You don’t need to be Catholic, Christian or a frickin’ skinhead to get married in this country. So marriage is not only for religious people. You don’t need a church to get married. It is a legal contract recognized by the President of the USA down to the cop on the street.

@doetim Well as far as I know the judge overturned prop 8 and gays WERE allowed to get married, but then this group of people came and are trying to take this whole thing to the supreme court so gays can't get marry right away in CA. They have to wait a month or so and then they can get marry, then the supreme court will decide whether it should or shouldn't be legal.

A judge can overrule because they have studied the constitution and other legal documents more than anyone. Though, you are correct to be cautious, and i agree that judges can be wrong. However it is a process that must happen and should happen.

I think Kathy got a little confused about which judge did what. Judge Walker is the one who gave us the ruling that Prop 8 was illegal. He said that there is no reason to make equal marriage illegal. He's on the right side of history.

@doetim Well as far as I know the judge overturned prop 8 and gays WERE allowed to get married, but then this group of people came and are trying to take this whole thing to the supreme court so gays can't get marry right away in CA. They have to wait a month or so and then they can get marry, then the supreme court will decide whether it should or shouldn't be legal.
