  • Replacment on Amazon - 2.5" SATA HDD. Measure and compare dimensions if unsure. If you mean where to find HDD on your netbook, the models manufactured in the past couple of years provide easy access by removing the largest of the multiple access plates on the bottom of the netbook. If older, it is possible you may have to remove the keyboard to access. If this doesn't address your question, please reply with more details. Best of luck!

  • can you make one about findong the HDD?

  • Although replacing the hard drive is simple, finding the part, if you don't know how and where to look, can be difficult and time consuming. If your hard drive crashes or you want to upgrade, this will help. Good luck!

  • can you use this hardrive for a ps3

  • Hey there are two types of ACer Aspire ONE. There are two: 1) is 8.9 inches. The other one is 10 inc. Is this harddrive is for the 8.9 inches Acer aspireone? Is the harddrive good for both? Please explain. THanks.

  • @llubke1 No Problem.

  • I think this was the same error I had when my hard drive originally crashed. Likely means your computer is not recognizing your hard drive. If rebooting isn't working, then you will likely need a hard drive replacement. If it is getting old, consider buying a new one if finances allow. Good luck!

  • I have an acer aspire 5253 and it dropped and then like 2 or 3 weeks after i get no bootable device insert disk. What to do -.-

  • @umraugh I don't know if you still need help, but someone online said to hit the back of the computer against a wall really hard...amazingly that seems to have worked (i'm typing on it now)

  • @MbeeTeen No I mean mine is working but sometimes when i restart my pc i get the error should i still try this?

  • If there is no specific diagnosis (i.e., unsure what broke when dropped), I would just look at replacing. If you live near a huge wholesale club (e.g., Costco, Sam's Club, BJ's, etc.), you should find one there at the best price. If not, then Amazon is the way to go. Either way, shop Amazon first to make sure you are getting the best deal. Best of luck!

  • I dropped my acer aspire one

The mini one and it says that mine is failing

Info? Can I fix it? Where can I get a new one

  • Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this error. You may try reinstalling with the recovery discs to see if this helps. If not, and if easy enough to do, exchange the new hard drive to be certain it was not damaged during transit. You may also google your error message to see if you can pick up a useful thread. Good luck, and please post your solution if you fix this error to help others who may encounter the same problem in the future.

  • I did all the steps and it sees the new 3209GB SATA drive but keeps saying disk is near failure and I can't partition it. It worked fine in another amchine the day before so I think it is OK any hints on a fix or an error I could have done reassembling that would cause this?

  • One important info missed out is the interface. This is a SATA drive instead of PTA

    ( IDE )

  • @TheMrHoj Yes it is. Thanks for clarification.

  • that is not the one I hjave D257 - 13473 that is what I am trying to look up

  • Also how i replace it without having errors on pc startup

  • @theodorekaradimas007 - It is my understanding you need to either have the backup disks you were instructed to create upon purchasing and setting up your computer or contact Acer to have them mailed to you. This is a necessary step once you have installed the new drive to restore your operating system. Kind of stinks that Acer doesn't provide them with your computer when you bought it, but I guess they figured they could get us to create them so they save on the cost of the CDs. Good Luck!

  • Is this a 2.5 inch drive?so i can replace for Acer aspire one ZG8

  • @theodorekaradimas007 - Not familiar with the ZG8, so I can not reply with any certainty. However, you should be able to remove your old drive and check the dimensions and port configurations before ordering your new one. Hope this helps somewhat. Best wishes!

  • @actionjksn Good comments and thanks for adding some clarification. Wish I had known this info at the time. Happy computing!

  • Acer Aspire One Compatible? Are you aware that virtually any 2.5 inch sata hard drive is compatible? It is a very standard size for laptops. Some netbooks have sata 1.8 inch form factor, but most netbooks that have a conventional hard drive use a standard 2.5 form factor. Some higher capacity models have more platters and be slightly thicker, but they will still fit. The reason the picture looked different is, it was showing the innards of a hard drive. That round thing was the platter or disk.

