  • How was she using the phone?

  • @Modernprankz The power is out, not the telephone. The phone is not connected the the house power supply. How would you call the power company to tell them you don't have power if the phone didn't work?

  • @hilltopfarmsplumbing THANK YOU! Now tell that to Orange French telephone corp which only works on the house power supply...

  • I was only 6 but I remember very well.. My entire neighborhood was like wtf and we all had a bunch or flashlights and candels lit at night

  • You couldn't hid the bong long enough for the video to be made. Jeez.

  • 1:06 is that a bong ?? haha

  • Damnit now I gotta go smoke some weed.

  • lol i remember this day i was 8 and playing my gameboy outside.. i didn't even know what was going on xD

  • XD That's my birthday! And I was in boston, so we had a brownout instead.

  • i was playing rocky when this shit happen smg

  • LOL go to india or africa and you will see blackout every day and the weather is damn hot

  • I remember this day! I was at Six Flags, on the Log Flume ride ... we were going up and all of a sudden we stopped. Me and my friends were stuck there for about 3 hours, in the heat too! It was brutal. And by the time we drove home it was night and it was black everywhere.

  • This makes me wanna move there

  • Love the woman with the crackpipe: "Is this the five o clock free crack giveaway?"

  • The day we changed our power consumption habits.

  • the funniest thing is shes using a wired phone

  • Girl at 0:12 with hog ring in nose. Nasty!

  • 1:42 I remember those little radios...I'm getting old oh shit!

  • 1:41 OMG I REMEMBER THOSE MP3!!!!!! I use to have one!

  • you guys ROCK!

  • nigga stole my electricity

  • what happens in a blackout? can you even use the toilet???

  • @Conduit13C I guess it depends like of your using a well or a local water pump, but toilets don't use electricity I believe at least not the older ones

  • @363Simba ahh, well my cheap little toilet uses electricity. so that means whenever lightening strikes and knocks out the power, i got no toilet. sucks to be me...lol.

  • @Conduit13C it does sucks to be you.. i guess your going have to get a bucket XD

  • @363Simba yeah, well at least you, buddy. :P

  • I slept butt-naked on my roof with a tent, nice ass breeze throughout the night....my little propane stove cooking up whatever meat there was from the fridge..

Just like the old days in the philippines, geo-thermal powered our city...and if there was a storm or just a little problem with the lines....city was assed out.

  • haha i was trapped in an elavator in a hilton in new york for an hour when the black out happened

  • I got stuck on the Cyclone. My family and I were going to eat Nathans but we were like let's go on The Cyclone 1st. So we got stuck and waited an hour.

  • I think it effected Long Island too

  • I remember I was in Florida during this suckers

  • i think you guys got a bong too

  • luckily I just flew from Toronto to Huntington Beach and missed it all ... would have been cool to see though.

  • Its funny how much we depend on electricity...

  • Watch the film Deja Vu with Denzel washington and it explains why the blackout happened.

  • Haaaaaa Bjork!

  • i was in a fucking elevator when this happened. they got us out about an hour into the whole thing

  • RESEARCH THE NEW YORK BLACK OUT of 1977 !!!

  • So when there is electricity...people stay inside and use it...but when theres no electricity...they all roam outside...shows how much they need their electricity lol

  • I don't think all those people on the streets were just roaming around because they had bugger-all to do inside their houses. They probably had places to be and the subway stopped working and so did the traffic lights meaning that they had to walk to get where they had to be.

  • I lived on Long Island when this happened and this was one of the most funnest days of my life. Kids were hanging out all over by the hundreds in my neighborhood, people were just inviting anyone into their pool, i remember playing catch in my front yard until it got too dark to see the ball. I remember lighting about 25 candles throughout my house also. An experience i will never forget.

  • i was at the Statue of Liberty...thought it was 2002

  • Being a veteran of the Big Blackout of 1965, and remembering the blackout of 1977 (I was a live-in "nanny," a job I HATED, in Mass.), I don't for the life of me know WHY I have absolutely no memory of this one! It happened on my wedding anniversary, and I live in PA. I DO have a memory of a NY blackout happening much earlier, after my daughter was born in 1996 and BEFORE 9/11! I do remember that it happened during the summer. Guess it's what you'd call a "time slip" or another dimension. WEIRD!

