This made my heart beat like crazy. When Cheetah felll, i was like "GET UP!". I am SO glad that she is alright! They use break away tires here in most of the venues in Alberta, Canada. Thank god..
thats horribale im surprised they dont do anything about this its shocking in starting agility with my golden retriever and if that ever happened to me idk if my dog wud ever go thru it again shes so skittish and afraid of little things lik mailboxes shes gotten better though im glad your dog is okay and didnt get hurt it was cute when she got back up and looked at you lik "where do i go next?!"
I have seen many tire accidents, but none as severe as this. I have seen the whole frame come down across the dogs back and injure the dog. It's not only AKC and USDAA, but it is also UKC. I presently am running CPE and they DO use breakaway tires, although it is not a requirement, the clubs can use them. The exhibitors need to band together and put their collective foot down.
Thank you for posting this!!! I had no idea that the tire jump could be so dangerous. I'm so glad that Cheetah is okay, and I'm going to make sure that my view is heard about changing the tire jump.
Omg i cant belive that happend she could have broken her neck iam so glad shes okay thou that just went through me.I hate seeing things like this the tire jump as its called over here its lower to the ground for the safety of the dog and the height of the dog too but that was so scary but like i said iam so glad shes okay has she been put off by that?
No, luckly she has no issue with the tire since then. I do catch myself holding my breath sometimes, if I think it might be a funny approach or if the spacing is odd.
I run Miniature Schnauzers and a couple years ago, my guy was running an AKC course, came in on the tire at a bit of a wrong angle and hit, flipped him up in the air as well, he landed on his side and was ok, but if a smaller dog can hit the tire wrong, then every agility organization should make their tires breakaway.
Omg, poor dog! Shame on USDAA, that tire for one is too small and two, it needs to be able to break away! Break away tires should be a MUST everywhere!
The tire in usdaa is WAY to small for a 24" and 26" dogs, this is one reason we only run a few days a year in usdaa. videos like this not only make me sick but really piss me off that they will not do anything to make ot safer. GLAD cheetah is ok!!!!
Wow - that one make's Jazz' accident look pretty tame. Jazz was the same way coming off the course - why aren't we finishing the run, well ok, then I'll take my cookies now. I also gave him Trameel and kept him moving for quite a while afterwards so he wouldn't stiffen up.
Every time I see one of these tire crashes I wonder why on earth there is even a debate on making this part of agility safer for the dog. Glad Cheetah was fine after this.
Yes - she was fine. We gave her some Tramele(sp)?? Thanks Pauline! and she came off of the course looking for her cookies and thinking we were all nuts for touching her messing w/ her ...she just wanted her COOKIES NOW!
Jesus! That was a really bad crash! Did she have any problems with the tire afterwards?

After watching just a few tire crashes, I'm wondering why they don't make them break away. That's scary. Glad your pup was alright.

Come on, do the right thing. The best way to prevent a serious accident is to eliminate the hazard. Make the tire break away.

Oh my lord!! Cheetah is so lucky to be okay after that, I would have cried so hard and worried. I hope I never have a tire accident with my dogs.

Me too - I think that this would be such an easy fix.

Oh my, that is terrible. Something really needs to be done about the tire, either elimination of the obstacle or break away. I hope she is okay.
