  • you didnt get in the part where he gets the quadruple finger tap when you do the slide on the 11/12/11 something around there that one is pretty annoying i didnt notice that part until i saw him play live and i went and relearned that part of the song after but other than that prety damn good a lot cleaner than mine ill put a response when i get it cleaner

  • Nice simon&patrick!(is it is) He he!

  • GREATT!!!i like this song very much en this is the best cover i hurt!(soory for by bad inglish)

  • ncie work man!..give me a response on my cover:)

  • so talented

  • gooooood!!

  • nice work budz....i wish i could do that.

  • Excellent man. True talent.

  • again. awesome.

better than i could ever do.

i am horrible at tapping is part of the reason xD.

and the other reason is that you are probably all pro.

how do you make the tapping so loud and distinct?

i get these ugly "after sounds" if you can call them that.

  • I know what you mean, I have the same. Just keep practising, try to tap both relaxed and with strength at the same time (its tough ;)) and maybe try a different string thickness.

  • What they don't tell you is that the action on Andy Mckee's (And all good quality) acoustic guitar is super low. Meaning that the strings, even at the 12th fret, are super low to the fret board. I had to take mine in to set it really low, in order to play this song without ugly after sounds. Also, it depends on how relaxed your fingger tips are when tapping.

  • tap hard.

  • no too bad atall :D Needs filling out though if you know what i mean :)

And btw i think all your other covers are great

  • Not bad for starters. You'll soon get a hold of it :)

  • (great cover btw i just forgot to tell you that)

  • PLZ tell me how to make that sound just by tapping the chors i can play the other parts of the sonf quite easily but when i tap the chords it just wont work help meeee

  • best cover have seen so far... and that song could never be lifeless.. thanx for sharing.. :)

  • nice. real good.

  • good job. i tried it too. check out my video ;-)

  • Mines coming up REAL soon for this, I love playing this more than anything..It's a great tune when all your mates are stoned lol - and they just mong out at you playing..."dude....that's so freaking chilling man"..haha

  • Best cover I've seen so far.Keep it up.Hows Ouray coming on.Try some Antoine Dufour I have learnt Glimmer of Hope . Just need to practice it constantly for the next 6 months.

  • Kommt schon ganz gut..!

  • speak english douche

  • my boyfriend has become an avid fan of Andy McKee recently and I must say that this cover is absolutely amazing. Great Great job!!!

  • Loved it :)

    is that a taylor?

  • I wish! No it's a Simon & Patrick that desperately needs proper setting up.

  • Any1 who can even play remotely this good deserves respect, great job, inspiring =]

  • Really, it's not as hard as it looks.

    Try playing some Eric Johnson...

  • i beg to differ, to keep a steady beat like that is very difficult. plus eric johnson is in no way the same style as andy mckee

  • hey elviolli this is a really good cover! im a beginner and iv really taken a spark to fingerstyle but im just no good right now! (mostly just substituting my thumb for a pick) any tips on improvement, or songs i could learn??

  • Well, I wouldn't consider this fingerstyle...it's sort of a style it's own. I'm currently learning fingerstyle as well, and practicing hard on another Andy McKee tune called 'Ouray' off his Nocturne CD. I'll post a clip of it one of these days..when it's good enough.

  • You're great. if you want a better clear sound, just connect the guitar to a monitor or a speaker or whatever, set the Reverb to 80% and the treble to 30% and you'll send alot better :) keep up with the good work!

  • It's a standalone acoustic guitar with no pickup....I'll have to spend money to sound better.

  • FYI nobody will be able to make a clear sound b/c their guitars are not setup up like andy's. They have a special pick-up for this style of playing

  • Good stuff man.. keep it up

  • Keep on playing man! sounds great

  • practice makes perfect...

  • It's nice.. but you never beat Andy Mckee :)

  • not bad at all. but, I think you need to make clear sound.

  • pretty good, almsot there

alot better than most people say

    keep it up

  • it sounds like u gotta mic the guitar also to hear the tapped notes, theyre kinda quiet on this recording, nice work tho im in the middle of learning this myself

  • i cant get the rythem for the bit after the intro, i keep tapping my hand on the guitar at the wrong point in the music, u got any tips?

  • Do it reaaaaaally slow and really concentrating on coordinating the guitar slaps with the correct note...eventually your brain will get the idea.

  • How many years you have of playing under your belt...just wondering...

  • Well, I have many years 8-10? Of electric guitar playing under the belt...but I never really seriously picked up an acoustic until about last November.

  • nice one mate thats really good, did you use the tab from the internet or did you order it from his web site? I currently on the first few seconds of the song and its not easy to hit the strings and make an actual sound like you have done.

  • I purchased the Nocturne songbook when it was still available. Although the recording that comes with it is like 4 years old or something and it's quite different than his youtube version...so I adapted to his more current style.

  • great thanks for the info i think he sells it all electronic now either from his web site or from candyrat. He must be rich by now.

