I thought this was pretty cool, I just downloaded it and pointed at the tag in his golf magazine, in like 2 seconds I was watching the same video he showed.
Ah, how cute. They've reinvented the QR code. Sadly, the QR code is better because it doesn't require color. And the QR code is already useful to any phone that can scan barcodes already. Oh, and the QR code is already used by millions of people.
To clarify: I think tagging is amazing. I think there is huge potential. The question I am asking is
"who and what will determine how 2d barcodes become standardized?"
I do think microsoft has a neat angle here by allowing imagery to be more easily embedded into the codes. Color is a nice touch too. Doable with QR, but not as easy.
I agree that it is difficult, but Metaio is doing this already with AR stuff.
For the short term with marker based qr, I think that with the speed that this technology will evolve (noting how much further they are in asia) that eventually the interfaces of this action will become more transparent where the versioning and standards will no longer be a question. They will just work.
Is this an actual question? Microsoft believe it or not has the most popular operating systems in the world. More than Linux users and Mac users combined, I'm not here to choose sides - just to comply with bullshit comments.
wtf. well heck, if other countries are doing it then why dont we! and microsoft is making the software? why would i want an app on my iPhone that crashes all the time. the Bing app i downloaded to test it out crashed within the first 30 seconds.
@KolLiZlOlL QR codes have been used in Asia for friggen centuries. Its just that it has never caught on in the western world. Tag is just one of the MANY failing or failed attempts to bring it to the west

why would you not just use a QR code? Why does microsoft feel the need to obsolete existing technology. Stick to the standards. let the public adapt.

Ok, colour? That's going to be GREAT for printers since we'll be forced to do everything in 4C process. Thanks MS.

Imbedding a QR Code into an image is virtually impossible. It's far easier to imbed a MS tag into an image.

pointless does exactly the same thing as a qr code.
Qr code: Black and white easily recognisable Can carry a whole paragraph of text. Can carry links to any url. Can carry contact info... etc
MS Tag: Colourful may have issue if incorrectly printed or not properly displayed. Can do all of the above.
so my question is WHY?
G4ogami 2 years ago
So it's a colourful QR code?
