i couldnt believe they didnt even dye martins hair for the role, he was supposed to be playing a younger clouseau. martin's performance was way too forced, i like geoff's preformance in this and the only other actor i think could have pulled off the role would have been Bruce Campbell.
I've saw this movie... Geoffrey Rush gave a brilliant tribute to Peter Sellers. Its a shame that Steve Martin could'nt realize how brilliant Peter was. In my opinion, Steve Martin just killed the Peter's work in Inspector Clouseau.
This movie did not give a well rounded portrayal of the man however - it made him look like a miserable selfish man, and though parts of that is true, he was more than that - the film was too one dimensional.
This was a bad movie. Hey it was rushed! I sawr it many times and concluded that it didnt capture the Sellers Spirit. The writers are American geeks, they think in abstracts. If you look at Sellers when he acts, he was genuine and well this whole film was a miss. Johnny Depp could play him, but it doesn't fit into his thing, he might be even too inspired by Sellers.
I never forget you Peter! I carry you in my heart. You know: I see so much the same in youre and my life. The tears, the drinks to get them away. Here is to you: the only chief inspector... PETER SELLERS.
It is a pretty good film of a terrible book. I've just finished reading it and it is a real bitchy negative drag. Geoffrey Rush is brilliant in it and so are the animated bits...could have done with more Goons, who were pretty badly cast...Hugh Dennis should have played Spike.
I reacted with disdain when i heard that Steve Martin was to be the new Clouseau in the remake of the Pink Panther. It just didnt seem right for many reasons and he had made a terrible Sgt Bilko. I refused to watch the movie for a long time but eventually did. Admittedly Martin wasnt that bad but if anyone had seen Geoffrey Rush in this superb portrayal the choice of a new Clouseau was a no brainer.
@dens85 I disagree. Geoffrey Rush is one of the best actors working today and the recent Pink Panther films are utter dross. Steve Martin shouldn't even be doing them, only he stopped caring about his films years ago
So this is an old movie, guys? When was it released? I´m a huge fan of Sellers and i´m desperate to see it. I´ve never heard of this movie before, can I find it on videostores already? Tks
This movie was done for HBO Films in 2004. I watched it last night by renting it via Netflix. Absolutely marvelous film, and Rush really captures Peter Sellers. The movie reminds us all of how great Sellers was, and how each of us have our own personal demons to battle.
I think this film showed to much of a dark side to the PS character, when non of the creators could honestly say they knew him, spoke to him etc, they needed to make a dark side to provide the conflict in the film and went too far with it, fair enough he probably had a few bad days, maybe loads! but i think this flick portrays him unfairly x
Buddy212002: I disagree. I think that this presentation was actually very reverential toward Sellars. Many geniuses were flawed personally: Einstein, Van Gough, Poe, Beethoven, etc. One of the greatest stars that ever lived, YES, but he was also human. Those closest to Peter knew him best, not us. I think its silly to call shame upon the people involved- they obviously love PS, and are in awe of this talented man.
Geoffrey Rush did Peter Sellers to a T. Conversely, it's not difficult to imagine Peter Sellers in Heaven (provided he got let in OK)entertaining all the departed by doing Captain Barbossa imitations.

This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. A complete trashing of one of the greatest stars that ever lived. Shame on everyone involved. Where was the empathy? Peter Sellers will be remembered this garbage will not.

Geoffrey Rush was incredible in this film. Just amazingly brilliant! People should see this film just for Geoffrey Rush.

Clouseau...made Sellers famous.
He was screwed up because he didn't know who he was.
