There is an alternate universe where martin Scorsese is a successful actor and not a director. It is not as cool as our universe but it's still pretty cool
It is cool to see Martin Scorsese in a Kuroasawa film! Two masters of filmmaking apart of the same film! But it would have worked better if Scorsese was speaking French in his scenes! Van Gogh speaking in English just doesn't quite work! Great film all the same! Saw it when it was first released as a kid in 1990 at the Camera 3 in San Jose, California right around the time I saw Tampopo!
@Satchel334 I liked it, it was kind of ironic. It fit the character well. The NY accent added to the absurdity of Van Gogh. He was supposed to be a brillant insane.
I love it. Amazing, i mean the idea of stepping into a painting... of course you have to meet there Vincent, because he was there at that moment and painted! I like that idea of time travelling, i would like to meet him as well
Bull. Well, it's understandable you don't understand all the sequences, like the first and second sequence, as they are very personal to him and I agree, the first few sequences are dull and seemingly meaningless, and they do have meaning, but it's hard to see. But this sequence, is very meaningful. It's powerful, just like the music and the paintings of the time, and it captures the true feeling of what it is to paint and inspire to paint.
if you all like this so much, i would most definately recommend renting or buying the whole film on dvd, it really is very fantastic and breathtaking visually and by sound and story as well...
Even on my tiny computer screen, I can still feel the beauty and wonder of this movie. This segment of Yume has always been my favorite, it shows Kurosawa's flexibility and inspiration as an artist himself.
I agree with butterflyhands, this is one of my favourite stories in the Dreams movie, (Which was overall a great film), the imagery is incredible, almost intoxicating.
Nice! Very nice!

Es realmente maravilloso. Y la pieza de piano es de Chopin, Schubert no era tan complejo en sus composiciones...

I love the message of this dream. Namely, what it says about the creative process: work and inspiration.

Does anyone know the piano song being played in the background?
artistchick10 4 years ago
It's a piece by Franz Schubert, but I don't know which one off-hand.
LandslideLyndon 4 years ago
Ok, it's actually the Chopin prelude op. 28 no. 15. But, the later section really sounds like Schubert.
LandslideLyndon 4 years ago
Thank you!
artistchick10 4 years ago
I think the later section is also Chopin. It's a piece that illustrates heavy rain opposed to the first section that illustrates gentle rain.
The two sections are connected, I am sure.
