@contentlocked99 Once fully checked out & fixed for the "rough idle" I would look into upgrading the drive-train to stouter stuff, don't hot-rod the engine nor drop in a 5.0 Liter....the increase in weight, balance, horsepower will only cause trouble later. Stick with somewhat larger full-knobby style tires, don't go crazy sticking 'monster tires'.....another thing to bite you later. Don't bother to paint it as you'll be scraping branches thru trails in no time.
@contentlocked99 At 140K it would be a good bet the motors been rebuilt/replaced in dealing with the overheating/coolant issue that plagues the B2. Look up the B2 enthusiast web-sites they will have the scoop on the B2s' weaknesses & strengths.....We already know the trim size of the B2 is paramount for off-road...something Ford has overlooked. The rough idle could mean anything really, a laundry list of possibilities. I assume your S-10 is 2WD pick-up & you need more room inside.
Myself a mechanic for countless years....I have always been very impressed with the Bronco II when I've worked on them over the years. The small, narrow size is paramount for off-road work.....Ford needs to rethink their current off-road offerings to the public...the Raptor IS great, but too expensive & gigantic. With some serious re-engineering, the 'Eco-sport' can be set-up for serious off-roading.....& the right size.
@RichardEllisxyz youre a mechanic? im about to be trading my 91 2.5 5sp s10 for one with 20k more miles than my s10 the bronco ii is a 1989 and has 140k the guy said it has a rough idle. im supposed to meet and check it out this weekend. he said there wasnt any burnt coolant on the dipstick but ill check while im there just to make sure. are there any other common occurances with these fords to make them idle rough other than blown head gasket? does the overdrive going out relate at all?
love the badlands had my samurai there for zooki melt a few times but i had a 87 bronco 2 when i was in high school and i loved it except it had the 2.8 in it and it gave me some trouble and the transmission slipped going into third ive been wanting to get another for a while
@LilBluBroncoII Yep, I had an 87 with the 5spd in highschool....though i ended up replacing the 5spd with a donor one out of a junked bronco II, because the bearings were worn on the original unit. Took my 3 days with basic hand tools and spare tire jacks, and a borrowed jack from my neighbor. lol. Not bad for being only 16 at the time and never doing it before.
Bigger tires to do extreme offroad, 'cause most of the offroaders i kmow lift theyr SUV and set up bigger tires. So what is better normal size of tires without lift or lifted with bigger tires?
@LionelMessiEminem Yes bigger tires will allow easier wheeling over more difficult terrain. I always recommend the biggest tires with the least amount of lift. By trimming the fenders (cutting them larger), I squeezed 33" tall by 10.5" wide tires with only 3.5" lift. It depends on what you want and are willing to do. With no lift you could put on 235/75-15 tires which are roughly 29" tall. Otherwise, there are many suspension and body lifts avail.
hey man love the vid. i just got an 84 bII for my first vehicle, hoping to put a 302 in her sometime soon, do you have any suggestions on what gears i should use
@poopyhead1231000 Mostly depends on tire size and use. I'd say 3.73's or 4.10's for most uses upto 33" tires. RRORC.com and TRS.com are both excellent resources for all things baby Ford.
@ryanjd2006 Mine, the multi-tone "blue" BII is running the 2.9L V6 with 5spd manual, and 4.10's with 32" tires. Most of the specs on all the BII's are listed somewhere in the comments of my other videos as well, but if you have any more ?'s just ask.
@BulletTooth32 It's all in the gearing. I mostly wheel in low range, and never really have a problem with power. Mud will make any vehicle feel like your dragging a semi behind you. Good luck and have fun.
great videos guys, im attempting to buy a 85 bronco 2 from a guy at my church, its stock, do you have any ideas or reccomendations right off the bat, it will be a daily driver but i still love hitting the forest trails on weekends here in wisconsin
@spankybrandonf For trail duty, upgrade to a dana 35 ttb front axle, from an 91- 94 Explorer, 90 BII, or 93-97 Ranger, as soon as funds allow. It's a direct bolt in, except the front driveshaft will need shortened. Then maybe replace the rear driveshaft depending on which style it is. With the 2.8L V6, carb choice will make a difference performance wise. Otherwise, they are very stout and capable little rigs. rrorc.com
@LilBluBroncoII I would suggest sticking with the 2bbl motorcraft carb. They're designed for off-roading. The jets are at the bottom allowing fuel flow at just about any angle :)
@TheAngryMechanic I think that's what the grey BII with the 2.8 is using, I just don't think it was for the BII application, I want to say it was for an early Mustangs. I want to say it is a Motorcraft that was actually built by Rochester.
@bowmaster24 At the beginning of the video only 2" with 30" tires. Later stepped up to 2" suspension and 2" body and some fender trimming with 32" tires.
@bowmaster24 All 3 of our BII's are running them without any issues. I wouldn't say no if you need the extra clearance, but my preference it to keep it as low as possible and cut out the fenders as needed.

@RichardEllisxyz The Eco-Sport looks like the Escape. And I agree, Ford needs a back to basics off-road vehicle.

LilBluBroncoII 6 months ago
The first Bronco 2 that is shown on the vid, what kind of tires does it have, and is it lifted? Please reply!
LionelMessiEminem 6 months ago
@LionelMessiEminem 30x9.5R15 Uniroyal MT's. The BII had 2" blocks and front spring spacers. (Not the best set up, but cheap).
