The guy who built that roof over needs to be questioned as to why it came down so easy. Imagine if there were cars under that unstable roof structure as it came down. From how easily it folded, a slight wind could of produced the same effect on a stormy day. They called that shoddy work when stuff falls down.
How in the world was that canopy allowed to be built without at least a 14 foot vertical clearance? It looks like new construction and I'm pretty sure that's the code in most places.

It's definitely not built to code (unless building codes are really that shitty in Texas). The piers appear to be merely sitting on the ground, not anchored. Any concrete roof section must be attached to a concrete wall (not a stick built one as this one appears), to prevent lateral movement. It must also be able to withstand a category 2 hurricane (which this one couldn't).
The contractor who put that up needs to have his head examined, I agree there would be some distortion to the structure but it shouldn't have come down that easily.....

There is no waythat the over head structure was built according to code. The loss of a single support pillar or even the sheer stress from a trailer pulled by a pickup truck should not have cause total structural failure. While there was clearly driver error involved here we must place primary blame on the builder. The builder was cheap or simply cheated.

The people who are blaming poor construction for this are sadly misinformed. Buildings are NOT designed to be able to withstand an idiot pulling a ≈10,000lb (Keystone Everest RV spec weight) trailer into them. The dimensions of the building were fine for 99% of passenger vehicles. Everyone else can get the hell out and walk inside.
if it was a dome structure it would not have collapsed. the contractor built what was designed, and what was designed passed codes. Whether it's an airplane crashing into a tower, or a camper trailer into an overhang, you can't over-build everything to accept the abuse of the unintentional accident. If you feel your bank should build stronger overhangs so you don't have to get out of the car to access an ATM, please contact your local city official to demand a code that enforces just that.
Either one hell of a strong trailer or one cheap ass bank construction. geez.

This was an issue of two things.
First, the dumbass driving a very tall trailer to an overhang when he didn't even really attempt to judge the clearance.
Secondly, poor construction of said overhang. It should have resisted a flimsy trailer better than that.

hope that dude has good insurance. I wonder if the overhang had a posted height clearance or a incorrect posted height clearance? If that's the case the bank is held accountable.With any drive through bank or fast food place or any business with an overhang business owners HAVE to post proper height clearance but from the looks of it the guy in this video just wasn't paying attention.

The people who are blaming poor construction for this are sadly misinformed. Buildings are NOT designed to be able to withstand an idiot pulling a ≈10,000lb (Keystone Everest RV spec weight) trailer into them. The dimensions of the building were fine for 99% of passenger vehicles. Everyone else can get the hell out and walk inside.

if it was a dome structure it would not have collapsed. the contractor built what was designed, and what was designed passed codes. Whether it's an airplane crashing into a tower, or a camper trailer into an overhang, you can't over-build everything to accept the abuse of the unintentional accident. If you feel your bank should build stronger overhangs so you don't have to get out of the car to access an ATM, please contact your local city official to demand a code that enforces just that.
