  • Love it!

  • is that the crazy kid from the the collins kids ?

  • @CoolSingerForSale No...that is Howard "Sparky" Childress.

  • fuuuuuuuuuuck yeah !!!!!!!!!!!take that justin B.back then people had talen, singing ,dance, and play an instrument ,now we got lady gaga ,,,, can some onew fucking shoot me ,pleas ,, lady gaga cooooome on !!!

  • They are still alive and playing this song. How cool is that.

  • And not a single pair of black slacks on stage.

  • What tv show is this from? Looks similar to a Gene Vincent performance to "Dance To The Bop", with similar video editing and wild rockin' dancers.

  • Priceless

  • Whoa - love that wild dancer!! Woohoo!!

  • What gets me is how young these guys are to be as good as they are. They look like little kids. I think this is the Ed Sullivan show, which means it's real and not lip synced. What 14 years olds nowadays could do this without a bunch of studio techs making them sound good?

  • be more convincing if they wore black slacks, and white sparkle tops.

still, this was a great group. they used the money from record sales to buy a bus company.

  • This is one of first sounds that was entering the Rock&Roll/Rock-a-billy era. It seems a little corny now but it was a big Hit for The Sparkletones in July of 1957.

    Ron

  • If you wanna download this mp3 click to everymp3rip doht cohm.

  • My only qualm with this is why didn't the Sparkletones wear black slacks when they were playing.

  • Wicked piece of film.great posting.

  • Yay!!! Just got this 78!! LOVE THIS RECORD!!

  • the tall one is my guitar teacher!!!

  • @kdiorio91 no way! lies!

  • @chawny1 sure is he teaches google joe bennet guitar lessons, idk if your being sarcastic or not tho lol

  • More fidgety than rockin' - but still gotta love it.

  • Love it!!! what else is ther to say...when you hear this it brings back so many memories..it's 1957 again!!!

  • Those cats really swing!!

  • oh man...great great GREAT!!!

  • danm badd ass song!!!.i remember this from the late eighties and man! It was gold then and its GolD now,DAD! Crazy!! Had me moving!!

  • WiLD SONG .THATS THE SOUND

  • These guys look dabonair! It just looks like they piled the brylcreem on, and slicked their hair back...even Elvis didn't pile it on that that. I guess you could call the Sparkletones greasers if they were to be attending Gladstone in the late fifties. They would be a little to flashy for highschool, dressed like that, and the gals would never be seen wearing black slacks to school, they were meant to be dressed up like girls, you know skirts, jumpers & dresses...and how sweet they looked!

  • Great - what a Rockin` Sound!!!

  • This song is about the old ZOOT Suits, Peg 14 cat chain down to my knees. Go sparkleltones

  • yeah, look at he cats dancin' in the silhouettes...

  • That is KILLER!

I am a ROCKABILLY BABY BOO

    TBD

  • Gordon also had a hit with Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday, Someway." If Gordon is still playing, I strongly urge fans of this style of music to go see him. It's about as close to real rockabilly as one may get nowadays, with so many of the original cats retired or dead.

Along with The Everly Bros., Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent, I think these are among my favorite of all rock & roll tunes.

I also think Conway Twitty's 'Make Believe" is the best Elvis song never made a hit by Elvis.

  • I used to see Robert Gordon, a tremendous rockabilly revivalist who played with guitar legend Link Wray for a few years, perform an amazing version of this song, as well Billy Lee Riley's "Red Hot." and some tunes by The Burnette Bros. Trio.

Man, those tunes were real rock & roll!

  • The middle kid :) 00:26

  • Amazing! The silhouette dancer is crazy!

  • Can't get enough of this song! However, I happened to notice that the band is NOT wearing black slacks. What's up w/that?

  • Check out the bass player in the video of Cab Calloway singing "The Reefer Man" The bass player in the Sparkletones is as amped up as Cab's bass player. Faster bass... faster..

    Both songs blow me away!

  • When I put em on I'm a ready to go...

  • Cats workin hard.

  • mostly in the head. well, that's what i said.

  • Where are thier black slacks???????

  • they were the cat's pajamas, daddy-o!

  • This was the first record I bought on 78,and I still have somewhere.

