Iceland isn't poor as hell. Fact is a few years back they were on the top pf the Humand Development Index and they always were in the top 5 out of the average-standard-of-life rankings the last 10 years. Only recently with their bank crisis have things gone worse but they are still way better off than most other countries in Europe, and the world for that matter.

I agree that bad politicians and politics can ruin a country's development and their overall standard.
