I could take apart every sentence that he says . . . 'most of the axe handles you see these days are chunkier and bigger; that's because it's easier for manufacturers to make. It's cheating.' Really? Really? Idiot. It wouldn't be so bad if he would just admit that he designs silly axe handles.
I agree with the top post. This is a hipster axe. If i want a good axe, i will go to Council Tool and buy one. I'm not going to pay 250 dollars for the same axe with a longer thinner handle. This Commercial is awful
for what ever reason there seems to be this cultish like hatred for BMC lol. my guess is they are brainwashed ray mears followers. who i think is an amazing individual unlike the zombies that bound themselves to his likeing of the Wetterlings axe. its fuckin pathetic real realy. they are both great axes get over it you trinket worshipers. i own many axes you get what you pay for with this axe thats a promise. but dont take my word for it get out there and use one
I did some reading on these axes and the heads are imported from New Zealand. Yea they sand the handles a little in the states maybe and slosh some paint on them. "working with my hands" lol
Hipster or not, I can appreciate the passion behind it. He enjoys what he does; isn't that the goal of anybody?
Having never used one, I can't comment on the product itself, but it *looks* gorgeous.
Interesting use of the 5160 monosteel head - usually they have a lower carbon (softer) in the back where it mounts to the handle (so it isn't too brittle) and a higher carbon (harder) tip for cutting. I knew they used alloys like that for swords and things, but I'm surprised it isn't too soft.
Well made video. Certainly more tactful than Cold Steel's "in your face" marketing (I own many CS knives). Axes are a traditional tool that deserves more attention than the $30 bin at Walmart. A bit expensive, but I'm guessing overhead costs from NYC must be pretty damn high. Also, the cost of materials aren't cheap (all that 5160 steel, great hickory wood and grain, labor in fit & finish).
This is an all-time high-water mark for Hipster Bullshit. This is a $45 Council Tool axe with the head polished and some paint on the handle for $250. The grind looks horrible, and BTW, if you are trying to convince people that your product is "authentic", don't say that it is "like a Ginsu Knife" (1:30). "Ginsu Knife" is a name that was invented by a guy named Arthur Schiff in the 70's to sell generic kitchen knives on infomercials. Look it up, d-bags.
@camick99 It is a $165 council tool Velvicut American Felling axe. If you get the "plain version" it's actually cheaper on the BMC site. The Ginsu comment was an admittedly bad attempt on the speakers part at humor. He almost laughed at it himself.

I do not see any $200 worth of craftsmanship, I think the Canooks will go under when the money runs out.

Most enjoyable. Cheap and cheerful is all very well, but you pay for quality. What is wrong with some people.