  • Joe Bennett is awesome and a great guitar teacher--my daughter takes lessons from him!

  • I didn't catch it for a while, either...I just glide away on the music and go to that special place

  • How come they're not wearing BLACK SLACKS???

  • hey, good eye i'd didn't catch that..i've watched this clip tons lol how blind am i?

  • Everything was painted gray in the television studios back then....to show up clearly on the black and white television sets. They were probably told not to wear black slacks. Very talented guys! And so young too.

  • I've heard lots of versions that are good. But this was the fastest good one I've seen. That was two lane blacktop hotrods racing down route 66 speed!!!

  • many many thanks for that one ! cheers

  • The American boys wore pegged "fourteens" in the fifties whilst us Teddy boys in the UK wore them tapered . I managed to wear a pair of "elevens" for a while but I had to unscrew my feet to get them on!

  • Man how old do you think they are ?

A couple of them look like their about 15,

    Great song!

  • Fucking Amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • many many thanks for this one !

(hope bill finds his old dude :)

    rock n roll !

  • perfect rockabilly... can't belive the guy was slapping the bas so crazy and nice !!

  • MY God - I sang with Joe in Berlin in 1968-1970 - was in the Army, Joe in the AirForce, we had a band called 'The Brass Door - what a jolt to find this! Hey Joe, if you're still alive and you see this, I'm in Vegas now - Bill Pojunis

  • Not only is he still alive, he's teaching guitar in Spartanburg (SC)!

  • this is the shit!

    awesome :)

  • Great!

  • These guys ROCK! thanks for posting.

  • Go cat go!!!! Very hard to find! Thanks!

  • I was so impressed by this band, that when I "found" them, sometime in the eighties, I pretty much forced our punk band "The Scabz" to go rockabilly, and chenge it's name to The Sparktones. Although it didn't really work, and certainly didn't last too long, it was sure fun as hell (for me anyway) trying!

  • impressive bassplayer!

nice images with the guy dancing trough the video

  • Great tune! I'm glad to see original footage of these guys. thanks!

  • Great tune! I'm glad to see original footage of these guys. thanks!

  • Imitators fall away when you see these young cats knock out their original of their song! A new Strat was well over 300 1957-58 bucks, and you could buy a lot of used car for that 300...but these guys made the right purchase.

  • i bought their records but never saw them perform...too bad payola halted so many performances ..... now has anyone heard of

the Decca recording ' Merry, Mary Lou....and the 3 other spelling versions? Were they called The Sparks?

  • What do you want? REAL rockabilly? This was over 50 years ago. THATS REAL rockabilly the laters are copies!!!

  • Not a bad version, but the Hot Rod Trio's version is much better. They're so cool their drummer stands up!! That's REAL rockabilly.

  • Not a bad version!!?!?

    These guys are the originals!!

    They wrote the fricken' song...

They are true pioneers of rock-a-billy!

  • Ahhh Lorenzo....my reply was typed in sarcasm mode.Next time I'll type a nudge and a wink so ya get it! Stay greasy.

  • Absolutely awesome. Great band!

  • One winning movie!!!

  • The oldest member is seventeen and the youngest is only 14! Amazing!

    Rockabilly is the sheeeit!

  • note how they are NOT wearing black slacks

    :)

  • Yea...the Sparkletones made good rockabilly songs. Great!

  • Grew up w/this..Never saw the group until now..great stuff and great performers. Dr. Bruce KFTX Radio

  • Stray Cats wish they were this real.

  • Sparky has his ears glued back in this clip!

  • My dad was the drummer for this band. All these guys are still alive and well and do still play from time to time in Rockabilly reunion shows! Great to see this stuff out there!

  • Wow! That's so cool to know! They rocked! Hard ! Give your dad my best from a 61 year old. ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE!

  • yea im actually taking guitar lessons from Joe

    hes a cool guy

  • I played with Joe in Berlin, Germany in 1969-70. He didn't need a rhythm guitarist but he took me under his wing and showed me a bunch of stuff that I still use today, almost 40 years later! Anyone know how I can contact him?

  • Yes I think it is a good thing. It is a perpetuation of American society be it Black, White, or any other colour. It is a historic sound.

  • True pioneers of Rock and Roll!

    Thanks for posting!
