  • What great work...

  • its a bmw

  • @MrOranges1997

No, this replica does not have the original BMW.

  • what engine is it ?

  • Me 109 pilots would give their right cannon for a wheel track this wide.

  • I love the throaty sound of the BMW 801. Best radial engine in any WW2 fighter.

  • @pervertt

It's not a BMW 801. These replicas were built with different engines. Only one BMW is currently flying and its sound is more quiet, but still impressive.

  • @FiveCentsPlease Argh, you're right. Thanks for pointing it out. I didn't read the better informed comments first. Too good to be true, I thought I was hearing a 801.

  • Somebody shoot that limey

  • Beauty!!!

  • germany , has young people, like me,.... in america, born in 66, and im a ww2 guy, and regardless of what the leadership did, in germany, the planes, like my favorite fw-190 by kurt tank, represent german dudes, gals, riviting , and forming, and fabricating great stuff! most poeple think, airplanes come from a mold, those of us that rivit them together know the many many man hours it takes to actually make a plane

  • is das lecker? ganz besonders am ende, ganz lecker!

  • Swastikas are forbidden in Germany, thats all to know now. Dont ask stupid questions anymore

  • the line going down gradually from top of the cabin to the tail, which makes the body disminish thinner, compared with messerchmit's heavy back, that's the reason i prefer fw-190 to messerschmit's ! :)

  • hmm.. strange looking take off without a tail coming up the runway.

  • I want one...

  • Fantastic - the 'Butcher Bird' has a real air of menace about it in flight - Good job!

  • It doesn't sound like the original BMW radial. What kind of engine is built in?

  • @rockithoney

It's not. This is the prototype of eventually 20 new-build Fw190s using a Russian/Chinese ASh-82 14-cylinder radial. It's a very close match in size and power output as the original BMW, which are extremely rare. This was a German project to create a more affordable high-performance warbird for buyers (easier to insure and easier to service.) Also, two original WWII Fw190s are nearing the end of complete restorations and will fly with original BMWs soon.

  • @FiveCentsPlease that will be definitely a blast. You will post videos of those, too? I am not an engine freak, but I had a different radial sound of original fw190 movies in mind.

  • its called FW-190, not Fw-190.

it stands for FlugWerke, not Focke-Wulf

  • I assume it's been flown "clean" by now, unless that was its only flight. That would be awesome to see. The FW190 was my favorite enemy plane of all time.

  • @niflap

Yes, this test flight was years ago. This is one of 20 replica Fw190s and several are already flying with buyers. 2 or 3 examples have been converted to Fw190D-9 standard but none are flying yet. (One was fitted with an Allison V12 but never flew.) Now the D-9s are awaiting rebuilds of the correct Jumo 213 engines, which will take some time to complete.

  • How did it fly?

  • Why doesn't it retract its fucking wheels?

  • @camrober

It's an early test flight, like the video title says. The gear is one less thing to worry about if something else goes wrong. Also during the project they needed to do some redesign work on the emergency release for the gear, so perhaps they were leaving it down and locked.

  • I say the swastika should be allowed, just ban religion, Palin, Beck, Muslims, anyone having children in a cycle of poverty, et al and nazis', shoot all like that!

  • I'VE SEEN AT SEVERAL AIRSHOWS GERMAN AIRCRAFT WITH THAT BEAUTIFUL MARKING ON THEM..SO I BELIEVE THE GERMANS ARE TOLERANT IN SOME INSTANCES

  • where's the swastika......you want an accurate aircraft..put it on..it was both a military..and political symbol.....only later did it become a hate symbol

  • @1942PANTHERV - Enter "§ 86a StGB" into your search engine of choice or read comments below...it's been asked and answered multiple times before.

  • @TsurugiJiri

Symbols are against the law? Germans think symbols are dangerous? Germans don't change much do they?

