  • what is the book's overall thesis?

  • Excerpt from foreword: Wherever else the terror had happened, we, at least, had not been visited by Orwellian nightmares."

2001 began the implementation of Orwell's nightmare as a second layer of control.

So, in essence, 1984 showed up in 2001 and joined Huxley who was already and still is on the scene.

Neil was premature in declaring victory over Orwell. Couldn't see their tandem use. Was thinking within a false dichotomy.

  • This book is excellent, it is one of my all time favorite books. I was required to read it in a communications class at my CCP before I graduated.

  • Today I realised how true the idea that you cannot use certain mediums to present certain ideas really is. A few days ago I wrote on a youtube video "Don't you think life is more than just travelling and getting massages?" (or something to that effect). People responded by calling me a trol, a bitch, and said that no one gives a shit about my opinions.

Because of youtube's entertainment focused environment, and it's character limit, make youtube comments a hostile environment for serious.

  • @Cookiecutter87 ....discussion. It is not impossible for you to make an interesting point on youtube, but it is not the best medium. I am glad that some one (such as yourself) is trying to do something interesting and creative with the medium, despite it's somewhat "TV-like" metaphor. Very helpful and good job.

  • very helpful thanks you
