i think it's not that good to show students since they're little children just a way to do things.. it should be better to explain everything: windows, linux, mac, eyeos..
when they'll and they'll find different programs, different operating systems.. it's not good to base all on eyeos, it's not good to base all on windows, or on linux or on mac..
it's not cheaper because you will then need better pc's. the only thing you need for eyeOS is a browser.
for a linux distro you will need better hardware: for the graphical environment you will need a better cpu, for openoffice etc. you will need a bigger hdd...
also eyeOS is much easier to administrate because you have only one system that it running on - lets say - 500 pc's (from one server). linux will need 500 systems (on every pc).
yes, linux is a real OS & much better. but not for children
I was talking on the comparisation between linux and windows or mac. I think we can both agree that linux is cheaper than other operating systems.
Who said you need better hardware for linux? Better than what? EyeOS needs only a browser, but to run a browser you need a real computer and a real operating system.. have u ever heard about virtualisation? one server, 500 virtual client. With virtualisation you'll learn a real os.
i use virtualisation but its everithing else then cheap if you can instead use a server for 30€ per YEAR to use eyeOS for 500 clients. you need nothing than a normal webspace. no SQL nothing...
sure you need an OS, but Kolibri 0.7.0.0 is enough. openoffice alone needs MUCH more RAM than that OS. but working on Kolibri? to many problems...
they really dont have that much money, its a smal school in spain, not an university in america
i don't think u understood what i'm tryin to explain, maybe i'm not explainin it that good.
EyeOS is a beautiful thing, cheaper and faster than other solutions. To access eyeOS you certainly need a computer, ok? In this computer you certainly have to install an os. There u have 3 alternatives: windows, mac, linux. What's the cheaper? Who the hell talked about openoffice brick? There are many alternatives..
lookin the video then.. i don't think this school goes cheap with the hardware park.
i think i have understood you but what do you want to do with a OS? looking at it? ;D you must have the possibility to work with it. so, you need something like openoffice (its not the thing you would choose, ok, but you need something - IF you use linuxto work. you need nothing if you will use eyeOS. therefore cheeper hardware. you will not need an HDD because Kolibri is loading itself completely in RAM). and yes, linux is the cheepest & best thing ever but in my oppinion, not for this school
True, but most of the schools are using Windows on their computers, because it's the simplest OS for users. Other OSs like Linux are more suitable for programmers, who know how to work on a console, how to use commands, like in DOS, to know what is an extension, to work on a server, etc.
Also, Windows is simpler for the teachers, who will usually have a problem learning a complicated OS like Linux, and you can't install a different OS on each computer, or to use Multi-Boot, and to install so much OSs on one computer.
BTW, I am a programmer too, and I like Windows more than other OSs. I tried Linux once, and I couldn't do anything on it, even to install software on it, and I know other who is also programmers, and use Windows because it more comfortable for them, although they don't like some of the features which are meant for novices on computers, and prevent for them to do something in the "easy" way (easy for them).
uuh.. i guess u've never used linux before.. isn't it?
i use it, and it's totally suitable without console, or strange commands.. the end user doesn't want to have the "full control", or working on a server..
with linux you can, you can with windows too.. but linux is free.. free as in freedom!
@galzigler and when is it planned to teach students in schools?? isn't school existing to learn "something"?
Linux is not suitable only for programmers.. for example ubuntu is soooo much more "easy" than windows. You don't have to go on the internet to look for a program, just type it in the search box.. i don't think there's a windows tool as easy as this (never mentioned the console).

students should have a complete view of all.

sure, but who will pay that?

oh, it's simple.. school's administration..
and if they don't have enough money it should be simpler and cheaper to teach only linux.. so the student can learn a REAL operating system..

we're always at the same point.. a pc to work needs an operating system. What should be the best operating system between windows, linux and mac?

linux

Excelente que tal utilizar el poder combinado de los ordenadores como una supercomputadora corriendo EyeOS?
