I was given a few budgies that had really bad breeding. The mom looked good but passed really bad genes. I had three of her babies in the end and all three died. All had liver development problems. One had mental development problems, one had feather and other development problems and one had all around development problems and lived 9 weeks.
Ironiclywhat makes them so dangerous in the wild, makes them relativly safe to deal with indoors on a table. They tend to just sit and hiss and stay in defence mode.I presented one to a class for an instruction in animal husbandry of venomous snakes, just keep your hands out of strike range,360 degrees around its head.DO NOTattempt this with most big elapids, cobras, mambas, kraits, the same dosnt apply to these snakes.
@bundywundy666 I found out they are not puff adders but everyone calls them that. they are hog nosed snakes that puff up and hiss. They are related to puff adders but are not venomous.
@mojoganjamaster420 I drink myself, and no small amount; that is exactly why I most emphatically do *not* have hobbies such as these. I cannot imagine that puff adders and alcohol can be a good combination.
If one must do "stupid" things, at least do them in smart ways.
The truth is that most want a venomous snake as a trophy to show to their friends and I don't have a problem with that. It is the reason I would want a venomous snake and that is the truth. What I do think though is that if you are going to adopt any animal you should make sure that the animal has the correct setup so it will have a happy and healthy life. If you can't keep the snake properly then don't buy it at all.
My boyfriend really wants hots... i myself really admire them, but frankly I'd rather have a loaded AK47 sitting on my kitchen table than a venomous snake in my house... I've heard too many horror stories. A psychotic Amazon or Emerald Tree boa is my limit for dangerous snakes, lol.
You'd have to be a nut to keep puff adders, cobras, rattlesnakes, etc. I just admire them from a distance- like on tv or at the zoo. If I see a rattle snake in the wild, I keep my distance and give it pleny of room.
eastern diamond backs in my property, they are so numerous I kill at least two each day I go, when i get there they are agressive they come right into the camp hissing and looking to bite someone there not your typical 4 foot one s you see on Discovery , they are as fat as your ms Semolia and 6 foot ! they seem to hang in pairs and dont like my being there and never rattle they just seem to wait for us to show ,, how safe are those 15 '' snake boots?
Get a Taurus Judge, a revolver that can handle a .410 shot shell. I like snakes & have 2 red tail boas as pets but when I'm outdoors with the wife and kids camping it has come in very effective a few times taking care of some rattlers we have in our area.
I have to agree, regardless of your experience and knowledge of these snakes, you need to have someone else film while you're doing anything with these hot snakes, paticularlly when you have 1 or more out loose and you should know that as a snake-keeper.
The irony? The entire time the camera shows a box of plastic sandwich bags with the large brand name on it. The brand name? "GoodSense". Now THAT"S ironic.
I am sorry Mr. Viperkeeper, but you made me nervous, and there was a bit of irony in that video. #1 - you keep puff adders (as in plural). #2 - that's a very confined area. #3 - you are handling puff adders (again plural) and trying to be a cameraman and commentator. I do not think it wise to 'multi-task' within reach of a puff adder. #4 - when you switched snakes, you left the cage door open. (Irony in 2nd post, orig. was over the limit.)
Good on you for doing this job and rehabing these guys. I would LOVE to go "hot" but I know that 1) I am not skilled enough, 2) I do not have the money, 3) I do not live where I could.
I have taken in and rehabed non-venomous snakes but that is as far as I can go.
I have a question. A while ago I saw a nature show where a guy went around this rocky area and uncovered rocks to expose these small VERY nasty snakes. He was collecting them to move them to less populated areas since people are often bitten by them accidentally. My dad said it was in Ethiopia. Do you know what these snakes may have been? I thought I remembered them being rattlesnakes, but they were most definitely some kind of vipers. Small, nasty, rapid continual upward striking.
Sure, those are sawscale vipers (Echis sp). Which kill mosre people in Africa than all the other venomous snakes combined. I keep a bunch, so I have videos out in my catalog. Thanks for the good question.
dont u think they might be pigmy rattlesnakes ???? I dont know if they are present in ethiopia but maybe he got the country wrong ..... just a suggestion,,,,

One correction Puff adder venom Is Cytotoxic not haemotoxic with cytotoxic properties
You should show how fast a puff adder strikes! It surely is the fastest striker in the world. They recon it can strike a balloon twice before it bursts.
We used to catch them when we were kids, until my friend got bitten. When people killed them I used to skin them.
Longest skin was 1m 20cm but ive heard of bigger ones.
Excellent videos you have about these amazing snakes. You must have steel in your balls because I could never handle them like you, I'd be way too scared LOL!!!
I really love your Puff Adders and all the videos you have with them, their attitude makes them very interesting! The difference in Channing and Somali really shows their personalities. Which Puff Adder is in "More Fun With Puff Adders"? The one jumping out of the tub you were trying to put him/her in. I never caught the name. It was really fun watching that beasty from the safety of youtube =P
Hey al, you may not care but maybe you will but I was in class today and a plump girl sits next to me and she always gets up to blow her nose and when she comes back she huffs and puffs and it reminded me of you and your puff adders lol.
How many puff adders do you have in your collection now?
Ms Somali really behaves well in that shot, or maybe she was just pretending in order to get a chance to nail you?
Last this year some dude in my home country was bit by his puff adder because the hook just broke apart (must have been some crap) and the snake nailed his hand. He survived though, without even having to amputate anything so I suppose he was just dumb lucky.
I once kept a puff adder that had the same thing going on with her eye.I found her dead one day and I assumed that to be the cause.I'm keeping a canebrake you'd like,it has blue and grey coloring
I find it very difficult to say snakes are "aggressive" I think "defensive" is the correct term. I think they are only agressive when it comes to feeding.
hey buddy i have a weird question for you, so here it is, what would be the reason for a snake to only flicker its tounge down? i know you dont deal with pythons anymore but, i collect venomus and non, and resantly got a male spider morph ball, witch only flickers his tounge down, ive never seen this before and no one can give me a reason, hes healthy proper weight, no parisites or physical defects that i can see? its the strangest thing? have you ever seen this before in any other specices?
No, I have no idea and seldom she this sort of tongue action. It just may be she is leaving her tongue out longer to collect more information since her eye is not working well...just my 2 cents
Spiders balls are known to have neurological problems, although what you describe doesn't seem like it would have any negative side effect, and probably is just the way this particular snake does things...Oh and yet another great video Al