  • @Silveracity Shure, because symbols and flags an stuff like that don't mean a thing. I would like to test that theory and put a russian or north vietnamese flag on the flagpole of the white house. I think they wouldn't care.

  • @1942PANTHERV

i agree with you i really hate how they do that politically incorrectness/ but at the same time i think these guys might be german ...and they do not like the nazi party (stating obvious i know) so thats why they do not put it on

  • @Sumer61 I'LL TELL YOU SOMETHING....I HAVE NO HAVE FOR THE GERMANS....OF WW 2....YES 6 MILLION JEWS DIED..BUT EVERYONE KINDA FORGETS THE RUSSIANS OUT DID THE GERMANS...10 FOLD..TO THIER OWN AND E EUROPEAN PEOPLE.....BUT I DIGRESS....I HAVE A REPO GERMAN SS CAP..WITH THAT LOVELY LITTLE EAGLE AND SYMBOL ON IT....AND THOUGH THE BAND THAT GOES AROUND AROUND IT COVERS IT UP..I GET ALOT OF COMPLIMENTS ON IT....ESP FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT IT IS...I DON'T THINK OF IT AS A HATE SYMBOL...

  • @Sumer61 IT'S JUST A MILITARY SYMBOL THAT MANY MEN DIED FOR....AND I KINDA WISH THE GERMAN MILITARY WOULD GET A LITTLE BIT OF THAT NO BS ATTITUDE BACK....LIBERALISM WILL DESTROY THIER COUNTRY

  • @1942PANTHERV It's illegal to display a swastika in Germany.

  • @lightning1975 germany should stop being such a pansy about its history....be proud of the men who served with honor and dignity....to many the swastika was a badge of honor..not hate

  • cool vid!

  • This baby has a star-engine :D Lovely peice of machinery!

  • jafühl mich irgendwie allein..:( will einer mit mir schreiben hab auch bilder und so

  • @ FiveCentsPlease

I am sure for the Daimler Benz 605 engines, because there are many Messerschmitts with this engine - the original - that are flyable. Somewhere on the internet I read that one or two BMW engines are in use, and I would like to know more about that,

  • Russian engines..... seems to be something like a Svetsov engine, the on that Lavochkins had.

Are there any BMW engines that work? I am sure the sound will be amazing. The Focke Wulf needs it's engine.....

  • There are a couple of airworthy restorations that are using the original BMW. But those engines are extremely rare to find for an airworthy rebuild. Twenty years ago, the first DB605 engines were coming back to life, so now the BMWs will have a chance to be heard again.

  • When are they gonna show the FW-190 with the wheels retracted?

  • I love WWII Fighters !

  • congratulations !!!

    very good

  • According to wikipedia, the ASh-82FN has it's takeoff power rated at 1650 HP and the BMW 801D at 1677 HP, so the power output is pretty much the same.

  • I read so many airplane magazine how this one escaped me! I am so thrilled to see an FW 190 in the air again! I bet the test pilot loves to add this to his log book! Thanks for posting this video. Now I know what a FW engine sounds like! :-)

  • theres a new chinese radial engine in it . not the original build engine.

  • russian, not chinese

  • Chinese built under license ASh-8FN14 Russian radial which was originaly built under license from the US Wright Cyclone Engine way way back. Made in China now just like everything these days.

  • aah, k thnx, didn't know that. Confusing...

  • @23vin850 I suppose that original engine must be a bit unreliable for operation after 70 years

  • @GR8TM4N

Original engines are extremely rare, then you have the added costs of rebuilding it, finding or making any missing parts and getting enough spare parts to keep it running. And maybe locating a second engine to use as a spare also. Replacing the engine was primarily a cost decision. A couple of originals will be in the air soon, but there will be a learning phase since they haven't been operated in the air since the end of the war.

