  • "How Do You Like It?"

  • Man, the soundtrack of this movie is what made what it is; scary as hell. Seriously, just hearing this gave me chills. They really did fantastic with the soundtrack AND the movie itself. A pure classic horror movie.

  • Always creeps me out to know that this music--and all of Penderecki's music, for that matter--was not written for this movie.

  • @daxmiller35 It's almost like the movie is written for the music!

  • Penderecki has the X-factor.

  • How is it possible for a sane man to create music like this? my answer: its not..

  • 3.10. Oh wow.

  • I love you for this.

  • I've always loved the Shining, but never heard of Penderecki until just recently.... Now I realize I've loved his music all my life without even realizing it!

  • @Wendy

"You've had your WHOLE F***ING LIFE to think things over. What good's a few minutes more gonna do you now?"

  • HERE'S JOHNY!!!

  • What sound was that at 2:40 . I think it's violins plucked in a bizarre manner, but I don't know what it is exactly.

  • Johnny: How 'd you like it?

    Wendy: *screams*

  • Krzysztof Penderecki has such a talent !!! :)

  • OK, lemme retract that. Why'd you cut off the C Major finale?

  • God, I have been trying forever to find this particular performance of this piece. There's another version on CD (Warsaw NPO, Antoni Wit) that isn't quite as focused as the original (I'm guessing Polish Radio NSO, or LSO, conducted by Penderecki himself.) This is just... perfect.

  • @rockoqatsi This is from a 2 CD set on the Polish "Muza" label. This, and basically all, of the Shining tracks on YouTube and elsewhere on the web are from a compilation I put together over 3 or 4 years in the 1990s. I gave copies to a few people and it spread like cancer (including idiots selling it).

  • @drumuitar Thanks for the info. Don't know if I can use it, but thanks. ^^

  • @rockoqatsi I pulled out the cd and here are the specifics: Krzysztof Penderecki Vol.1-St. Lukes Passion/Threnody/Polymorphia (Muza PNCD 017 A) CD

  • 3:12

*lifts feet up off the floor*

  • this song scares me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XDXD

  • this is creepy O.O coudent sleep last night but dang love this movie

  • Does anyone know the track of music used while Wendy was running around the hotel and found the bear giving a man... err, happy time?

  • @outlawjrj Utrenja (Ewangelia) by Krzysztof Penderecki.

  • @Kubrickfan27 Thank you!!

  • There are no such composers as Penderecki that can make your spine shiver with fear even in broad daylight among people... Except Bernard Hermann maybe...not sure.

  • @dega723 Try Iannis Xenakis

  • @guadalajara4848 Thanks ! you were right, kinda creepy....

  • I remember this track now. This is playing when Wendy looks over Jack's writing; Jack walks in and gets the bat.

  • @Chicosonata I'm not sure what I said about randomness, I can't find that comment. anyway, Penderecki himself, if I remember it well, admitted that his composition method is less strict and more... free... in nature. so it's not random, just not as mathematically strict as a lot of 20th century music is. which is great in fact, the guy was interested more in the emotional impact of sound and music rather than in sterile structures. which is the right thing to do, as a composer, I think.

  • why does the string plucking starting at 03:12 remind me of spiders?

  • @nickleus1977 probably cuz it was used in the exorcist, in the spiderwalk scene, and other bits.
