I'm as blue Federal (Northerner- don't call me a "Yankee" though, damn it!)as they're made, but I love the original words. And there's a lot of politically correct versions of it as well.
But the original words were written by a Maryland son who wanted the state to join the new Confederacy. Some are offended- I love the history behind it.
I'm a gray Rebel (Southerner), not from Maryland, but Mississippi, and I claim Maryland as a Southern state - then and now. About half of the eligible Marylanders joined the CSA back in the Civil War. Maryland could not secede because Lincoln placed the state under martial law. Baltimore citizens formed a mob and fought Union soldiers in more than one occasion. To me, MD is Dixie.