  • BMW BABY YUMMIE

  • Comment removed

  • this is madness :D

  • This isnt a authentic FW190 is it? Landing gear are missing the wheel covers BTW

  • It's pretty much an exact replica

  • @dwb345 it is an almost exact replica:the engine being different,it's covering differs a little.plus the landing gear panels seem to be missing the wheel part.

i would anyways give a years salary to be given the oppportunity to fly this beaut

  • I just love seeing old warbirds brought back to life, moreover the people that restore these aircraft are keeping history alive for future generations.

  • yeah that sound is great! I wonder why they never retracted the gear though.

  • Test flight... they usually have thier reasons i'm not sure ^^

  • you wouldnt want to retract the gear and not be able to get it back down if its the first test flight your just making sure that the instrament and engine are working right just got to take it one step at a time

  • standard form for early test flights of any model. one thing at a time. let's make sure the thing flies, the engine doesn't burst into flame or the wings come off... then we can worry about whether the landing gear will come up.

  • ... at which point, we will start worrying about whether we can get it back down again.

  • lol.. yeah, thats kinda what i suspected. even though it probably has an emergency hand crank, or maybe even some kind of pressured emergency crap, im sure they have a lot more to worry or think about

  • as soon as you leave the pattern haha

  • You'll see that with just about all aircraft which are being tested.

  • i know, the sound scared people in the WW2 ... but now i enjoy it.

    great.

  • I knew Europeans that when hearing this noise they sat down in a corner with both their arms over their head. These people were kids by that time but the trauma remain with them all along their lives.

For me that BMW makes music!

  • i just can say that i like it :D

  • Beautifull maschine !

  • sweet!!! I want one!!! engine sounds beastly, gotta love the raidals

  • What are you guys complaining about the low rpm sound ? Radials are supposed to sound like that . Awesome !

  • The in The F8/N used engine ASch82T is nearly the same as the bmw801 so the sound has to be too

and how will u know the original sound? There isn´t any original fw190 flying nearly 60 yearsU can give a shit on the sound of the old vids.

The Flug Werk 190 is 98% original only some advantages were made ( example the tank ) The preformance is similar . The plane hasnt any armory or weaponary

When i´m informed correctly costs are close above 1 million € and there r still some to buy 16 build

  • is the engine of la-7¿? Shvetsov ASh-82FN ¿?

  • yes, russian copy of the engine.

  • i like this sound:)

  • this engine is the original bmw 801 d-2¿?

  • nice plane but historically incorrect.where is the swastika on the tail fin?

  • This is in Germany and they dont allow the swastika to be seen, I cant say I blame them.

  • you got a problem with chinese people?

  • do you have ears? You can't honestly tell me this engine sounds nice. It's a poorly built substitute for the authentic german engine. This has nothing to do with who built the engine, this has everything wiith the final result.

And in case you are not aware, the chinese do have a reputation for poor build quality. This is a prime example, find WWII videos of airplanes, they sound a heck of a lot better and they were built over 50 years ago, guess the chinese have yet to match their skill.

  • Chinese people back then had pretty bad quality stuff, but in modern times, china is one of the mostsadvanced nations in the world, i am Chinese Canadian and i am annoyed by those people that believe in the stereotype that all Chinese are cheap idiots that sell fruits in a fruit stand or something like that.

  • Do you think that selling fruits is idiotic and cheap

or what bullshit are you telling?

In my ear the engine souds fine but china is still producing quite a lot of crap.

  • @dna1101 China advanced ? So, you're telling me they can build a 14 cylinder radial engine that's almost as good as the real thing but the tacky Nokia N95 Chinese copies for sale on Fleabay never work properly !

  • @audimanpov agree 100% man. they can never make something that doesnt break in the first 3 months. i avoid chinese made products as much as possible. unless you guys want cancers of all types, dont use anything that's from china.

  • @TheCherokeeboy They can make some pretty decent guitars when they want to, NOT ALL, but some.

  • Bang on the money, if I was spending all the $ on a beast such as this it sure wouldnt be getting no chinkalooey donkey in it, ya might as well biff a lada engine in an evo 6.5.

