Hi Andy could you tell me if you still live in castlemilk because i haven't been there in such a long time, is castlemilk high school still there, i didn't know that mitchiehill flats were gone. Also loved the vido footage of the old and new castlemilk, didnt even recognise the old place when i seen the new castlemilk
I spent every friday Nite in thelate 60's and early 70's collecting football pools money from a lot of the locals in these flats. many great memories. now livin in Autralia
Is it just me or does any of this resemble the supposed demolition of the Twin Towers in the US by 2 planes which made them drop identically - a physical impossibility unless controlled explosives are used as shown here ?
excellent video Andy - I see its just been posted since JAN 03! Why did you wait so long? I thought I was the only one to have posted the demolition onto youtube. Have you seen it, its called mitchellhill blow-up - have a look and tell me what you think
Hiya James, never thought of placing it on you-tube at first, too busy with stables and stuff. seen yours first & that gave me the idea. seen a few of your crazed up vid's.keep them coming.
have you see the short movies myself & Alex 'Clyne' Potts have made? We did a 20 minute one called 'quite time' a post-apocalyptic disaster movie & a silent comedy called 'The Metal Detectorist' around 2 mins +. Have a look and tell us what you think - you can find them here on youtube or on my own site: thebrilliants(dot)net See you later Andy & you too, keep em coming :o).
Great video, my grandson (8) insists in watching it every time he comes to visit me. l lived in Castlemilk from 1956 to 1962. Still miss the place. Great place to grow up.
I used to play in those flats by going up and down in the lifts. I went to school at Mitchell Hill Primary. The auld place has fair changed since I was last there as a boy in 1965. Remember all the various vans that would come around selling everything from tripe to bags of coal and running doon the street to catch up with fish and chip van! Could go a good fish supper and a big bottle of IRN BRU.
Me an my brother used to walk up from Croftfoot Roundabout. Muck about on the lifts, sometimnes jamming them between floors and climbing out, or ringing somebody's bell just before the lift doors closed again. Up to the top for a smoke and spit big gobbers over the balcony of the Fire Escape (maybe even a wee pee) then wait to see where it eventually landed. (Amazing view too - especially because in these days it was possible to fall over).
Stopped after one night we had to do a runner from a massive local gang, and oor pal Archie shat himself during the chase along Dougrie Road. Toi Ya Bass?
LOVE it! I knew people that lived up the Mitchellhill flats. They are missed from the landscape...for so long you could spot Castlemilk in the distance by those flats. Brilliant filming too, cheers!
its just like the world trade center on September 11 2001. a controlled demolition.

Well done on having the camera steady. Miles better than the old wobbly hand-held! I take it you were away from the cheering crowd?

Yeah, and the buildings drop exactly when the charges go off. At least our government gave the occupants notice to get out first.
WillMathieson 4 years ago
I was there myself, Andy. I probably know you. Do you ever visit the Oasis or Bennigans (now known as the Castle Arms) ? Queen owns it.
