  • I knew your father when we were both students at North Texas State University and we had church jobs in back of each other in Sherman, Tx. He was an extremely gifted player. He also liked my mother's cooking. Years go by and things change and I think you ought to think about removing this video in fairness to him.

  • Accolades for his effort.

  • Certainly are a lot of cruel judges here. This piece is the very devil to play. Would that all of you who are so cavalier at throwing rocks at this gentleman could play half as well.

  • Put me in touch with Barney, please! We taught together at LCP in Glendora!

  • Please don't be so bad with your comments because you can heart the sensibility of the person who is playing and do his best.

  • Awful.

  • The organ sounds like a calliope and the playing is morose. The room must have acoustic tile on the ceiling and the walls. The dullest under achievement I've witness on YouTube pipe organ video. Mein Gott, did I actually listen all the way through that?

  • at least he tried... this is a VERY difficult piece -- i know -- i try to play it as well on occasion... i'm thrilled to see anybody take up the challenge!

  • Ugh... the only thing I could hear during this video was the sound of Jehan Alain turning in his grave. Absolutely one of the worst. PLEASE search for Marie Claire actually PLAYING what her brother wrote!

  • Accept the criticism quality playing.

However Mr Tiller understands spirit of Alain's work, something Virgil Fox did not.

This work is literally a battle with God.

Despair, repeated pleading almost an argument, refusals from above.

    Well done.

  • Virgil played this piece better than most organists. I wonder what you think of Diane Bish playing it.

  • Neither Virgil nor Bish are people to listen to when learning this piece. Listen to Marie-Claire Alain...Jehan Alain's siter.

  • terrible! watch other versions here on youtube.

  • Actually I think he didn't do all that bad. It's alot better I'm sure than what could have been done. Well done Mr. Tiller!

  • Comment removed

  • its not good!

  • Pénible à écouter. Pas de dynamique, lourd, très lourd! MY GAWD !

  • This is apalling! An utterly dreadful performance

  • No, really, it's not Uncle Sam... it's Colonel Sanders!

  • a piece isn't perfect, if you only play correct notes. but there are too many mistakes!! please go on practising and don't play concerts, if you're not ably to play...sry

  • I'm sorry but this is dreadful. Good on you for learning it but it is full of gross errors. Similar to the americans in kandahar...

  • Is that Rolf Harris? Or is it Uncle Sam?

  • Bad performance. Too many mistakes and the page turner looks like a chicken with it's head cut off he is moving around so much. PRACTICE BARNEY!!!

  • i also wish your registrant might stop moving around so.

  • indeed of the hardest and most wonderful pieces in the organ rep. with some more work in several sections, this could be great. My teacher studied with Marie Claire in Paris, so it was interesting to able to study it with him.

  • Ho, my god. How can people appreciate this music? I don't even talk about the music, but the organ. I really hate how it sounds. I have to study that fucking org

  • an piece for my exams and I can't stand it grrr

  • Hi ! I have to study that too.

There's nothing to talk about this !

    it's horrible.

  • I sure hope Marie-Claire hasn't seen this butchering of her brother's piece!

  • Appauling - Keep Practising!

  • It will be a nice piece once you spend some more time and learn it. Thanks for sharing with us.

  • Barney, you did great!

Pay no attention to the organ bitch comments above by organist wannabees.

  • I agree

  • Litanies is a joy to play. Try not to use a registrant, even if you have to leave out the quick great to pedal changes. It is not that complex. The rhythmic impulse of a repeated prayer turning into pure spirit drives this piece. No worries about the "Bats out of hell" section, with those impossible chords. Nobody frets over them. I like the deliberate tempo. Maybe even more deliberate and rhytmic, next time you use this. Thanks for posting it.

  • It is a bit awkward and cuted

  • What exactly is the point of showing him messing around with Litanies? A concert situation is already stressing, and you add a camera. That poor man is nervous enough!

  • Beautiful...

I absolutly LOVE the sound of these organs :D

  • I didn't like this performance at all. Keep practicing

  • Read Marie-Claire Alain's notes on the performance of this piece.

  • lol nut guys, jehan alain was a mad guy, he's the only person who can play as fast this piece. A very great organist

  • Very slow !!

Please play faster ! Jehan Alain said it in a letter, don't mind if you leak some notes, that mustn't be a marmelade, it must be light and flying over the notes !

  • oula pas bon, ça se joue beaucoup plus rapidement en vrai, puis l'interprétation j'aime pas trop...

  • poorly played, keep practicing

  • yes not bad but it's a bit slow

    good

  • Is that Colonel Sanders???

  • I'm working on it, I have to do introduce the organ and this piece to students next week.

  • keep practicing!

  • you got that right...and nothing worse than the page turner making more body movement than the organist - very distracting (along with all the 'grace notes' and wrong notes:( that never would have passed at one of my doctoral recitals

  • I love this piece - good show, guys.
