fuuuuuuuuuuck yeah !!!!!!!!!!!take that justin B.back then people had talen, singing ,dance, and play an instrument ,now we got lady gaga ,,,, can some onew fucking shoot me ,pleas ,, lady gaga cooooome on !!!
What gets me is how young these guys are to be as good as they are. They look like little kids. I think this is the Ed Sullivan show, which means it's real and not lip synced. What 14 years olds nowadays could do this without a bunch of studio techs making them sound good?
This is one of first sounds that was entering the Rock&Roll/Rock-a-billy era. It seems a little corny now but it was a big Hit for The Sparkletones in July of 1957.
These guys look dabonair! It just looks like they piled the brylcreem on, and slicked their hair back...even Elvis didn't pile it on that that. I guess you could call the Sparkletones greasers if they were to be attending Gladstone in the late fifties. They would be a little to flashy for highschool, dressed like that, and the gals would never be seen wearing black slacks to school, they were meant to be dressed up like girls, you know skirts, jumpers & dresses...and how sweet they looked!
Gordon also had a hit with Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday, Someway." If Gordon is still playing, I strongly urge fans of this style of music to go see him. It's about as close to real rockabilly as one may get nowadays, with so many of the original cats retired or dead.
Along with The Everly Bros., Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent, I think these are among my favorite of all rock & roll tunes.
I also think Conway Twitty's 'Make Believe" is the best Elvis song never made a hit by Elvis.
I used to see Robert Gordon, a tremendous rockabilly revivalist who played with guitar legend Link Wray for a few years, perform an amazing version of this song, as well Billy Lee Riley's "Red Hot." and some tunes by The Burnette Bros. Trio.
Check out the bass player in the video of Cab Calloway singing "The Reefer Man" The bass player in the Sparkletones is as amped up as Cab's bass player. Faster bass... faster..
Everything was painted gray in the television studios back then....to show up clearly on the black and white television sets. They were probably told not to wear black slacks. Very talented guys! And so young too.
I've heard lots of versions that are good. But this was the fastest good one I've seen. That was two lane blacktop hotrods racing down route 66 speed!!!
The American boys wore pegged "fourteens" in the fifties whilst us Teddy boys in the UK wore them tapered . I managed to wear a pair of "elevens" for a while but I had to unscrew my feet to get them on!
MY God - I sang with Joe in Berlin in 1968-1970 - was in the Army, Joe in the AirForce, we had a band called 'The Brass Door - what a jolt to find this! Hey Joe, if you're still alive and you see this, I'm in Vegas now - Bill Pojunis
I was so impressed by this band, that when I "found" them, sometime in the eighties, I pretty much forced our punk band "The Scabz" to go rockabilly, and chenge it's name to The Sparktones. Although it didn't really work, and certainly didn't last too long, it was sure fun as hell (for me anyway) trying!
Imitators fall away when you see these young cats knock out their original of their song! A new Strat was well over 300 1957-58 bucks, and you could buy a lot of used car for that 300...but these guys made the right purchase.
My dad was the drummer for this band. All these guys are still alive and well and do still play from time to time in Rockabilly reunion shows! Great to see this stuff out there!
I played with Joe in Berlin, Germany in 1969-70. He didn't need a rhythm guitarist but he took me under his wing and showed me a bunch of stuff that I still use today, almost 40 years later! Anyone know how I can contact him?

What tv show is this from? Looks similar to a Gene Vincent performance to "Dance To The Bop", with similar video editing and wild rockin' dancers.

be more convincing if they wore black slacks, and white sparkle tops.
still, this was a great group. they used the money from record sales to buy a bus company.