  • haha that ladies holding a bong at 1:05

Thats what i would do if the power went out, smoke weed all night:)

  • i lived in Sound Beach on Long Island then, and our lights were only out for 4 hours, they came back on at 8:30, but I'm sure it's easier to restore power to Long Island compared to NYC. It's BORING on LI when there's no lights.. NYC looks MUCH MORE fun! :)

  • are stephanie and lauren sister? twins? they look really alike. :)

  • wow i remember that day so clearly they was charging like 5$ for a little candle at the bodegas.ive never seen so many people out side and the crazy thing was i didnt even see one cop

  • Does this documentary have any footage of the American media morons incorrectly blaming Canada for the blackout? When all along it started in Ohio.

  • i think that was a joke. nice sense of humour failure.

  • It wasn't a joke. I saw the footage of mayor Giuliani saying it 'definately started in Canada'. Several other shows on CNN afterwards said it started in Canada.

    Nice fact checking failure...

  • how about documentary footage of Canada blaming the US? I thought that was funny.. everyone was blaming everyone...

  • one of the epic videos

oh stop its not epics of epics when there's no youtube ......this video deserves 900 million views

cos in 2003 these people realised and visualised

    its nature .

the incident was a notorious pandemonium in MODERN HISTORY

  • and you sound like an idiot.

  • best thing ever!! i got a new T.V. and about a million other things

  • when i was in new york visiting my relatives the black out started when we were grocery shopping.

  • The 1977 blackout was worse in NYC than this.

  • HOW SO???

  • Go find out yourself, sbc2k1.

  • well i got jumped by stupid people when this happened

  • what are the 5 boroughs?

  • manhattan, brooklyn, queens, bronx, staten island

  • lets get another one please lol....i had fun in nyc thats for sure...

  • Funny how that black out happened right after I left from New York on the 13th. My mom would have had a fit it I were there that day

  • my god was this a terrible time...

  • Terrible? Since When??? This was beautiful. Of course, my job was messed up, but I felt great once back at home with my and other families with candles.

  • well it may have had been a good time up there in NYC, but down here in Detroit, it was godawful. The people over here don't seem to share that special "bond" they do in NY...if ya know what i mean...

  • well, it would've been the same here if the police were'nt so tight on them. Just get all those criminal homeless out of detroit and it would all feel different.

  • Exactly.

  • I got to meet my neighbors and slept under the stars in Brooklyn it was sweet !!!

  • I could not believe i missed this!!! I WAS IN Florida When this HAPPEND!!! but ironcaly the next summer, in 2004 when i was BACK in Florida there was a BLACKOUT, the power was out for 4 days because of hurricane charlie, i guess if u really want something , it can happen!! but it was not the best experince we lost $300 worth of food, N no running water(not to metion how nasty the toliet was)and it was lik 125 degrees ouside even in da night ,

  • haha i remember that, on my 8th birthday, awesome!

  • Nice videos, the series of those 6 videos should become a TV show or something.

  • how many days was the lights out?

  • Total was about 36 hours. We were just being dramatic. :)

  • I'm sorry but I was under the impression that this was a documentary style movie about the event is this a movie or the real thing?

  • Ha! This is actually the real thing. I left work with a video camera and hung out with my neighbors for the who blackout. :)

  • I cannot believe how americans react to not havin electricity... It happens! Its called a power cut... not unsual you know.. Surivial kits? fuk me... come on like, Must be cause in Ireland we get them every week... just do without it... stop over reacting to everything!

  • more people live in NYC than in all of Ireland. over 45 million people live in the northeast of america... man, why do people just comment online without research?