  • Good job! the best cover i'e senn so far. No perfect, but better than i can do right now =)

  • U DID IT MY BOY!! CONGRATULATIONS!!

  • elviolli i'm kind of confused on how to play the song with my right hand. do you use fingers or whatnot? i'm sort of an intermediate guitarist so i'd like to learn the style of fingerpicking. i'm pretty sure i can do the rest (meaning what notes to actually play) by ear.

  • Well it's mostly tapping with the forefinger then plucking the open strings with the middle and ring fingers or tapping then strumming with the middle fingernail. That's how I approach the song.

  • then lets see you do it

  • do you have a site or something that could help me find a way to learn to fingerstyle like that or like andy mckee? thanks

  • Dude, you're fucking incredible!!!!

  • Really nice attempt. I think some extra attention should go out to the note picking of the right hand, it's not that hard once you get the hang of it. And concerning prinzofdark, he probably doesn't realize he's 'a loser copying stuff' as well when he's singing in the shower. He hasn't posted any vids yet, so I guess he's not too great with inventing new songs either :)

  • Yes, right hand accuracy is a big problem for me when the record light is on. I really don't have this much trouble playing the song normally.

  • what can i add, prinzofdark, get a life, elviolli, fantastic, not as good as andy mckee obviously, but much respect given for ur talent, i've been playing guitar a long time and the hardest thing to do is to cover another guitarist's work, because of criticism from idiots like prinzofdick or whatever he is called. Great vid

  • So... the "prinzofdark" knows that there's a tailpipe somewhere nearby that he can use to put himself out of our misery, right? Unbelievable. I loved your renditition of "Drifting", which is damn near impossible to do even moderately well, and you did a great job. Not perfect, but no one expects perfection all the time. Except the prinz. What an absolute waste of valuable oxygen. Dear prinz - please stop breathing. Love, Me.

  • ah right lucky you! haha ive learnt by ear so far, sounds good but i want to get it exact XD, nice playin!

  • For prinzofdark to have been playing guitar for the last thirty years, it seems like he'd have some videos of himself playin' up on here. I guess he'd rather gloat about his faux accomplishments, though. Understandable. Anyway, good job on the cover, man.

  • prinzofdark can suck my fat one, ur a dick. by the way, u play drifting well!! i can barely do the intro lol!!

  • hey mate did u order the tabs off his site? if so how long did they take to come cuz ive waited a week so far

  • apladz, yes I was lucky enough to order his tab book before the big youtube explosion. It took a couple of weeks, but he's run out of books until about summer time dude. Andy says he's posted them somewhere on his site but I can't find them. Good luck in your search.

  • This is the best try i've seen in YouTube! congratulations

  • yes i do play guitar. for the last 30 years actually and i teach.

  • Well then these are dark times for sure when fellow guitar players are calling others down just for trying something. Shame on you.

  • Hey, Elviolli - don't worry about prinzofdark. If I could come within a bulls roar of playing "drifting" like you do, I would be proud.

  • To be honest there is no skill in copying someone else. all it takes is a bit of practice. if you want to impress then write your own songs.

  • Wow. You sound like a real inspirational guitar teacher.

  • Ok far dues you got the slaps right, its just the rest thatsucked. why do you people even try to copy andy mckee, who has taken years to perfect his technique and then losers come along and think they can learn in a couple of days.

  • Do you play guitar? We (guitar players old and new) try and copy Andy because we see it as a good challenge. While my effort may not be stellar, I'm still somewhat proud of the accomplishment and it's on youtube because it's an easy way to share this accomplishment with family and friends who may want to see it. Lighten up man.

  • You need to chill out, man. Sure, it wasn't as good as Andy's version, but no-one is as good as him. I thought this was a pretty decent effort. Should I look forward to seeing your version?

  • yeah and when stupid shits go out of thier way and post hoping the'll change peoples minds... that one pisses me off too

  • have been watching you play guitar for 13 years or so...blows me away every time I see you pick up a new song like this in hours.

  • Techincaly the best cover i seen for Drifting. Well done. The sound is the only thing. If that was recorded with a better mic would be great. You got the tapping in the middle bits down man and same with the timing. A lof of covers im watching dont.

  • drifting takes a lot of skill, nice work

  • if you got a better mic this would have sounded better, but great job nonetheless!

  • good!

  • well done! not bad at all!

  • Too fast but good job :P

  • it sounds a little bit strange, but you play the song right. I think it comes through the record.. Don't feel bad about, people who say it's a bad cover. You can play the song, be proud! And to everyone who says it's bad: I haven't seen any cover from you of this song..?

    Nice try!

  • your sleeves were muffing the sound, lol

  • yeah nce try. Gota ask what tuning the songs in?

  • good try :) you almost got it down.

  • Stop stop stop! You're only damaging your guitar....Nice try...

  • screw you...this guy is not bad

  • id like to see you play it mate
