by the way!!! this track is from the "piano player" 7"ep and is the BEST of the two Futurisk records, though not as collectible as their first single for some bizarre reason. and all five tracks on this ep are phenomenal!!!
This version is much better. The drum beat on the Player Piano EP is a bit abrasive and clunky. This one has a much better sound to it, more danceable.
i think a D.A.F. type "thing" is definitely happening here, but a bit more on the "energetic" or "lively" side. not quite as "german" as D.A.F.(seeing as how D.A.F. were from germany, and Futurisk hailed from fla/roanoke)!!! anyhow, great early electro from a pioneering synth-punk group.
I can't believe these guys are from US.. It's so much England 1982... Anyway, what raises this band above a lot of the "new romantics" is that this band have a REAL good drummer.
Never heard of this band before, and i'm very interested in new wave, post punk, eighties electro and all that stuff... this one is just amazing, more than a lot of better known stuff. I'm impressed.
This song is ridiculously tight. Maybe because I played this version so many times before actually finding and buying a 7", but the sound on this video feels fuller to me, more refined, less angst-driven. Don't misunderstand me, I love the raw feel to the 7" version, but is an entirely different song. That synth solo is insane, no matter which way you run it. Is there a master for this video version? I'd underwrite a whole pressing just to have them both on the same slab of vinyl. Seriously.
HA! Found it! This recording can be found on the album "The Found Tapes" on the Minimal Wave label (MW009), released in 2007 on limitied edition vinyl.
much respect, I love Futurisk and bought the Found Tapes because of this track. Wish I could have Player Piano and Sound of Futurism too. You got a spare copy of them? =)
I remember reading a review of this band by Sam Rosenthal and he said they sounded like a mixture of The Cars, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, and Foreigner but Sam never knew WTF he was talking about. I bet that freaking Moog that the synth player has is worth a few bob today.
it is, he's my good friends dad, he plays 8bit now and he and a bunch of other 8bit guys released a 8bit kraftwerk cover album recently released by astralwerks. he does stuff under the name receptors now and i highly recommend it
I don't know but this band rocked! Did they once wear a mask like The Residents at one concert? A friend of mine saw them in concert once. I think the drummer was French because he was wearing a beret in one of the videos.
indeed.your friend is well informed my little space-troll...they did in fact one time wear plastic 6-mil-dollar-man halloween masks painted white with question marks on them, thus further muddling the legendary riddle 'who is the real Clark Humphrey?!'
Futurisk sounds a bit like a NYC group from the era called "Our Daughter's Funeral" aka ODF. They had a minor hit called "Pool Chairs." Sadly, Sam Rosenshine never heard of them so he just said Futurisk sounded like a mixture of the Cars and the Clash.
a real classic! :)

DAF and Futurisk were absolutely different bands - only the punk drums may be common
but Futurisk actually played Punkrock songs, while DAF were into mechanical dance loops. 'Co Co Pino' is almost proto-Techno

ksine, Hi Jeremy. It must feel a bit surreal seeing all these videos resurface on youtube after all these years, gathering a new following. ;-)
That is one thing I love with what we have now in remix culture, artists and listeners mixing together and enjoying the resulting mash.

So this is Jeremy Kolosine's band.. brilliant. That man is a genius. I really like his 8bit stuff. This song really rocks too.

Yes. I thought they were really The Residents when they played that gig. It really was a mystery.