  • i agree and new york is basicly run on electricity

  • Well, we did take a cue from the Irish that day -- we drank for 36 hours straight. ;)

  • @vvillanova nice one cunt

  • @vvillanova no wonder there are unknow crimes...

    ha! just messing

  • @boy1er1990 uhhh its a large city with lots of people and has subways, airports, and highways. you still think it would be easy to not have electricity? think of what you say, up here in Upstate New York, we get power failures, and we just wait it out. that's why i hate most of you people, you think that us americans are fat, lazy, and think about ourselves. go drink some Guinness and watch football, kay?

  • @boy1er1990 blackouts are serious even if it doesnt seem how would you feel if you were trapped in an elivator stuck in a building im pretty sure you'd be freaking out

  • @boy1er1990 yeah what a bunch of fucking homos.. losing their mother fucking mind over some power shortage.. they even made a movie about it..

We got some real blackout for weeks in canada during an ice storm..

  • @boy1er1990 yeah man d fuckin ESB cuttin dat shit the whole time haha

  • @boy1er1990 That's because we don't live in huts like your tribe does. We have something called nuclear waste here. It's spent fuel that will overheat and meltdown if it's temperature is not cooled. How is it cooled? Well idiot, by electricity. What happens when the power goes out? Diesel generators provide power for the fuel. Also, what do you think happens when all the traffic lights in a city of millions gos down? What do you think happens when people in a major city which is in the...

  • @boy1er1990 recent aftermath of terrorist attacks loses all contact with the world? How do they know this isn't a national attack? People are hired by others by what is called a job. And know, we don't carry water back to our tribe. The work ranges from providing people with fresh fruit and vegetables to high tech jobs which power America's infrastructure. You of course, don't have to worry about this because your to busy working with your primitive tribesmen.

  • @thefinalfrontier1701 Just to let you know what would not have been possible without our "tribe". The Apollo missions could not have happened without a type of algebra invented in 1843 by William Rowan Hamilton, We changed the face of modern warfare. by inventing the first successful submarine. Large-scale electricity power stations would not be possible, without the steam turbine invented by Charles Parsons in the 1880s, and still used in power stations around the world.

  • cool video, I LOVE NEW YORK

    BROOKLYN, NYC 4 EVER

  • We had it here one day too, in the middle of rush hour traffic, power fell out over the Central part of the grid. Nothing was working, Traffic lights, Lane signals, the radio stations were off the air, so was the tv. + on the freeway we all rely on up to date speed limits and lane signals to prevent jams. They were off too, total chaos.

(all of this was in Belgium, Europe)

  • God, Mark's so freakin hot.... I'm horny now dammit!

  • I mean Leslie, hehe :P

  • what a marvelous day. we just took out the bbq and had a block party

  • killer bong

  • I remember this day. i had just come off the path train at 9th street and i was riding my bike twards the West 4th street train station when the lights go out so i pretty much had no choice but to ride my bike home. i went downtown, over the brooklyn bridge then took atlantic ave all the way to queens. Longest ride of my life

  • just had one yesterday at night while playing halo and wasn't really prepared.. it was dark and the only light outside was the moon

  • i like a blackout every once in a while

  • i used to live in marcy projects where jay z lived i was about seven years old that was a scary day for me at least no light no game no tv no computer no nothing for light we had to burn candals....people were robbing stores over there....

  • so ur 12 now?

  • The blackout of 2003 has nothing, compare to the blackout of1977.

  • Fuck yeah. I you remind me of my friends here. If the powers not on grab some glowy shit, smoke a cone or pop whatever you want and have yourself a party!!!!

  • Is that 4th and 2nd?

The blackout was fun. I was down on Ludlow where there was a huge street party going on. (finally got busted by cops.) I walked into Motor City and got a free bottle of Bud and chugged it in 5 seconds.

Who needs terrorists when we have Con Ed?

  • you. are. awesome. and yeah, that's 4th & 2nd.

  • If I ws home on he island I would have walked around the city, but during the blackout we were in Balitmore and were not effected by it.

  • Hey where do you live? I want to hang out with you when we have another blackout. Great video.

  • you're cute :)

  • I just watched all 6 parts. You've got some great footage there! Looked like quite the experiance. Very neat! Thanks for sharing, and i loved how you did some of the steet shots. <3
