@laurencosby I totally understand what you're staying, it's a feeling that I often get rather it be from this song, or seeing old stuff. A lot of it is about my Dad, It's a feeling of my adolescence, it is a very weird feeling and it's sometimes not a good feeling. It sorta makes me feel sad, but then at the same time I wish I could go back and try to fathom why it is I feel that feeling. I've tried to understand it a lot, and re-chapture it. No avail.
@klkool1 I totally see what you're saying. That happens with me and a lot of Bright Eyes songs. Sadly, often the feeling is one from my last relationship. It makes me think of the bad parts...which describes about 10 months of it.
You said it much better than I did though, haha.
And I think I figured out what I was thinking of. I think it was a Nick or Cartoon Network commercial in the late 90s that had stop motion animation in it.
@The1armscissor No, I was too young in the 90s to be allowed to listen to The Butthole Surfers, haha. I think it was just one of those songs made for commercials that play for a few seconds.
I really don't know why I even remember it, considering that I had to be below the age of 7 at the time I heard it. Hmm, it's weird: the things we remember.
i think this song is about soul snatching and becoming different, you don't recognize what you see in the mirror and you voice sounds different too. stuff I've been through, and its a horrible way to live the rest of you life.
@johnmorrisonsband Yup... according to Conor in his live gig at Zelt Ulm, Germany, in 2005, the song is about a person who used to be loving and kind and then suddenly changed completely and started to fall in love with themselves more than anyone else and transformed, in his words, into "an awful person"...
...In Italiano a fine di canzone?? I hear her saying something about a smile, the color yellow, something about a song. That is Italian a woman is speaking at the very end? Right? I thought it was Spanish way back the first time I listened to it.......
Neely O'Hara is a fictional character in the Jacqueline Susann penned novel and movie "Valley of the Dolls", a former Vaudeville-kid, who becomes a broadway-star and drug-addict. The character is said to be based on Judy Garland.
Not sure if that was supposed to be an insult or a compliment. I think you should probably figure out what you meant before I block you from watching my video's.
Neely O'hara was a drug addict in valley of the dolls (novel) "swallow your sleep" refers to pills blah blah blah

The beginning reminds me of some song I have heard somewhere a few times (possibly on TV as a kid), and it made me feel happy. Weird.

Conor Oberst is, and will always be, my favorite artist. Seeing him live was one of the most amazing experiences that I have ever had.

Yeah, I think everyone that listens intently to the song gets some sort of feeling like that.

@QueenOfTheAubergines Same, I can't describe the feeling of it. It's a very strange yet beautiful song. Probably one of Oberst's best.
