He's the only man to win national championships in every wrestling style, an amazing feet. Les is the more accomplished wrestler in the amateur ranks.

A) Put yourself out of position.
