  • @ viperkeeper, I am guessing you don't have many enemies ;)

  • I was given a few budgies that had really bad breeding. The mom looked good but passed really bad genes. I had three of her babies in the end and all three died. All had liver development problems. One had mental development problems, one had feather and other development problems and one had all around development problems and lived 9 weeks.

  • Ironiclywhat makes them so dangerous in the wild, makes them relativly safe to deal with indoors on a table. They tend to just sit and hiss and stay in defence mode.I presented one to a class for an instruction in animal husbandry of venomous snakes, just keep your hands out of strike range,360 degrees around its head.DO NOTattempt this with most big elapids, cobras, mambas, kraits, the same dosnt apply to these snakes.

  • We have Puff Adders all over Michigan and I don't think they are toxic at all. Is that correct?

  • @CMink7777 You could not be more wrong if you tried.

  • @bundywundy666 I found out they are not puff adders but everyone calls them that. they are hog nosed snakes that puff up and hiss. They are related to puff adders but are not venomous.

  • @CMink7777 no, we dont have puff adders in usa

  • i ran into a rattlesnake at my buddies house, his dad proceeded to shoot it:(

  • she's a beautiful snake. i hope she'll be okay.

  • 2:17 I luv his tongue! XD He sticks it out for 10secs and then he sticks it back in!

  • What's the farthest you've ever thrown a snake?

  • Thank you for this video! I'm doing to South Africa in a few months and I wanted to know what these little beauties looked like so I can stay away :)

  • Have you ever got bitten by any of your snakes?

  • Have you ever got bitten by any of your snakes?

  • I'd have to get so drunk before I could handle these girls. i mean i like bein a lil faded even when I'm handling my ball python, or my Anaconda

  • @mojoganjamaster420 That's a good way to get yourself killed :P

  • @mojoganjamaster420 I drink myself, and no small amount; that is exactly why I most emphatically do *not* have hobbies such as these. I cannot imagine that puff adders and alcohol can be a good combination.

If one must do "stupid" things, at least do them in smart ways.

  • It crazy how much they look like Acanthophis!

  • can u de vein em for pets

  • I enjoy VK's videos. Actual information being passed on versus "look how cool this venomous snake is" videos that litter YT

  • The truth is that most want a venomous snake as a trophy to show to their friends and I don't have a problem with that. It is the reason I would want a venomous snake and that is the truth. What I do think though is that if you are going to adopt any animal you should make sure that the animal has the correct setup so it will have a happy and healthy life. If you can't keep the snake properly then don't buy it at all.

  • a good training snake for keeping hot species is a really angry pine snake or a large hognose.

  • beautiful i love them

:) i want a snake but i prefer the more social ones ones that will love you :) but i love all snakes i think they are beautiful and amazing

  • My boyfriend really wants hots... i myself really admire them, but frankly I'd rather have a loaded AK47 sitting on my kitchen table than a venomous snake in my house... I've heard too many horror stories. A psychotic Amazon or Emerald Tree boa is my limit for dangerous snakes, lol.

  • You'd have to be a nut to keep puff adders, cobras, rattlesnakes, etc. I just admire them from a distance- like on tv or at the zoo. If I see a rattle snake in the wild, I keep my distance and give it pleny of room.

  • Mr Viper keeper I have tons of

eastern diamond backs in my property, they are so numerous I kill at least two each day I go, when i get there they are agressive they come right into the camp hissing and looking to bite someone there not your typical 4 foot one s you see on Discovery , they are as fat as your ms Semolia and 6 foot ! they seem to hang in pairs and dont like my being there and never rattle they just seem to wait for us to show ,, how safe are those 15 '' snake boots?

  • Nothing work 100% of the time

  • Get a Taurus Judge, a revolver that can handle a .410 shot shell. I like snakes & have 2 red tail boas as pets but when I'm outdoors with the wife and kids camping it has come in very effective a few times taking care of some rattlers we have in our area.

  • Yah, Sure. The snakes are collaborating while you're gone and planning their next attack on you when you return. Give me a break.

  • @WELLGURU you murderer :'(. those snakes have a more right to enherat this earth than you

  • I have to agree, regardless of your experience and knowledge of these snakes, you need to have someone else film while you're doing anything with these hot snakes, paticularlly when you have 1 or more out loose and you should know that as a snake-keeper.

  • The irony? The entire time the camera shows a box of plastic sandwich bags with the large brand name on it. The brand name? "GoodSense". Now THAT"S ironic.

