  • NOW I SEE. INTERESTING VIDEO.

  • I'd make a cannon for it. Just because...

  • Hi Mauricio - it is a difficult task isn't it? We use templates and measuring calipers to check for accuracy during shaping, and then hone all working marks away. Accuracy at every step is very important.

I'd like to see your video. Please upload it and link it as a "reply" to "stone ball project"

  • @waterfountains this is a student's first (and likely the last!) ball - it is a stonemasonry hand skills training exercise. Students learn about the material, and different tools & techniques as required by industry training regulations. Students tell me they really feel they've achieved something when they've finished the exercise.

@lexusowner this Australian granite (known as 'Darwin Brown') is about 2.9 tonnes/cubic metre, and the finished 300mm diameter ball weighs about 40kg (88 pounds)

  • alot of work.. how much does it weigh?

  • This is the hard way and cannot produce a high precision sphere

  • I saw a granite ball 4 feet in diameter mounted in water like this one in a hotel in China. It was massive but spun like silk once you got it rolling

  • Very cool!

  • wow, how many hours did you spend in making 1 shiny ball?

  • that is a very cool project

  • I made such a lot and not to any spin, is too large relative to the bed or ovoid
