geez... a crossbody block? And he wonders why he wasn't booked? lol When I think back to when these were finishers...the abdominal stretch actually meant something...the small package often won matches...now I am trying to think of something else...what changed it? Who was the guy that came up with the "devastating" finisher that basically raised the bar where none of these would be good enough any more?
@invasionsend They had big finishers back then. The first big one was probally the piledriver, then the superplex, the ddt and the top rope clothesline. And the best submissions from this day we're the backbreaker and the figure four.
@1981CrueHead As I think back to the Santana era I think Muraco had the most devestating with the Hawaiian Hammer. Crippler Stevens and later Orndorff had the Piledrivers (the latter being still the most brutal) but after that you had cross face chicken wings, Pedro with the crab, Putski with the Hammer, Studd and Ventura withe the back breaker. Snuka may be THE guy that really took it all to another level. No one was doing anything close to his aerial moves in the late 70's.
@invasionsend Your right about Snuka doing suicide dives in the 70's. I like realistic finishers like Snuka's splash. And very few wrestlers actually went on to use that move afterwards, it's effective and realistic. Man comes off the top rope and lands across your body, awesome. And Paul Orndorff was a sicko with his piledriver. Paul is bi polar and he would try and hurt a guy. I'd never wanna get in the ring with an upset Paul Orndorff.
The Savoldi's or Fornini's, that's their real name, are from my home town. Really nice people. Angelo and his sone joe were pretty well known wrestlers and mario and another brother were referees. They also worked in the WWF. And Tito lives in a town a few towns over from me. As for Dennis Stamp, he was actually a decent wrestler and deserves to be remembered as more than just the "I'm not booked" guy.

Merced/Tito went on to be a big star in the WWF.
The Referee Mario Savoldi ran his own ICW promotion in the Northeast for several years.
The interviewer was Nick Roberts the father of Babydoll.

This is very rare footage from the Funk's old Amarillo territory when BJ Mulligan & Dick Murdoch were running it.

I gave Tito a dvd of this match. It's probably the earliest of him on video. titosantana . net