  • Was not even aware they made them for this model yet and haven't seen them offerred off the shelf this way, so my guess is no, but don't give up if you are inclinded to find out. Maybe search the reviews for this model at Amazon to see if someone else has already done it? This is how I discovered the suggestion to immediately upgrade the RAM from 1 GB to 2GB. Lots of helpful info in there and you can do a keyword search on "solid state." Would be cool if you can. Best of luck!

  • do you know if it's possible to install a solid state drive to this computer?

  • @xblast196

Stands to reason it should work, you'd want to check if the SATA socket match tough, the SATA-controller should do the rest.

  • Flattered you would ask, but I don't use this particular computer for gaming. However, if you want to get the most out of this computer, you could try going with a 7200 rpm hard drive and 2 GB RAM upgrade (1 GB is standard off the shelf). These were the best upgrades available at the time I did this. I would suggest checking Amazon to see if there are better upgrades available. Remember, however, stick with 2.5" SATA drive so it will fit assuming you have an Aspire One. Best of luck!

  • im try to upgrade my hard drive(360gb 5400rpm) to bigger & fast 1 for game

which hard drive do i have to purchase?

    thank you.

  • @a2z2home

That depends on what you plan to do with it, Netbooks like this one are not made for gaming, no upgrades are really going to make any difference.

If you want raw speed, you'd need a SSD disk, no movable parts make it resistant to blunt force and they don't eat as much battery, but they are small and not cheap.

If you want size, a normal 2,5" 7200rpm gives you a lot of size for the money, the speed can't be compared to the SSD tough.

That said, for gaming, get a better computer.

  • I have a zg5 model aspire one. Its looks idenical to this one besides the bay on the bottom. I was sold a 2.5 drive and there was no place to place it. my drive seems to be a litle card inside but cant find one to replace. any help or suggestions please

  • @dossen2620 Some of the older models require keyboard removal to access the hard drive, and from the videos I have seen, the procedure looks quite complicated. If your computer is older, rumor has it the price on these things are going to drop to around $200 for the holidays vrey soon, so it may be time to replace the whole thing. Best of luck!

  • do you think that i can put this(Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS Mobile Hard Drive - 500GB, 2.5", 7200RPM, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM) in the zg5

  • @ddejean I wish I had a solid answer for you, but like I said in the video, I am not qualified to answer. The only suggestion I have is, if you want to try, purchase it from a place with a generous return policy (e.g., big box local store) and give it a try. If it doesn't work out, just return it. Good luck!

  • it's nice to see they put access panels on the bottom now, some don't and you pretty much have to take apart the whole netbook just to get to the hdd and ram

  • @experimental0000 So true. Some of the older replacement videos have you taking apart the keyboard to get access to other components. So much for plug and play. Good luck These are great little machines, and my guess is they will be closer to $199.99 in time for the holiday season. Happy computing!

  • @experimental0000

I kinda liked that, however I love to disassemble, upgrade and reassemble these kind of things. So I guess I can't really imagine how others would feel about it.

  • The other (smaller) removable panel is for a mini-PCI card. Also, you definitely do want to remove both the power cable and the battery.

  • @llubke1 Thanks for updating the info. Take care.

  • @llubke1 Woops, typo. mini PCIe (PCI Express) is what I meant to type.

  • @MattandCayley28

The power cable is required since an overload would pretty much bust the computer, the battery is not required but recommended, should anything short-circuit the computer might not be usable afterwards, if you're unsure what you're doing or upgrading anything, always unplug both.

  • i have a wd scorpio blue 250gb in my acer aspire one,It lists for 99$ U.S. In your opinion how good is this hd,and what would be better hd for 99$

  • @paperbachwriter1 If you have one installed, working, and 250gb is enough storage space, I would stick with what you have. You could upgrade from the blue to black version and go from 5400rpm to 7200 rpm, but the negligible speed increase may not be worth the money, especially if you primarily use your netbook for surfing the web. Read the reviews at Amazon before making the purchase. This is just one person's opinion. At Amazon, you can get many. Cheers!

