Yeh definately engine failure... there is no sign of jetwash on the surface of the water as the harrier falls.. at that altitude the pilot knew the instant the engines cutout that he was going to have to reach for the yellow handles.

I don't obviously know what caused the engine cutout, but the turbines were barely moving when he hit the water. (As you can plainly see from the fact that the water is almost undisturbed by jetwash) So unless the pilot physically turned them off while he was in hover... it wasn't pilot error.

When I was in the RAF (Brit air force)I remember harriers hovering for more then 30 secs, but your right there will be a time limit. They need to be treated just right or they'll spit you out like gum!! Lookin forward to the new F35, its a great plane.
