  • I managed to get mine apart without breaking anything and put it back together again without any glue. I used a small jewelers screwdriver to pry up just enough to get the 1.5 inch knife blade of my Swiss army pocket knife (golfers edition w/divot repair tool and ball marker!) to gently PRY off the rest, letting the blade help keep the crack open. Try not to hurt yourself. Good audio instructions but the video quality is poor.

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I have a new Magic Mouse, and it's okay, but I LOVE the Mighty Mouse and was really bummed that I couldn't get it to zoom out anymore. Your video rocks! I think most of it was getting up the courage to crack it open...but your video made it really easy. Thank you!

  • or you could fallow apple's cleaning instructions... roll mouse ball on clean sheet of paper. way easier!

  • thanks. fixed mine!

  • Helped a lot thanks!

  • la primera parte parece filmado desde el talego, masho

  • I'd used the apple recommended ways to clean the mighty mouse, and, well, they're idiots for having moving parts inaccessible to cleaning. Thanks for a well done vid, Saved me from throwing the mouse across the room.

  • Thanks for the info, but I got two words for you:

    TRI POD!!

  • this is a great vid, thanks for your help mate. mouse fixed, was expecting a totally gunked trackball but actually just a tiny bit of dirt. shows how fine the tolerences must be in these things.

thanks again, im no longer shouting at my machine :)

  • what exactly did you use to get the little lid off? I have a reallyyy hard time with it haha but its really dirty I can just tell but Im scared I might do something to it

  • @cerise333 I just used a small flathead screwdriver. I worked it into the crack he showed, they gently pried it open.

  • Really the easiest way is UNPLUG first, then roll the mouse upside down on its scroll button on a piece of paper (as suggested by Apple). It works! Its too drastic to force open the mouse which obviously damages it.

  • Thanks, only this made it work again. It was very dirty inside.

  • thank you very much

    nice post

    :-)

  • You are the man! Thanks so much! I got a deal just like you did. They marked it as "broken scroll wheel" haha! Thanks man. Youre a hero.

  • Great video. But I found that w/a pc. of paper and a hard surface you can clean the ball very well, by rubbing the ball firmly upside down on the paper.

  • You got a comment from nalts - youtube celebrity, good job!!

  • Thanks! Worked like a charm. I've bought 3 of these, and got tired of replacing them. There was so much crap in there. I scotch taped mine back on because I'm scared to get glue all over it.

  • Great video man! Very helpful.

I hate it when my balls get dirty.

One suggestion I'd like to make, and I'm sorry if I'm echoing previous comments, but rather than using paper towels to clean the ball, use a microfiber cloth.

Paper towels leave a lot of lint - just enough to make one's efforts useless.

OMG! We have the same 3M 77 adhesive!

But of course, I won't use that.

    Thanks again Mang!

  • What's sad, is that there's videos on how to disassemble a $70 mouse, so that it can be cleaned, because it doesn't work right.

I expect better (a) from Apple, and (b) for $70

  • Thank you very much. This worked great.

  • Hey, for folks thinking about doing this just to get the scroll ball working again, there's no need to disassemble the mouse. Just put a liberal amount of rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip and use it to spin the scroll ball all around. Pretty soon, all the muck will be on the Q-Tip, and the scroll ball will be back to normal. Rubbing alcohol, Q-Tips, and cotton swabs kick ass for cleaning just about any computer part. Use them to that that gunk out of the keyboard while you're at it!

  • only a little bit of bleach and work!

  • microsoft scam mac dudes!

  • What size screwdriver do you need to open the top scroll wheel assembly? I cant seem to open it unscrew it!

  • Kudos. Finally solved. And thanks to you I fixed my bosses' mighty mouse as well :)

  • It hasn't worked this well in months. I had no idea it was this complicated, but your video makes it simple when you get down to it. I had no problem. But you're right: find the smallest screwdriver you have.

  • great video

  • thanks

  • thanks bro, i just fixed mine after a few months of my mouse being "broken"

  • no problem i hope you enjoy

  • Great video, thanks for posting! My 9 month old mouse works like new now. I forgot that it makes a tick sound when I scroll!

  • awesome! thanks a lot!!

  • Awsome works great now!!

  • thanks alot for this vid!

i totally fixed my mouse! :)

  • im glad to help

  • great video! thanks alot!

  • its not hard at all. infact just to keep my mouse working optimally i clean it just as i've shown you here in the video, about once a month!

  • Well back in the day when my wireless mighty mouse was under warranty, I sent it back 3 times. Then today I called about my wired mouse which took 40 minutes for them to tell me that they would send a new one LOL! I wasn't so happy.

  • I am afraid to open the mouse.

  • My mouse is doing the same thing. Won't scroll down either. Done a temporary fix for it using another method, but just to go back to not scrolling down again.

I Mite use this method if I decide it's bothering me enough to disassemble it and if I have the rite glue.

Did you get it glued back together properly afterwards?

  • Super Awesome video.... I almost gave up my wireless mouse... I was about to rush to my apple store to actually buy a new one when I saw your video and said "Meh, whats the worst thing that could happen"

Did your walk trough and my mouse is in top shape

    THANKS!
