if you really wanted a third person metroid game in three dimensions on the wii you should have used the nunchuk for movement, and the wii-mote for targeting. it could be a cursor independent of the charcter that you could use to aim and fire whilst still retaining the capability to move around. it's extremely simple and would have made for a much better game.
I dislike this game severely. the control scheme was the worst part. honestly, the metroid prime controls worked just fine and there's no reason they couldn't have translated that into a third person view. i honestly could have tolerated this game had the controls been done in some sort of sensible fashion rather than the pathetic single unit attempt to simplify the system. what's the point of a nunchuk if you dont use it to make a well controlled game?

@SniiperSiinner Since you're obviously a whiny little kid I'll explain to you why this game was sad. In the prequel to this game, Samus finds an unhatched Metroid egg as it hatches. The baby had assumed Samus was it's mother since it was the first thing it had seen. Throughout the game you go about killing space pirates with your little baby companion following you wherever you go and at the end of the game you end up confronting the Mother Brain. The baby ends up sacrificing itself to save you.

In 25 years from now this will be looked upon as one of the most underrated and overhated games of all time, while it may not be a true Metroid game people seem to overlook the fact that is a pretty good action game in its own right.
I feel i'm the only person who like Other M, yeah i ve played every metroid game, and i find this game really good, only one thing i find bad, this was the Energy and Missile gain, but the rest of the game, i find it good, Sure, the Prime series was better (Metroid Prime 1 was my first metroid ever, and it also my fav metroid ever) but i enjoy the game, That is my opinion
My only complaints with Other M are i think Samus is a little too narrative with the game and little is left to interpretation and I felt the game was more dodge->blast->dodge->blast and less real maneuvering and my only final grip is this. Emotional character fine... saying "the baby" every 4 sentences (exaggeration) got very annoying very fast.

Added on top of the fact that unlike her previous and future missions, she didn't go solo on this venture. She was now fighting with people she's close, and they were in grave danger of this imminent threat that was taking place.
But I guess I should ask: when has there ever actually been any solid characterization of Samus till now to actually decide what she should act like, the fans, mind you, who pretend they know the character better than the people who made her.

This game sucks so much dick it's embarassing to the player and the franchise. It's unbelievable that an awesome series could have one big shit stain that is this game. The voice acting, the trivia (Samus' basic suit....??? That's it? Look at how Prime provided trivia info), the storyline, the final boss battle (not Phantoon), the big sad emotional showdown (yeah right) getting abruptly interrupted by the self destruct warning, and so on. This game is such a monumental fuckup it's just tragic.
Why make her talk? Reminds of of the old batman comics, they had to spell everything out for you in the most obvious way possible. SUBTLY? MYSTERY? Ha, nope.
Am I the only one who really LIKES this game? All the other people seem to critical with this game, and they never seem to actually ENJOY what the game has to offer. Plus this is my favorite Samus variation because she has a PERSONALITY and I actually wanted to see he get out alive.

@SniiperSiinner Since you're obviously a whiny little kid I'll explain to you why this game was sad. In the prequel to this game, Samus finds an unhatched Metroid egg as it hatches. The baby had assumed Samus was it's mother since it was the first thing it had seen. Throughout the game you go about killing space pirates with your little baby companion following you wherever you go and at the end of the game you end up confronting the Mother Brain. The baby ends up sacrificing itself to save you.

My only complaints with Other M are i think Samus is a little too narrative with the game and little is left to interpretation and I felt the game was more dodge->blast->dodge->blast and less real maneuvering and my only final grip is this. Emotional character fine... saying "the baby" every 4 sentences (exaggeration) got very annoying very fast.

Added on top of the fact that unlike her previous and future missions, she didn't go solo on this venture. She was now fighting with people she's close, and they were in grave danger of this imminent threat that was taking place.

Also gameplay decisions like standing and switching to 3rd person for rockets or complete heal werent comprehensible for me. It's hard to believe that Mother Brain's 10-ton head could be held up by that makeshift spine... It's whole body moved like a stick figure... This game sucks so much dick it's embarassing to the player and the franchise. It's unbelievable that an awesome series could have one big shit stain that is this game. The voice acting, the trivia (Samus' basic suit....??? That's it? @PikadudeN64 Dude don't YOU get it? Team Ninja purposely wrote that plot point so Samus would be subserviant to a man, completely opposite to how she behaved before.
This is the team that made Dead or Alive. They took the strongest female character in gaming and made her about as smart, strong, and likable as one of their characters. i.e. not any of those things at all.

@GatekeeperAidan ...to be honest, i cant disagree with u; but in metroid fusion, she had mentioned adam during one of her trips in the elevator, so they HAD 2 put some back story, even if it meant samus' sudden personality change; honestly, game co. will do ANYTHING 2 make another game (Star Fox Adventures?)