  • I am sorry Mr. Viperkeeper, but you made me nervous, and there was a bit of irony in that video. #1 - you keep puff adders (as in plural). #2 - that's a very confined area. #3 - you are handling puff adders (again plural) and trying to be a cameraman and commentator. I do not think it wise to 'multi-task' within reach of a puff adder. #4 - when you switched snakes, you left the cage door open. (Irony in 2nd post, orig. was over the limit.)

  • Hi Viperkeeper! How do you euthanize your snakes?

  • I use Co2

  • love that name "KillJesus" thats Fuckin awesome

  • interesting question. I do so by getting in my car and running them over, shifting into reverse and running over them again.

  • what other kinds of snakes do you have?

  • There're 250 videos to pick from

  • What species is Ms. Channing?

  • How did Ms. Channing get that blown up eye?

  • Congenital problem

  • snakes scare me lol, dont see how you can do this job!

  • Our Government scares me!

  • Good on you for doing this job and rehabing these guys. I would LOVE to go "hot" but I know that 1) I am not skilled enough, 2) I do not have the money, 3) I do not live where I could.

I have taken in and rehabed non-venomous snakes but that is as far as I can go.

  • Well yeah...it comes with a price.

  • have you been bit by a puff adder

  • no, have you?

  • Is it true that The Puff Adders Venom causes Decay to the Body if not Treated??

I know the medical term is Nercosis or somthing like that..

  • You are correct. You may hear me call it "finger rot"

  • What's the snake's name. I can't spell the name.

  • Miss Channing or Miss Somali

  • ok im just wondering and all of your vipers still venomus?

  • Yes, every snake in my collection are as God intended.

  • that must be a very dangerous job or hobby

  • Less dangerous than going to North Philadelphia , Newark or Camden NJ

  • Has Somalica bitten you?

Miss Channing seams like a nice Puff Adder. What could have caused her eye to get puffed up?

Also, how is Miss Channing doing?

  • The duct that drains the fluid in the eye is blocked, that's why her eye is puffed out. She is fine.

  • I have a question. A while ago I saw a nature show where a guy went around this rocky area and uncovered rocks to expose these small VERY nasty snakes. He was collecting them to move them to less populated areas since people are often bitten by them accidentally. My dad said it was in Ethiopia. Do you know what these snakes may have been? I thought I remembered them being rattlesnakes, but they were most definitely some kind of vipers. Small, nasty, rapid continual upward striking.

  • Sure, those are sawscale vipers (Echis sp). Which kill mosre people in Africa than all the other venomous snakes combined. I keep a bunch, so I have videos out in my catalog. Thanks for the good question.

    VK

  • dont u think they might be pigmy rattlesnakes ???? I dont know if they are present in ethiopia but maybe he got the country wrong ..... just a suggestion,,,,

  • Ive been watching your vids for about a year.Ive had a love for and handled snakes all my life. However the non vem varity.I live in lower michigan and have 40 acres where you can hop skipand jump through the tall grass and woods without a worry.Keep up the good work Ive learned quite a bit through you.

  • does her bad eye hurt it? :/

  • I ask but she never complains, guess she's made of tough stuff.

  • Cool snakes!

  • Howdy from CapeTown

Just wathed the vid .I caught twelve large puff adders recently in three weeks during a warm spell in mid winter . there were loads of the buggers and a really good sign is there were plenty of very young ones around too the little guys are really agro

One correction Puff adder venom Is Cytotoxic not haemotoxic with cytotoxic properties

    have fun

never turn your back on a puff adder

    Doug

  • You should show how fast a puff adder strikes! It surely is the fastest striker in the world. They recon it can strike a balloon twice before it bursts.

We used to catch them when we were kids, until my friend got bitten. When people killed them I used to skin them.

Longest skin was 1m 20cm but ive heard of bigger ones.

  • is miss samoli considered a big puff adder or small? i guess what im generally asking is: how long is a full grown puff adder usually?

  • She's just a baby yet..they average 3 foot but can get to 5 feet sometimes.

    Bitis somalica

  • Excellent videos you have about these amazing snakes. You must have steel in your balls because I could never handle them like you, I'd be way too scared LOL!!!

  • I really love your Puff Adders and all the videos you have with them, their attitude makes them very interesting! The difference in Channing and Somali really shows their personalities. Which Puff Adder is in "More Fun With Puff Adders"? The one jumping out of the tub you were trying to put him/her in. I never caught the name. It was really fun watching that beasty from the safety of youtube =P

  • Her name was simply Puff...sadly I found her dead a while back for no apparent reason.

  • Hey al, you may not care but maybe you will but I was in class today and a plump girl sits next to me and she always gets up to blow her nose and when she comes back she huffs and puffs and it reminded me of you and your puff adders lol.

  • Does she try to kill you??...LOL

  • Haha! She would if she saw what I said that's for sure.