  • how much did you pay for the hdd and what performance increase did you notice?

  • @paperbachwriter1 - I think it was around $70, but check on Amazon for current price. About 30% increase in speed/performance. Not a huge difference, but every little bit helps. Good luck!

  • i crashed my drive and it is now inoperable, after you replace the hard drive, how did you recover all the files since the laptop has no cd rom? thanks.

  • @draztikbeast - I had created recovery discs when I first purchased the computer. Once I replaced the hard drive, I used these to recover the system files. If you didn't do this, I believe you can order the discs from ACER. Good luck!

  • @draztikbeast

Do you have a stationary computer with 2 SATA ports leftover? you could try to do a hard copy of the old hard drive to the new hard drive in that case. Google "hard copy of hard drive" , can't recommend any since I've only used one once.

However, if your old one is busted you might as well install the OS fresh. If you want Windows, Acer should be able to help you with that.

Or if you want to try something new, try installing Linux. Linux Mint is ideal for a Windows user.

  • I've been given a cheap variant to fix. Turns out it has almost no access panels and a 1.8" ZIF drive. Talk about pathetic... be cheaper to buy a secondhand 14" or 15" laptop instead of dealing with this one.

  • good video thanks mate!

  • @JmVntR You're very welcom. Hope it helped.

  • @llubke1 Hi my hard drive didnt crash but i have virus on it if i change the hard drive will the virus be gone? and if i go to the shop will they help me delete the virus? or what.

  • @JackMs100 Not an expert, and there are many types of viruses, but my guess is the virus has to reside in some type of writable media like your hard drive, flash drive, SD card, etc. If you can spare the cash, replace the drive, but info is mostly free so you may want to ask your local "Geek Squad" type person the same question. Good luck!

  • @llubke1 thanks for ur help i found a shop to help me reformat my pc for 50 dollars sg bucks :D i am going tmr to fix it but it takes one day haha

  • @JackMs100 i'm a computer expert, try downloading AVG Free, i recommend it to all my customers. if the virus isn't deleted by avg then you might have to either buy a new hdd or just format and reinstall windows.

  • @JackMs100

Maybe you should just format the hd?

Remember that "Viruses" work only with Windows , so leave Windows and you will leave all viruses

  • @Dante1969

The only reason to format a hard drive is for first time use (partitioning) and if you can't boot from them. There are workarounds to improve the responsiveness of the computer without blowing it clean: clean/repair the registry, remove unused software, stop unnecessary services from running and de-fragmenting to name a few.

Not entirely true about the viruses, they exist in Linux and Mac to, though harmless unless you allow them to. It's safe to say most of them are for Windows.

  • Wd is netter then seagate in speed

  • .... How to replace my 8gb ssd hard drive to higher capacity non ssd hard drve on acer aspire one? Please help! Thanks!

  • If you have an 8gb hard drive, you are probably working with an older version of the Aspire One. It is my understanding that the older versions require removal of the keyboard and the fix is a lot harder. Keep cruising the web though. There are other videos out there that should help. Good luck, and thanks for your comment!

  • Hi I'm an acer aspire one user. I just wanna know how to upgrade it's hard drif

  • Thank you. :)

  • google newegg

Thank You for mentioning sata there are two common laptop drive's one is ata-6 and the other being sata

  • Thanks for comment. Just trying to help out since Acer refused to make the fix as simple as it turned out to be. Best wishes!

  • Please post more videos! Forever grateful. Thanks.

  • Wow!!!!! Thank you so much! That was so informative. You made it so simple and stress free. I was able to find a hard drive replacement and place my order in less than five minutes. Finally, someone that speaks English and not techno-geek!
