Sure, just what we need. more of the same. Sad that just a few years ago more and more young people were showing an interest in Smooth Jazz. But of course that's not good enough for Clear Channel and the other companies that have taken over most of this country's radio stations. The new rating system makes no sense and automatcially down-rates smooth jazz. Sad day indeed.
Well... I usually hate when a station flips to Top 40 but Detroit kinda did need it... I like 9-5-5 but they are more Hip-Hop than Top 40. I agree with KDM7000 though, ATL DOES need a Top 40 station. Q100 and Star 94 are more Hot AC, and ATL is a hip-hop city. Maybe Clear Channel may flip one of their Atlanta stations to Top 40, who knows?
Depends on which rating system u r talking about. If we surveyed people in Detroit.....Im not talking about Taylor, Mich. and places like that....you would definatley find that 955 is not the most listened to station.
Whoa - just saw something! This is very interesting! Oh well... 95.5 will be affected by this, and they will probably eventually lose their number one spot in ratings.. 96.3 will be affected, too, and I bet within a year or so, 95.5 and 98.7 will be battling for the top position in ratings... Anyone doing top 40 CHR / Rhythmic hits today in 2009 has high chance of success. Just amazing seeing how many stations have changed across the US in 2009, and much more coming 2010...
Congratulations on your new top 40 Amp radio station! Next, Atlanta desperately needs one!!! We have enough here in Az for now. Anyway, good luck. Another Jazz station down in the U.S... Top 40 is taking over as the new generation sound of music continues to approach. We've been through Blues, Jazz, Rock n Roll, Disco, and now at the very end of the hip hop generation (who are now the parents!!). What will the next big sound be?? All I'll say is.. a whole new sound is coming. Get ready for it...
Just what we need....another 955 type of station playing songs that no one in (DETROIT) listens, except try to force us to listen to. I hope this station fails and they bring back V98.7.
This is really sad. I loved V98.7 for years. I'm not sure if Detroit needs any other top 40 stations - with 95.5 (you almost can't consider 95.5 top 40 since it's so hip-hop oriented), 96.3, and now 106.7 (that one is now top 40-dance).
I heard somewhere that WLLZ (hard rock) is coming back to Detroit. I hope not. :-(
96.3 looks very Top 40 AC and 95.5 looks to be very rhythmic leaning top 40 if they are top 40. By what I've seen 98.7 play so far, they are straight up top 40.. and if I had known 106.7 was top 40 dance, then i wouldn't have been so excited about Amp. However, I thought 106.7 was hits from back in the day and today. I didn't really see any dance hits, unless I looked up the wrong station call letters...
Sorry, but I wish bad luck on this station...urban Detroit does not listen to 60% of the stuff they play on this "THE TAKE OVER"shit, they just tryin to force it down listeners throats.
It's about freakin time we get a new Top 40 station. I am so sick of Channel 955 and their annoying playlist which mostly consists of songs that came out months ago. I hope this station is ON the new stuff.

@viperkn
Hell yeah, this shit is aimed at teenage girls, that's pretty much the market for this crap.
Now we have another lame 95.5-like station.
