I wish to learn German language, but on the internet i didn't find any useful site (my language is Serbian, for people who speak English is not hard to find) and im far away from only institution where i can do that(Ghoete Institute in Belgrade). so,for some of us its hard to get some German lessons.Bad karma or i don't know to use internet, i suppose. :) I dont understand Einsturzende Neubauten too,but still listening and enjoying cheers
@JaStvarno i can't speak serbien, but neubauten think "crazy".i mean the text from the song.but the songs are true.i hear it since the80 years....greatings from germany
@JaStvarno The German Laguage ESN use is pretty difficult! Even as a German i have from Time to Time problems ´to understand what they are talking about.
@JaStvarno the only good possibility would be learners software...
there is some of this stuff like "learning german für serbians", even though I don't really understand why the homepage that's selling it is in german...^^
if you like to get some help in getting such software or anything, just get me a pm
@JaStvarno it´s strange, neubauten are very popular in much countrys, but in germany the young people never heard about einstürzende neubauten... when i say to a adult that i listen to neubauten, they are always very surprised...
sorry for my bad english, im from germany you know, and i´m not the best in school english ;)
I really wouldn't call that a complaint. Just a general statement about not knowing German. Some people will look for any excuse to vent their petty feelings about the USA.
They don't sing about killing puppies:-). There are English translations out there...like on their website. One semester of German classes doesn't help me either. All I remember is : "Enschuldigen zie bitte, darf ich hinauf?" which means "I am sorry, could I please come in?" I was always late :-(.
also, ich habe EN total vergessen! (zuviel Laibach, vielleicht?) danke fuer die Erinnerung!! tschuldigung fuer mein scheiss deutsch, bin schon zu lange hier
@burngadget the rosetta stone software is pretty gut to start learning a language.
the german version is pretty good. well, i dont think its sufficient to learn some difficult grammar things that can be pretty hard in german language, but hey - who cares ;-)
@burngadget The book _German Quickly_. It teaches you the mechanics of the language, and you'll be reading books in no time. (The book is geared at reading fluency required in graduate programs.) It's very efficient at teaching grammar. From there you can use other resources to work on vocabulary and conversational German. I think it's a great approach -- it's much easier to pick up words & phrases when you understand the gist of what people are saying.
@tinydestroyer As far as I'm concerned, German is too hard to be learned alone with a book ! Speaking it with natives or listening to good groups like Einstürzende Neubauten or watching movies (there are plenty of them which are really good) are way more useful than books !
Personally, I couldn't care less whether or not I understand the lyrics to a song. German is a beautiful language, and I would like to learn it someday, but for now I enjoy just listening to the mysterious and haunting sound of the words and Blixa's voice along with the music.
i LOVE this song... can't believe i've never heard it before... been out of the loop for a bit... So glad EN are still doing it! I love their newer material, version 3.0 or what have you...
Awesome song, but the thumbnail tricked me into thinking that this is the music video. I was expecting something great after seing "Nagorny Karabach"... -_-
True. Much of it's essence would be watered down in the process, I'm afraid. Translation is such a tricky business in general, though. The original, once translated, becomes some sort of 'mutation'.
Still, I think translations are worthwhile for a number of reasons, one of them being curiosity. ;)
@hanschibal I don't think it's possible. A big part of the lyrics of this song only makes sense, when you know some German proverbs. If you don't know the proverbs the passages are taken from they make no sense. It's hard to make sense of them, even for native speakers, because a lot of Blixa's lyrics are just subconscieous associations. The lyrics are far less important than how the sound makes me feel.
Mainly this song is about not taking advice from the establishment and thinking for yourself
why must i love a band that doens't speak my language? They could be saying some horrible thing about killing puppies and i wouldn't know. I'd just sit here rocking out to puppy killing. lol
@Kaylazaki No, as far out as our beloved Blixa has always been, he's not going to do that. Some of EN's CD's have lyric booklets with English translations, and the words are very random and abstract. So you'll get a lot of metaphors rather than statements, and I doubt that killing puppies is one of them.
@Kaylazaki Weil weil weil in german means: "we are a bunch of sadistic naziskins who love to skin puppies alive and to eat their bloody flesh while they're still screaming" but who cares? KILL DA FUCKIN PUPPIES RIGHT NOW!!!
