  • Incredible..I always find it interesting that ppl comment how bad the video is that they're watching. I wonder if half of the negative commentators could do a fraction of what I've just seen..hmm probably not

  • wow people think this won't make them strong? yet curling lots of weight will??? no matter what workouts you do your muscles will rebuild themselves according to that workout, so essentially if you want to be in the best possible shape don't limit yourself to just crossfit, or just p90x or just anything, try something for 1 year and another thing for the next...cause no matter what workout you are doing there are a shit load of muscles not being worked.

  • At the 2:50 mark the video says he is sloppily lowering the weight, but it's ok because he is in great shape. What about the thousands of newbies in poorly run boxes? Are they safe? Are they going to get their SLAP tear here or in a few months of performing this stuff everyday.

  • CrossFit is way better then body building just because of the functional movements CrossFit'ers train....body builders may move a lot of weight in one lift but by the end of the workout a CrossFit'er will have moved more weight.

  • It depends what you want. Looks or function. I think every workout has its place, it depends what you are trying to achieve. And for the other people talking about being lean from workouts, that is nutrition people not workouts.

  • You will get leaner, but you'll never get stronger. Gaining 10lbs on a 1RM is not a gain by the way... Muscular endurance will improve, yes. Muscular strength, barely if any. Try it people, you'll see.

    The US Marine Corps, the LAPD, and nearly a hundred Law Enforcement and Fire Departments in the country currently operate according to the CrossFit methodologies, but I'm sure its because they don't want their guys to get any stronger.

  • I am a Marine. We don't do crossfit. Only a small few do.

    All you crossfitters think your methods are the be all end all and that is not true.

    P.S. I've yet to come in contact with a crossfitter stronger than me.

  • Not at all, I was merely responding to a comment saying that the Marines use crossfit, The statement sounded like all Marines use the CF method, which is highly untrue. I was simply debunking the statement. Like I have said before, CF is geared towards muscular endurance and not strength. If you are strength training CF is not ideal.

  • Crossfit definitely has it's place, especially for groups such as the Marines, the police force, fire fighters, etc. But as sanoe2lake is saying, it's primary focus is not strength. Crossfit combines functional movements for muscular endurance, cardio, and a bit of strength. I do think it's possible to gain strength using crossfit, but it's not the most effective way. However, the most effective way to gain strength limits your gains in cardio and muscular endurance. Apples and Oranges.

  • Well said, I'm glad 1 person understands what I'm saying. You're right you can gain strength from CF, but the gains will be slower, there would be more gains towards muscular endurance.

  • For those who don't believe in Crossfit, try this workout. You won't believe how sore your delt will be. I now use Crossfit along with bodybuilding and powerlifting.

  • I have a question: Is this super-high rep scheme that is performed with sloppy and choppy movements (i.e. using body weight and momentum to pick up the weight and not his delt muscles) actually going to build strength?

    I could see this guy actually being weaker in a year from now because of this type of "training."

  • Your question isnt about building strength, its about building his delts. Crossfit is about functionality, not looking good in a mirror. In real life situations you dont use just delts, you use your whole body. So for the functionality of sport, or combat he will be a lot stronger. As far as building bigger delts to flex, who cares if it will work

  • lol am guessing you have only ever studied bodybuilding. Expand your training knowledge and learn more other training methodologies.

    take power lifters they dont have half the muscle body builders have but are far stronger than them.

  • actually, elite HW powerlifters often have equal to if not greater lean body mass than elite bodybuilders, its just occasionally covered with fat.

    oh, their lean body mass tends to lift more than their equal-weight (yet with less fat, thus more muscle) body building counterparts.

  • @jdf1972 Lol why? Do you not know the difference between isolation and functional training? The delts are still being trained, but instead of being taught to work on their own, they are together with other muscles. This is the reason bb'ers are strong as fuck but then look 'unco' when playing sports or other such activities. In other word u get good at what u train.

  • @jdf1972 This kind of work out is for stamina and is usually used in crossfit work outs which require a large amount of stamina with a light to medium work load. These work outs are not ment to make you HUGE but build strength and stamina. However yes, If you simply did Military press you would be stronger but you could not compete in events that require stamina like those who persue crossfit as an alternate form of work out.

  • because this is mostly a shoulder/trap exercise ... IMO its definatly overload on your shoulders for no reason. I rather do powercleans or olly lifts!

  • im a bad speller so bare with me , why do we have to lift weights when no other animale has to ? Ya all animales have differnt gentics and bodys but still none of them touch weights . Look at monkeys and gorillas they are some what related to humans and they are three times are strength . Point is that I think using your own body weight makes you stronger and all around . Chin ups and push ups hand stand push ups are what make you strong in my opion.

  • It is no different than the vikings competing over a thousand years ago about lifting the most heavy rock. I don't have the numbers, but I am sure of that most top athletes in this world also find lifting as a valuable part of their training, no matter what sport they practice.

  • ya its all valuable i just think lefting things like rocks or your own body weight is more natural . Even know its all un natural in some way , I just think you get more for your money without weights. Weights seem to build more ego than real functional mucels. Bad speller.

  • I have to agree, at least partially.., lifting weights does help and can build pure strength - muscle power and size. but for better overall fitness, and overall body functionality, working as natural and weight-free as possible will be much more beneficial, when enough hard work is put into it, and will build a stronger, fitter, more powerful and healthy body, at least in the long run.

The point is that my opion is that using your own bady weight is better on your joints one and two builds better working mucels.   • I'm flattered that you took the time to watch my video. However, you didn't really answer the question I posed: if everything is "unnatural" (e.g. cars, computers, hell even silverware), then how is calling something "unnatural" a good case against it?

    After all, moving your own body effectively and under control is an important practical application of fitness, but so is moving a heavy external object.

    What really are "unnatural" are things like leg press machines or bicep curl machines.

  • If that was ture than why do you see people with joint problems from other excercises like the regular squat. Bench puts an unatural strain on the shoulder capsul when being brought down all the way down to your chest. Your body inst ment to squat 225 pounds for 10 reps three sets. Thats why people have to take shit like extra protain shakes to keep reparing riped mucel mass. All that protain takes calciume from bones and is an over load on the kidneys. Japan has the least amuont of frachures.

  • Your posts are making less and less sense as they progress. Why are you bringing up nutrition and osteoporosis? By the way, you've already shown in another post that you are in fact capable of using correct spelling and syntax, so why are you pretending that it's so hard?

  • How em i not makeing any sense , nutrition has a lot to do with mucel and body repair. Its all still on the subject , it goes with working out . What is a more natural better source of fuel to use when working out.

  • Well the Zone diet prescribes calories in "blocks", which are designed to be balanced portions. One Zone block contains 7 grams of protein, 9 grams of carbohydrates, and 1.5 grams of fat (unless the protein source is fat-free, like egg whites, in which case the fat blocks are doubled).

    So 40% of calories are from carbohydrates, and 30% each are from protein and fat. Works pretty well for me, and obviously works well for the guy in the video.

  • Diets in the long run dont work you just need to excercise and eat right everyday except for one day out of the week where you cheat. People go on thesese fast fix lose weight that gain it back again diets. The best diet is not over eating for your active and calorie balance. Everyone needs differnt needs based on those two factors.

    While it is obviously possible to consume too much protein, I should mention that the athlete in this video (Brandon) is an experienced CrossFitter, and probably follows the Zone diet, meaning he eats balanced meals and does not overdose on protein shakes.
