The sweeping sponsor billboard in the snow was the most perfect mesh of sight and sound I'd ever seen in a football game. The perfect winter football music.
I liked the way they came out of commercial breaks with the CBS Sports logo tilted on the top left. With the music, that was so beautiful. Just like 10 years ago already?
I wish somebody would post up the 2001-2002 version of the NFL on CBS theme. That's the best one. They play it a lot during WCBS-TV's Jets Preseason Football coverage.
This song can still be heard very briefly in NY. During the Jets game on CBS 2 there is a quick "Football is brought to you locally by...." promo with this music in the background.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Chiefs Television Network uses this theme. I heard it a night and a half ago. If we could only get a clear extended version or clear short versions.
I just feel like they tried to FOX-up their theme with the new Posthumus one. It is great, and I still get fired up, but this has that nice old time feel. It was different.
I liked this theme, too, and the nostalgia is nice, but come on - the current NFL on CBS theme is super intense and kicks major ass also. Sorry your Raiders have sucked the whole time the new one has been around, but that's not the theme song's fault. :-P They are both good in their own ways.
The best NFL theme song... Is their a way I can email CBS producers to bring back this theme song... It better than the current one.. It actually hype you up for a football game with the stadium and bunch of fans..
the snow bowl, remember it greatly, watched it with my dad, once the replay came on for the fumble/incomplete pass, we both knew that it would be called incomplete, and as they say the rest is history
I love this theme. This was the first song with its old version that I heard in 1998 when I was just beginning to watch football. Then they changed it when? in the 2001 season I think? I like today's too, but no other nfl on cbs theme will beat this one.
HAHA that's funny, Miami's "pressure defense". I don't think anyone in America was buying this game as an actual matchup. Everyone knew the Rams were the superior team and CBS just wanted an excuse to broadcast the greatest show on turf.
The Rams were so unbelievably dominant that year. I don't think the NFL saw another team that controlled both sides of the ball like the Rams until the 2007 Patriots.
the phins had a great defense led by Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Pat surtain, Sam Madison, Tim Bowens, etc. One of the top 5 defenses that year, the Rams though had a very good day at home and i dont believe lost a game in St. Louis that year
The Dolphins had a pattern of starting out hot and fading down the stretch, and the Rams were back to their superbowl form of 1999. I think everyone knew the Dolphins were overmatched.
i remember that rams game. i was in 7th grade when i saw it.
the rams had to onside kick the ball otherwise they would've lost. dre bly recovered it and the rams marched down the field to score. good game and almost good year for the rams (if they would've won the super bowl)
Probably the last time we will hear a piano in an NFL theme. And that's kinda sad, really. I still feel that this piano open caps off the best opening in modern NFL history. It will forever be the closest we get to NFL Films highlight music during an actual game.
By the way, for those asking, the original 1992 theme was simply called "Super Bowl" and was composed by Frankie Vinci.
As a NY Giants hater that result shocked me and I was so happy to see the Giants lose. It pisses me off they do well so much. I'm an Eagles fan from Northern NJ and those fair weather fans are very obnoxious.
Bring this theme back please. Even though I am no Rams fan seeing Warner coming out of the locker room to this theme as he is getting ready to play is inspiring. We need more class guys like Warner in the league.
Anybody who thinks that the present NFL on CBS theme is worth listening to needs to be spayed or neutered so that we dont have to endure the sheer stupidity that will surely ensue with the coming of their offspring...
:06 - :07 sends a shiver of nostalgia down my spine every time

Also, the last game that this was used in was the Raiders/Titans AFC title game. Ever since the Raiders have sucked.
