  • I concur that the tune Calon Lan is actually the tune most commonly known by the hymn title What A Friend We Have In Jesus. These are two very different but both beautiful tunes.

  • @Totalfog - re: those people you mentioned. The second man (in glasses) is Mario Testino, the photographer. As for the others - no idea. I think the cameraman was just pleased to find people who actually knew the hymn. Very rare in England nowadays. The lady wasn't in mourning, but there's no point in trying to upstage a full military No.1 dress uniform - blend is the name of the game.

  • 2:11 someone is bored...lol.

  • It's Jesu, not Jesus. :)

  • thanks for putting in the lyrics, too! This is a beautiful rendition of this song- the whole wedding was wonderful; and the music was spectacular

  • A beautiful hymn. For those of us on the other side of the pond, could someone identify a few people in the congregation who were highlighted by the camera? At 1:05 there was a familiar young man in the middle of the picture. At 1:09 there was a gentlemen with horn-rimmed glasses who seemed to be an important person. At at 2:12 next to (I believe) the Duke of Gloucester, there was a woman who appeared to be in mourning. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

  • Always a great hymn to a great tune.

  • Beautiful! CMW Australia

  • I feel that, while very fine and ethereal, the descants on the hymns at this wedding lacked a tone of jubilation. They would've been better suited for a funeral or a memorial service.

  • @nauort23 cos his mam diana loved the hymn

  • This one "Love Divine" is ok, the best I have heard of the music at the wedding not including "I Was Glad".

  • @LyricalXilence the best versions of these are sung by the welsh in welsh in chapel communities as passionate

  • @3tangle3

I love Welsh. Not in any way wishing to put down "Calon Lân", but the words of "Love Divine" are so meaningful. Is there any Welsh translation of this hymn?

  • @xianweijing blaenwern is not calon lan.....love divine is the same tune as the welsh blaenwern

  • @3tangle3

The hymn Calon Lân has its own original tune, which I know well. However, I have often encountered it set to Blaenwern. Cerys Matthews has recorded it to the original tune, but finishes it off with a refrain of Blaenwern.

The point I was trying to make is that I would like to know if there is a Welsh translation of "Love Divine".

  • @xianweijing hey no worries....my family and I are welsh folk singers I see ALL!!

  • Love the trees!

  • James O'Donnell's thrilling arrangement is now published by Encore Publications in Two Hymns from the Royal Wedding.
