  • i goto bed at 10pm and wake up at 3am on the dot i then stay up till 2pm where ill sleep till 5pm i find eating a greasy chicken & gravy sandwich and stripping nude helps me sleep quicker , only down side to sleeping the right way is that your not aloud to scoff meat & sleep in the nood at work is why i prefer doing shifts

  • you're also hurting yourself by working against your bodies natural abilities. humans are not nocturnal beings, so even if you get 8 hours, but get them mainly during daylight hours, this is not good on your body. that's why people who work graveyard shifts are not as healthy because they are working against their bodies natural time schedule. Look it up in science journals. of course science is not fact, but it's what we have now from research. btw - my hours are like yours.

  • This is exactly what I try to explain to my teachers when they should just STFU and let me sleep. At that point if I'm that sleepy I'm probably gonna fail whatever assignment we have whether I'm awake or sleep.

  • People who get 8+ hours sleep a night have shorter lives than people who sleep 4-7.

    Remember some studies a while back about the average life span anf the amoutn of time they slept.

    I get as many as a I need, sometimes sleep, sometimes don't :)

  • I get between 6 and 5 normally, but I havn't slept all night atm, ... didnt realize the time and when I discovered it was 4:36 I descided to stay awake :P

  • It depends what age you are. Older people don't need as much. Younger usually needs more.

  • It also varies from person to person. I definitely can't do well without at least 8, though I occasionally get only 6, and I've gone days with only 3.

    And sleep doesn't have a beta stage... Beta is actually perfect awareness (gamma is hyper awareness and generally nervousness, Alpha is relaxation, Theta is a trance, and Delta is sleep) I'm not sure whether REM is in Theta or Delta, though... I'd think Theta, since your brain is supposed to be pretty active in that time.

  • I get 6 hours of sleep, but I have to take melatonin if I haven't been physically active. Intense exercise a few hours a day is my key to good sleep. I went through undergrad and grad getting terrible sleep -- pulling 1 or 2 all nighters per week. I start to really fall apart after being awake for 36 hours (twice my norm). Everything takes on a dream-like quality and then I just crash -- doesn't matter what I'm doing. This is probably very bad for one's brain.

  • Delayed sleep phase syndrome - DSPS - nightowlness you are describing. Shifted phase, but get regular number of hours. Can be adjusted sometimes by using lightboxes and melatonin, but usually rather built-in. Glad you have work that fits your sleep pattern. That can be hard to find for folks with DSPS, then they suffer to try to fit into main stream.
