The sharpshooters on the cliff were using " Peabody Martini Long Range Creed moor Rifle"s....and guess what..google this rifle ...there's an original,up for sale..in calibre 44/100 at 19thcenturyweapons (14 photos) & reads > overall ex_plus condition extremely scarce 1000 yard rifle in "to die for " condition ...$15,000 ........check out the photos.. beautiful rifle.
THP was widely reviled by the critics when it was released in 1971. After a series of violent films released that year they got fed up with all the blood and guts and retrenched to a comfortable "morally responsible" position, although it's not hard to see why they were so repulsed. After almost 40 years this is still a shockingly brutal movie. There is no attempt to hide anything, everything is in your face. It does make a good double bill with the other Bergen western, Soldier Blue, though.
Oh!! Ollie! Ollie! why did you have to drink yourself to death, destroying your looks and health? You could still be around making movies and living a good life! What made him have to feel he had to stay under the influence 90% of the time? He was so sexy when he was young. I miss him sooo much!!! Denise9482
Oliver Reed had to speak in a "cowboy" way. He was very British and spoke in a distinguished proper manner. I am a big Oliver fan but through this movie I kept expecting him to say , Oh piss off!, or, what the bloody hell is going on?, But I still liked the movie. I love westerns and Oliver Reed too so I'll give it a 10. Denise9482
could some kind person put the first massacre from this film on here? iff i remember correctly, the first man shot is taking a shit when he takes a round in the head! funny and sick!!
This is a really great film in the Peckinpah tradition, it was a rarity for many years with no VHS release or anything, but fortunately it has now been released to DVD, and it also shows on Encore Westerns quite often. Check it out!

The best scene in the movie is when Oliver Reed and Candice Bergen are eating peaches together beneath the wagon. Why don't you upload this scene?
