what is the point of testing it in virtual machine?... each virtual machine fighting for disk i/o and each virtual machine have totally have diffrent level of compatibility with the OS...

really bad test! 1 Star. You can use virtual machines to test speed. also windows 7 boots a lot faster than xp and even faster than any úbuntu on real hardware!

@AppleMacbookProUser It might help you to first think before you write something! this was a test with 3 virtual machines on one system - and by the way: on real hardware windows 7 boots faster than any mac OS X and ubuntu is a bad example for how fast linux can be anyway.

I agree! Anyways, that wasn't the most recent version of Ubuntu! The most recent version boots 3 times faster! It can boot on an EEE pc in 10 seconds off of a Solid State Drive. 20 seconds on a normal drive. Boot times on my laptop are as follows: Windows 7: 32.184 seconds, Windows Vista: 49.094 seconds, and Ubuntu 9.10: 17.391 seconds. And I got a Lenovo G530 w/ 4GB ddr2 667 ram and a 5400 RPM SATA-3G hard drive.

I think you may have just booted the live cd, using squashfs compression, loop mounted. There is a cd icon on the ubuntu desktop.