  • they have a very ball python physique don't they? They from the same area? Could that be a mimickry adaption, a bit like a milk mimicking a coral?

  • whats up al i think you got tired of me asking qeustions a while back, anyway love your video talk to ya soon.

  • One of the cornsnakes I accepted to take care of has the same eye defect.

She doesnt seem to suffer from it in terms of perception or such..

Been doing as you Al.. letting nature take its course.

  • How many puff adders do you have in your collection now?

Ms Somali really behaves well in that shot, or maybe she was just pretending in order to get a chance to nail you?

Last this year some dude in my home country was bit by his puff adder because the hook just broke apart (must have been some crap) and the snake nailed his hand. He survived though, without even having to amputate anything so I suppose he was just dumb lucky.

  • I just have the two you saw but will be getting another this week.

  • do you think the swelling might cause pain for Ms. Channing? maybe a reason to consider removal

  • Well I'm sure it's painful but will the surgey cause her more pain and maybe death.

  • Hi Al,

    A very nice video.

I am very curious, I couldn't find a good answer anywhere...

How can I easily distinguish B. a. somalica from the nominal subspecies ?

    Anticipated thanks,

    Alex

  • o.O crikey nice vid:)

on second thoughs, 29 days till christmas

  • Al,any Boomslangs please? : )

  • Look through my back catalog a few videos...

  • Is"spiderball" the name given to the eye defect, or am i just getting confused...

  • I think he's reffering to a common Ball python "Morph"

  • hahha you sound like your going to cry just by talking about your snake

  • I once kept a puff adder that had the same thing going on with her eye.I found her dead one day and I assumed that to be the cause.I'm keeping a canebrake you'd like,it has blue and grey coloring

  • I absolutely love the way it moves it tongue at the beginning of the video, so cool.

  • Never wanting to imply disrespect to the South, but when you said it could be inbreeding I had an image of Ms Channing with a banjo.

  • LOL!!

  • xD thats funny

  • mossberg 12ga "special purpose series" 500 or Remington 870. nice

  • Remington 870

  • nice.....;)

  • wow AL that really is a calm puff adder, especially with a eye rproblem i would expect it to be going APE SHIT, great video AL.

  • summarized...it sucks to get bitten by a b.arietans XP

  • I like you Al

  • I like me too

  • lol

  • im in shock how calm they were.

... Al its no secret that i like rattlesnakes, but compared to a puff adder how agressive are they compred to a puffy?

  • Normally rattlesnakes are on Prozac compared to Puff Adders.

  • meaning? not as agressive?

  • I find it very difficult to say snakes are "aggressive" I think "defensive" is the correct term. I think they are only agressive when it comes to feeding.

  • youwastemytime what an appropriate name..in simple terms.. no it wouldn't

  • hey do you think it would be safe to put a female corn snake in with a male puff adder or the other way around lol

  • jeeez!! that's insane but oh so cool lol

  • Those things can strike soooo fast it's not even funny which is why I agree on them being one of the most dangerous captives

  • I think the speed is ~28 ft/sec

  • Al, you should go for the surgery to install the small tube. It may relieve some pain.

  • I don't have a vet local to do it....

  • ooo and great video you never half ass it

  • hey buddy i have a weird question for you, so here it is, what would be the reason for a snake to only flicker its tounge down? i know you dont deal with pythons anymore but, i collect venomus and non, and resantly got a male spider morph ball, witch only flickers his tounge down, ive never seen this before and no one can give me a reason, hes healthy proper weight, no parisites or physical defects that i can see? its the strangest thing? have you ever seen this before in any other specices?

  • No, I have no idea and seldom she this sort of tongue action. It just may be she is leaving her tongue out longer to collect more information since her eye is not working well...just my 2 cents

  • Spiders balls are known to have neurological problems, although what you describe doesn't seem like it would have any negative side effect, and probably is just the way this particular snake does things...Oh and yet another great video Al

  • isnt it also true that puff adders have the fastest strike out of any snake?

  • I think the speed is ~28 ft/sec If you're in her strike envelope, you're OWNED.

  • i like you Al

  • cool video keep them coming.

  • very nice vid mr coritz! i really enjoyed this video and seeing the adders in a more "relaxed" state.. not like i dont enjoy them when they are testy.. that is always very entertaining. :P

  • another great video there viperkeeper must say i wouldn't want to be that close to a puff adder though

  • I consider Puff Adders one of the most dangerous species to keep.

  • nice video al, is that a shotgun in the background?

  • Sure is...

  • is that next in line for the mambas if the tongs fail?

  • Another Great Video Thanks, for posting