  • @1wittman ..... Ain't that the truth bro, I've heard the BMW engine and it sounds miles better than this crock !!!

  • @audimanpov

Where have you heard a BMW 801 running? A static display engine? The last BMW engine runs for an aircraft may have been in the 1970s or early 80s when the RAF Hendon Fw190 was started. It has not been run since. At any rate, it will probably sound similar to this 14-cylinder engine (as does the R-2600 from the B-25.)

  • All radials sound pretty terrible on low rpms. Notice it sounded nice and smooth at speed. Nothing wrong with the engine. . .just a radial is all.

  • random racism ftw? China builds its own military-grade jet engines now not low-tech radials to power WW2 rebuilds.

  • it's not racism, just go to a fly-in and listen to some old p-47's or corsairs. Even an old beaver sounds better. And if you look at some old wwii vids of the FW-190 it's very different too.

  • Let's assume that after all of the engineering, financial investment, and over 10 years in the making, FlugWerk would not bet their reputation and flagship product (this Fw190) on a "crappy" engine. This engine was chosen because it's plentiful in supply terms and has a similar weight and power output as the original BMW.

  • I would like to thank you for a proper reply.

  • fantastic

  • Can't this plane put the wheels into the wings?

  • Apparently this is an "early flight test" and often landing gear is left down for safety reasons. (one less thing to worry about )

  • only my wish D9 OR TA 152 H NOW THATS A PLANE.

    TJ

  • Which engine was used? BMW? Junkers? The swastika does not have a good conotation, but every Germaan plane had one in WW II. To not have one on the FW is silly.

  • Please read earlier comments before posting. To wit, the engine is a Communist Chinese knock-off of a Soviet engine that in turn was based on an American design. As to your second comment, the aircraft cannot wear the original tail markings inside Germany because Section 86a of the German Criminal Code (Strafgesetzbuch, StGB) prohibits the use of the National Socialist Party's co-opted symbology, with a three year prison term for violators.

  • I dont know what all that talking is about, the Messerschmitts and the Foke Wulfs are all not original. The Messerschmitts were licenced build and therefore ther are some more frames and bellies. The FockeWulf never was licenced build and therefore all of the frame is a replica. and the engine question is dificult for the Messerschmitt cause the DB 60X are very rare. Much more rare are the BMW and Jumo (D9) engines. So this is a lookalike and no swastika is needed to be printed upon the tail.

  • It is illegal to display a swastika in some European countries, including Germany (museum displays may be excluded.) This is a test flight of a new-build aircraft in Germany, so no swastika.

  • Ahem.. I think they're something missing from the tail ;)

  • I mean "there's" not "they're". Typo.

  • so originaly would have been a bmw engine? alison, american made??

  • probably changed his throttle setting

  • fw-190 rules!

  • Love this plane! TsurugiJiri,thanks!

  • I believe there is only one BMW801 in working condition and resides in Texas. No clue anywhere of the powerplant type under the cowl.

  • Click "view all comments", read reply to first comment, obtain enlightenment. Flug Werk also completed a Fw 190D-9/N "Langnasen Dora" with an Allison V-1710, see their website for info and photos, including General Günther Rall showing off his signature of approval on the fuselage!

  • you could be more cordial and thank you for the enlightment. I had forgotten some pilots landed in Russia and they in turn got all they needed to copy the engine.

  • Cool vid. Look pretty awesome even with the wheels down. I do believe this is a replica? And the engine? Pure Germans finest or USA? Good to know there is an 190er taking to the sky once more...

  • The tailwheel assembly is original wartime manufacture, the rest is new built. As to the engine, thats Option #3: Communist Chinese. And both of these questions have been answered previously, if you'd have cared to read the previous comments.

  • If I had that, the FAA would ground me in a heartbeat after I buzzed this shit out of every boat on the lake near me.

