I'm a wedding videographer and I'm using the pd170. I'd like to step up to this camera with the cmos chips, but I heard there is a problem with the shutter when flashes go off. What do you have to do to correct that?
I have an XL2 now...just shelled 3k canadian for it used...less than 10 hours. Had a ton of extras, but I think I'm gonna hustle it for something with HD capability...have around 3k canadian to play with...ideas?
Duuuuuude... DVCPRO HD is Panasonic's format, not Sony's. And you only get 4:2:2 colorspace from EX1's hdmi-out, not full 4:4:4. Plus CMOS sensor with rolling shutter = jello-effect! Back to school for you guys.
I'm getting an ex1 in a couple weeks, that's how I found this video. After I had a good lol, I proceeded to watch every single video of you guys. The comedy is great, I'm wondering if I'm the only one that actually gets the acting. Keep it up
Hi Nice footage. I own a HVX200 and am thinking I am going to sell it as it just produces so much noise and grain in the image no matter what I do to fight it with light. i was wondering how well the PMW-EX1 is with grain and noise in the image, especially in dark shots? Thanks.
thank you for your answer, another question:the color sampling of almost all of the prosumer cam is 4:2:2,as i know,4:2:2 is better than 4:2:0,so why the color sampling of EX1 is 4:2:0 ?
This was to save space on the cards and keep down the bitrate while sacrificing very little on the image end. Not many prosumer cameras that i know of shoot 1080 and are 4:2:2. The HVX does shoot that way, but does not have nearly the amount of pixels on the image sensor as an EX1. If you find a side by side comparison let me know. Also, you can get 4:2:2 out of the EX1 if you use the SDI output!
so this is a MPEG 2 cam,and sony created the MPEG4 H.264 format,i thought this MPEG4 H.264 will lead the future and replace MPEG2,so what is going on now?
Well from my knowledge of H.264, it is far from ready to be a shootable format, it takes a huge amount of processing power and has a very complicated algorithm. This has slowed its ability to be adopted in mainstream use the way it would have had it not been so complex.
I picked one of these bad boys up. My biggest complaints are the lack of HDMI, the expense of the SxS cards relative to other flash media, the fact that the mp4 files do not play natively on the ps3, and the lack of hdmi! The colors and clarity are amazing though.
Very funny! I am getting mine today! This is how reviews should be done -- very creative and entertaining. My man has a bit of a Tracy Morgan styled comedic mannerism, but he's funny none-the-less.
If you check out our home page, which i cannot type here because youtube does not allow links, i have posted a link below this video that has a great article describing the intricacies of these two types of image sensors.
You've probably figured this out, but you can put your web address in the video description. And for comments people usually do shirtlessapprentice(dot)com.

Wait a seconded do you need the SONY PMW-EX30 XDCAM EX Recording Deck to use this camera or does the footage go in the computer from firewire
sexydanny21awesome 3 years ago
You can use the camera to load footage, but a better bet would be to use your Mac Book Pro or buy a cheap express card reader!
