Although released as "Theme from 'A Summer Place'," the original title of the theme in the film score by Max Steiner was "Molly and Johnny's Theme." It's still considered surprising even today that a 71-year old composer (at the time) who once sat on the lap of the Emperor of Austria and was schooled by Mahler and Richard Strauss and was best-known for "Gone With the Wind" could write something so youthful and exuberant. His response: "I thought the kids would like it." Surely an understatement!