  • This would bring tears to my father's ( RIP 1997 ) eyes. He was a Focke-Wulf engineer. He told me everytime Gen Galland would visit the office, he always took a 190 for a spin. G's favorite mount was the Dora model. Galland liked to perform airshows for the engineers and his favorite maneuver was a high speed pass, upside down followed by a split s with a flare out and gear deployment at touch down height. My father said he was an " engel " pilot

  • Is this a real radial engine or a flat six that doest run good at idle ? And where is this thing in operation ?

  • Why he won't retract the gear?

  • It's pretty standard procedure to test fly a new plane with it's gear down, in case there's a system failure.

  • They need to get Me 109 Black 6 back in the air where it belongs along with this FW 190...what a beautiful picture this would make!!!

    WW2 FIGHTERS FOREVER.Gives me a woody.

  • The 190 was in my opinion, one of the greatest fighters of world war 2.

    Herr Tank did well.

  • The sound is amazing!

  • What a beautiful sound the 190 engine has...

  • Truly!!

  • Well this is news to me...I didn't know there was a FW-190 flying now. I know that there is a Me-262 and MiG-3 that are now flying. This is good news, keep it up and make history come alive again. I hope to see this bird at an airshow sometime :-)

  • "As stated in the video's description, its some chinese engine featured"...

    Where???

This aircraft, WNr8900001, D-FWWC is shown on maiden test flight, 22 July 2004.

Powerplant of this aircraft is 1,400 kW (1,877 hp) ASh-82 FN 14 cylinder double row radial engine, a russian version of BMW 801D.

  • Where? Stated in my reply to the first comment, 9 months ago. Also, the Shvetsov ASh-82 isn't a "Russian version" of the BMW 801-series, but rather a developement of earlier Shvetsov ASh-62 that was, in turn, derived from a license-built version of the Wright R-1820 Cyclone 9.

  • As stated in the video's description, its some chinese engine featured.

Keep your hopes up, fine folks, as a 190F8 is being restored as I am typing this.. with an actual BMW 801! The aircraft is 'White 1' and all the details can be found at white1foundation [dot] org

    Blue skies!

  • Also in Kissimmee, Florida, where the "White 1" project you mentioned resides, the Allison-engined D-9 kit "Black 12" has undergone engine runs. See the Fw 190 Wikipedia page for a video link.

  • this is definitly not a BMW801D engine, this sound is crap compared to the real engine sound of this monster

  • That engine sounds different to a typical merlin or a bf109 for example. It doesn't sound like it's revving as high.

  • Apparently this is not a BMW 801 but some chinese engine.

  • I'm pretty sure it's a Russian Shvetsov Ash-82 Radial.

Would be better if it was a BMW801 though...i agree.

  • A 14-cylinder air-cooled radial as opposed to the liquid-cooled V-12 Merlin and DB 600-series engines. At any rate, with 1,700hp in a lightly-loaded aircraft, one hardly needs "War Emergency Power" (or "Erhöhte Notleistung", as the case may be) for a "run 'round the block".

  • verry nice vidio, how come he did not close the landing gears?

  • When testing new prototypes and/or reconstructed aircraft. The first few flights are condcuted with landing gear down, incase of a quick landing due to possible malfunctions.

  • that was great......

  • i could listen to vintage warbirds fly by allll day long

  • It is not a vintage warbird

  • how is this "not" a vintage warbird?

  • It is a entirely new build aircraft.take a look at the first comments, the poster of the video gives a detailed explanation of the whole thing.Great though, no ?

    Cheers.

  • landing gear anyone? >_>

  • Yeah the gear needs more covering.

  • He just wanted to show off how sexy them legs are.

  • Games devolopers need to take this sound and imply it! Nice vid. Ta.

  • Did you tried IL 2 sturmovik 1946? The sound is pretty similar. the best simulation ever. NIce FW 190 missions

  • Well yeah I play IL2-46 all the time and NO they dont have the most accerate sounds! MS Combat FS3 has to be honest.

