This is about the most dangerous thing I've seen any one do this a table saw, If that board had caught/twisted and kicked-back you would have lost fingers.
Clamping the board to the table is the only safe way to do this, or better as you are using the jig saw anyway drill a hold to create a pocket to start the blade in.
@bluebirdzenith Just to satisfy my curiousiity how much experience do you have in the shop? How man years have you been working with tools like tablesaws etc? Dropcuts are perfectly safe and builders use them all the time. You can't clamp anything to a tablesaw because the wood has to move through the blade (unless the dropcut is smaller than the overall length of exposed saw blade).
If the piece had twisted or been kicked back by the blade my fingers would have been fine. You should try it :)
