  • Lonely Street by Carl Belew, Kenny Sowder, & W. S. Stevenson.

There are many versions of this song. Whether the George Jones version or Gene Vincen's version is better than the other, they are equally power performances. George's version is strictly country whilst Gene's version is more pop or bluezy.....so why the debate?....a great song, written by Carl Belew (who did a wicked version himself), recorded by two brilliant singers, among many, from two different fields of music.

  • Yes, Gene Vincent did the best version of this song. If you want to listen to George Jones's version while you're two-stepping in your leather vest that's fine. Nothing wrong with George Jones. But put headphones on and listen to Gene Vincent. When Gene says the line "watch an old love die" you feel like he's really on that lonely street...which he really was in real life...he delivers it like no other has and ever will again.

  • This man could stand on a stage and sing the phone book out loud. I would not even bat an eye at spending $100 a ticket

  • @SilverFoxNo1 I'll settle this argument once and for all. The best version of this song that I've ever heard is by Rex Allen Jr.