Yeah IL2 is awesome but the sounds suck tbh!

  • Amazing!

  • By the way,Amazing sound!!!!!!!!!!

  • I read that theres one Flug Werk at Duxford England,I would love to see dogfighting a Spitfire above a cheering crowd at Duxford.

  • grazyarnie said it!

  • becaue there are no flying examples left...and Flugwerk has not the capabilities to build them in series...

  • Flugwerk originally built 12 new Fw-190 airframes. This production number has since been increased to 20 aircraft. None have begun flying in airshows and their buyers are still doing final assembly. One finished example is in the UK awaiting paperwork and approval from the CAA before flight testing.

  • sorry...I thought they use original parts...for the building of the bird..I saw on their homepage how they manufacture it...maybe they have capacities left...but I estimate a long delivery-time...

  • The first batch of aircraft do feature original, refurbished wartime tail wheel assemblies that were discovered in storage--perhaps to give the aircraft some heritage. And I'm assuming there may be some original components in the cockpit or instruments.

  • should be no problem for the bird...Germans are pretty tolerant when it comes to original or vintage...Germany even accepts that bogus Dresden Fraunkirche...so I see no need in original parts...the mainthing is...it looks equal...and in case of the plane...it flies equal and maybe sound equal at least at a great percentage.

  • I´ve read something about 500.000 EUROS. But unfortunately you´ll never get the chance to buy a Fw-190 even if you have the money!

  • Ich möchte, dass ein! Ich liebe deutsche Flugzeuge. So schlimm kommt es auch nicht mehr mit einem BMW-Motor. Gibt es keine Videos mehr von dieser neuen FW190s?

  • how soon brfore one of these birds is at reno in the unlimited class?

  • Schade daß das Fahrwerk draußen bleibt..naja Erstflug-Regeln in Deutschland...aber wie erwähnt sie fliegt doch...warum keine Fahrwerk-oben Flüge....

Its a pity that the gear is down during the flight.....okay german first-test flight regulations...but as said in the movie the bird flies....so why not do a gear up---flight....

Die FW 190 ist eine Klasse für sich...toller Vogel

The FW 190 is a class of its own..great bird

    thx for the video

  • Ich hab gerade gesehem...die FW 190 Replik ist bereits mit eingezogenem Fahrwerk geflogen...leider noch kein movie bei Youtube oder sonst wo

I just saw...the FW 190 replic already flew gear up....unfortunatly no video yet on youtube or elsewhere.....

wie auch immer...Danke für die Mühe diesen Vogel zum Fliegen zu bringen

anyhow....thanks for your hard work to get these bird airborn again...

  • owh!I want one!

    :)

    beaut!

  • haben will... seuftz

    want it ....

  • They engine sounds like a machine gun!

  • Thats a great plane is it a total rebuild or new air frame and is that its real engine is it an A5 please give us some info

  • This aircraft is a Fw 190A-8/N ("Nachbau", "replica") entirely new built in Germany by Flug Werk GmbH. It is powered by a Chinese license-built copy of the Shvetsov ASh-82 radial, itself a "development" of earlier American engines. Flug Werk current projects include a rebuild of an original Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-9, new build versions of the Bücker Bü 131 "Jungmann" trainer, a new "Langnase Dora" ("Longnose" Fw 190D-9), and P-51 parts production. See flugewerk(dot)de for info and photos.

  • Was this a limited / one time build? Or are they being marketed for sale being that it is new built...

  • There were originally 12 to be built in complete or kit form, but this has apparently now been extended to a production run of 20. Many of these have already been delivered, and some of the aircraft regularly attend air shows in Europe. Currently, their main project is a new version of the kit to emulate the Fw 190D-9. Check out the Flug Werk website, it's bilingually presented in German and English.

  • Oops, that's flugwerk(dot)de. Sorry.
