Oh dear! LOL! You MUST be excited...and it's perfectly understandable that you are. But, if Ed McMahon comes to your door...I mean...he DIED in 2009, so...
But if I were you, I'd take the check anyway! LOL
So glad to see your bees survived the winter ok! :-) It will be interesting to see how the "normal" hive compares to the other two over the coming winter to.
I wonder how bees manage to survive in hives since the hives aren't as well insulated as a fat dead tree or underground. Congrats on some surviving!! I have garter snakes in quantity in my garden. They burrow into the compost and keep mice to zero. Also great cricket and grasshopper control. :)
Sorry, I don't know what happened to my original comment. I am so glad one of your hives survived the winter. I've been praying that spring would bring better things your way. I truly enjoy your YouTube channel and have learned so much from you sharing your journey. God bless.
Glad your bees survived, as far as the garden snake it's cute your lucky it's not a poisonous snake. Here in Texas we have lots of rattlesnakes, and copperhead snakes. Many people mow their lawns, in big rubber boots . So if you see someone in Texas mowing their lawns in big rubber boots, doesn't mean they lost their minds just means they taking a precautionary measure, it might look silly but it's effective.
Must be nice not to worry about poisonous snakes, unlike here in the south. Congrats on the bees - I'm wanting to get started this year. Enjoying the video marathon! Have a great spring.
Thanks for the video I don't know much about bee's but I always wondered why the hives aren't covered in black material to absorb more heat in the winter
I've been trying to talk the hubby into bees! That's great the bees look good. Have you noticed your garden processing more veggies since you've gotten the bees?
So glad you have a live hive. We lost both of ours last year and when we went to order more bees from Brushy Mtn Bee Farm we were told they were sold out. If you don't mind, would you tell me where you ordered yours from? Is it through the mail? I miss my bees!
@Mrssoappeddler One of the fellows in our local Bee club drives down to Georgia two or three times each Spring and brings back everyone's order, so sorry -- I can't direct you to a mail-order source. There's also a couple of people within the club who offer queens and a few started hives if they have them every Spring. You know, if we don't / can't get a handle on what's killing off our bees, I imagine demand for packages of bees is going to get worse and worse every year.
Hello., love the video. i am in the Detroit area/Toledo Ohio area and was wondering what area in mi you were in if you don't mind saying. not asking for exact location, but it helps me to know what i might or might not be able to do i guess. i am glad you started to do more videos and i am loving them. if you don't reply i wont be upset. :D
@onetweetygirl71 We are in Western Michigan, not too far from Grand Rapids -- unfortunately (as it's the 2nd largest city in Michigan). Thanks for the nice comment -- it's always nice to hear someone enjoys or gets something out of one of my vids.
WhooHoooooo, So happy your bees wintered well. I didn't;- in the midsouth now,
no internet out in the boonies so have to come to town to use computer. Your videos give me so much faith in the human experience!! starting all over w/organic garden
learning how to cope w/rocks instead of sand. My book has been a real Godsend!! Blessings to you and yours.
Build a hoop house out there and put the hives in it over the winter. You can do it for about 150 to 200 dollars. Check out my channel and how I built mine!
@cfenster -- A hoop house is on my "I want!" list. I have all of Eliot Coleman's books on extending one's harvest season. Will have to check out what you did. Thanks for the comment.
@sterlingmccord , Where did your comment go? I got it in my e-mail box from youtube. I wonder if it got deleted because I made the vid private while I was editing it. . . . Hmmm. The mysteries of Youtube. Anyway, thank you for the prayers -- they worked!!! : ) I will be doing a hive autopsy video this week to see if we can't collectively figure out what went wrong with the other hive. I know I have experienced bee keepers within my subs who will hopefully advise. Stay tuned.
@cfenster No, they would be killed or booted out if they tried to enter the other hive because they would "smell" like the other queen. Now, there is a way to incorporate two weak hives together though -- you use newspaper between them and by the time they chew their way to each other, the pheornomes (spelling!) of the two queens will be co-mingled and they supposedly won't fight. However, the two queens will duke it out with the survivor (stronger) taking over for the combined hive.
fresh honey :)

I'm not the least bit surprised your bees prospered over the winter yet still thrilled for you and your successes. Congrats Renee.

@BexarPrepper Well, I used the term "dance" generously. It was probably more like a spastic fit of joy around the beehive. : )

Would the bees from other hive integrate into the live one if it were too cold in the dead one?
