Never was never a separatist and he never dreamt of breaking up the country. He talked about power to Muslims where there were in majority and power to Hindus where they were in majority.

@gunahgaar86 Right in this poem and many others. "Khanjar-Hilal Ka hai qaumi nishan hamara". Basically Iqbal presented the concept of Islam being our national identity. That of course does not mean hostility towards Indians. The hostility arose when the Indians Indians refused to cede territory that was Muslim majority.
@gunahgaar86 Power but not sovereignty ? We are splitting hairs here aren't we?. This Nazm has the same Radeef as his child hood poem Sara Jahen Se Accha Hindustan Hamara. By writing a poem in the same Radeef with opposite message, Iqbal in fact meant to repudiate his earlier message.
In his poem "Wattaniat" Mohommad Iqbal has repudiated the very concept of nationality, Indian or otherwise and proclaim Islam is the only thing worthy of commanding a Muslim's absolute loyalty.
